Activision Finally Officially Confirms Guitar Hero: Van Halen

This is one of those times where everyone knew it was coming; some sources even called it a written-in-stone fact, even though the publisher had never "officially" confirmed its existence.

Well, no more. Activision has confirmed to Joystiq that Guitar Hero: Van Halen is indeed in the works, and it's scheduled to launch some time during the second half of 2009. They wouldn't issue any further information, but we know the game will feature the legendary band's greatest hits and some other guest bands will include The Offspring, Weezer, Queen, and others. Furthermore, Activision's Senior Vice President of Global Brand Management clarified that "this is definitely Van Halen, not Van Hagar," which means that David Lee Roth and not his replacement, Sammy Hagar, will be in the spotlight. The former is back with the band, anyway, and many die-hard fans will say without reservation that Van Halen was at its best when one of rock's most colorful front men was present. We're not taking anything away from Hagar – they had some great songs with him, too – but if you're releasing a game that's a tribute to this band's legacy, you really have to put David Lee Roth in the lead.

So yeah, it appears that both Guitar Hero and Rock Band will continue to pump out the band-focused spin-offs. See what happens when a genre blows up worldwide?

really? Im not laughing at all. I understand that different people have different tastes. Just curious, how old are you? That might also be a factor for you not knowing who Van Halen is. In any case, if you like hard rock, you'll love Van Halen.

So Guitar Hero could be first video game to have millions of sequels right.I figure every commercial band in the world (past and present)is going to have their own guitar hero game.So we'll probably see a end to Mario before before we see Guitar Hero end.

Yes, I saw. I REALLY don't care. This type of idiocy is the reason why gaming journalism (or whatever is posing as "journalism") will never be taken seriously.

It's easy to take someone's article, like Ben's, and trash it just to build yourself up. The more mature person is the one who is fine with who they are, and not trying to one up other people (or journalists). Clearly Ben knows who he is and where he stands, and I'm glad he doesn't care what anyone else thinks.

Couldn't they just use DLC instead of releasing a new game every week?

Eddie Van Halen is one of the greatest guitarists of all time, can even be argued as the best! So they should definitely have a GUITAR HERO game and pretty sure this is not milking it! Kids these days!!!

they will never sell out and that is a good thing…besides even in the remote possibility of a LZ game, the rights would go to ROCK BAND cause thats a better game all around…I mean, look at who won the Beatles rights…

OH…thats reminded me…i wanna see a game based on THE WHO

Van Halen? Thats just as bad as aerosmith. The right thing to do would be to make a Guitar Hero: Dethklok, it would be a hit! But Dr Rockso has to be in it!

If they really wanted to make a hard guitar hero game, they need to go for Guitar Hero: Yngwie Malmsteen. No one would ever get past the first song lol.

That sounds like fun. Here's my $60.

p.s. This is not a shot at Yngwie.

@firehahahaha,
Nice catch on YM,
love his guitarwork on "Blue"

Fender's even has a model of their Stratocaster's named after him too…….

The Yngwie Malmsteen Stratocaster is a replica of the guitar used by Swedish heavy metal guitarist Yngwie J. Malmsteen, made by Fender.

It has two DiMarzio YJM single-coil pickups (neck/middle) paired with a DiMarzio HS-3 Stack humbucker (bridge), a scalloped fingerboard with 21 Dunlop 6000 super-sized frets, a late-'60s large headstock and a brass nut.

This Fender Artist signature guitar also features a 3-ply white/black/white pickguard, a deeper scalloped fingerboard, Bullet truss rod nut and machine screw neck mounting inserts.

The early Malmsteen Strats (produced before the change to the actual "large headstock" models in 1998) featured an American 2-point synchronized tremolo, small headstock with "spaghetti"-style decal, Gotoh/Kluson tuners and a hardened-steel EasyGlider string tree, a Fender "DeltaTone" single-coil pickup in the middle position and a TBX tone control for the middle/bridge pickups.

I wish they would make a Guitar Hero:AC/DC.I would really want to buy that. They might make it because on the last few GHs there were no AC/DC songs at least i don't think.
