Capcom Amps Up PSN Support

Capcom has been an excellent supporter of the PlayStation Network for quite some time, but you ain't seen nothin' yet.

As Joystiq reports, Capcom plans to inundate the PSN with "between 20 and 40" PS1 classics and PSP titles, and gamers will get to vote on the games that Capcom transforms into downloadable content. As most all of you know, Capcom almost always listens to its fans so it's no surprise that consumers will have a say in these plans. Said Capcom's Chris Kramer:

"We'll definitely be looking at a lot of titles that have things like Street Fighter and Resident Evil in the title. We're thinking about putting together a long list of the titles we're looking at, and then releasing it on Capcom Unity and having people vote on them. Ultimately we're looking at bringing between 20 and 40 titles to the PSN over the next several months."

That's a lot of games to drop in just a few months time! But the more stuff we get on the PSN, the happier we are; there have been more than a few wonderful downloadable experiences in the past few years. There's still talk about physical media eventually dying out in the wake of increasing digital media, but those of us who have invested a lot of time and money in developing a nice collection don't think too highly of the idea. Even so, we'd never refuse more PS1 classics and handheld titles for the PSN!

Right

I'll believe it when I see it.
They're just gonna re-release SFAlpha2/3.

Great games, released 200 times already though.

Are these PSone ports any good. Are the load times vanquished. I've been thinking about CSOTN, but does it play better than before?

I'm not ready sure since Sotn loads quickly and Rayman there really isn't a difference so it really doesn't matter

"Capcom has been an excellent supporter of the PlayStation Network for quite some time"

Bionic Commando demo exclusive for XBL
RE5 demo, exclusive for 1 1/2 week for XBL

And everything else is multiplat… except for the PSOne titles…

IMO CAPCOM is not that excellent supporter.

And actually I would love to see RE and Dino Crisis on the PSN

Comment on the Digital Media subject:

Classic games (i.e.: PS1, possibly PS2) are an acceptable option due to smaller file sizes. Having to download and install new release titles which reach 10s of GBs in size is very time consuming.

For portable gaming, digital copies are great as it is less for me to carry around. I don't want to have to lug around a backpack just so I have my PSP game collection with me. This is what probably helped MP3 players to became so popular and accepted. Who wants to carry around 100s of CDs when they can store all of their favorite songs in a key sized device?

When I'm at home I want my discs, cases, and hard copy manuals.

Digital Distribution for the portable gaming market makes sense, not home consoles.
