Now that the PS3 and Wii are on the market, the battle can officially begin. But as far as Bill Gates is concerned, he's not all that interested in this year's holiday contest; it's 2007 that will tell the tale of the tape.
"You know, Sony can make 80,000 bricks, and people would buy them," Gates said. "So the real competition — you're going to see the impact of our innovation and all the momentum we have in Christmas 2007. This Christmas, the story is: Xbox 360 is going to sell super-well, and they'll sell the rounding error amounts they can make."
Apparently, there are enough mindless devoted Sony followers out there to buy 80,000 bricks, but if that's the case, wouldn't this mean that Microsoft is fighting a losing battle…? No, probably not, because that's not really the case. In fact, we're relatively certain there are plenty of mindless Microsoft followers (especially here in the U.S.) that would buy MS-branded bricks.
Next holiday season will a massive three-way clash, as there is the possibility of seeing three system-sellers for Christmas 2007- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PS3, Halo 3 for the Xbox 360, and the new Smash Bros. for the Wii. Looks like it'll be a lot of fun, from both a business and gamer perspective.
