Vietnam, Cuba Are Possible Settings For Call Of Duty 7

We think it's kinda cool that Treyarch and Infinity Ward keep trading off on producing entries in the Call of Duty franchise; it's so kindergarten-friendly…they just take turns!

Well, as most of you know, Treyarch gave us what may have been the best World War II shooter ever with last year's Call of Duty: World at War , and towards the end of 2009, Infinity Ward will deliver a guaranteed winner in Modern Warfare 2 . However, as IW has abandoned the WWII theme, it may now be Treyarch's turn to abandon the familiar atmosphere as well. They're working on what we can only call "Call of Duty 7" right now and according to a so-called reliable source, That VideoGame Blog has reported that CoD7 may be set in either Vietnam or Cuba (or both). This is based on some music supposedly scheduled for the game, and this includes Vietnam War era tracks, along with Cuban, African and Soviet Union music. Treyarch producer Noah Heller adds more legitimacy to the rumor as he said-

"I’m sure game companies will be making World War II games for years to come and World War II is a very classic war. But we’re happy that we put the war to bed."

While some of the die-hard followers of this series may be disappointed to learn that both Treyarch and Infinity Ward will no longer deal with the world's Greatest War, one does have to admit that the WWII shooter has been done a lot. Like, a lot . So maybe it is indeed a good idea to try something new, and we could really use a truly fantastic Vietnam-based FPS. Guess we'll have to wait for the official details from Treyarch…

Nice, although I prefer the MW setting. I will probably pick this one up anyway.
Won't it technically be Call of Duty 6 though? Cause the next one is just MW2 not COD:MW2..

P.S. the title says Vietnan. I didn't know that was a country? lol.

I don't really enjoy the WW2 setting for fps games. Modern Warfare was sweet and the second should be too. I think Vietnam would actually be really neat too.

So does that mean the obligatory number of decades have passed so a Vietnam war game won't offend anyone?

Anyway it's good to see WWII taking a rest.

The Vietnam setting was used before in the Shellshock: Nam '67 game a few years ago. It was interesting but didn't live up to the hype it received. I'd personally like to see a Call of Duty Civil War or Revolutionary War myself.

Haha, I agree that a Revolutionary War or Civil War would be interesting to see… But it would be hard to make it… Fun.. I mean who wants to sit through 1 minute load times for each shot?

Wait…..they never even really made an official 5……….or 6……WTF are you doing to our brains? Can't wait to see Metal Gear 34 and Halo 25. Seriously, is anyone happy with what they have NOW? Your title says Vietnan. Ok Ben, I'm done bitching 🙂

Well, I'm going to get a lots of "downs" for this comment but…
I find these real war games to be a bit offensive.
I don't know, I just think turning something that was so terrible into a game is rather disgusting.

I should add that I'm really not the type of person to get all offended by everything all the time. In fact, people who do really annoy me. I just find these types of games to be so.

Edit:
Btw, Vietnam is a beautiful country with fabulous food – I hope see it for myself someday. [:

Alot of war movies have been made….are they offensive also? War movies have been made for entertainment and showing the good and bad side of war way before they were games. How are the games offensive?? I find them informative and sometimes like a history lesson. I'm looking forward to all of the coming CODs.

I understand your point CobraSalad but I have to agree with timster118. When war movies are made nobody blinks an eye, but when its made into a game people trip!

Ya, I don't love the war games, some are good, most are not. In the real world I think guns should have never been invented and war never helps anyone. However games are games, they are just a release.

TO CS: Ya, It's a sweet country, I spent a month or so there last year. I plan on going back someday, one of the coolest places I've been.

To me games like GTA and Saints Row are more offensive then war games, GTA and saints row teaches you to kill random innocent people just because you can(even though its just a game)and you can you be part of a gang, my cousin was killed by gang members 4 years ago and my older brothers friend was killed in Iraq, at least he died for his country and not slain in the street. I think its wrong how they make games like GTA and saints row. If you want to complain about something being offensive complain about that.

I respect your view Cobra and i get what you're saying but i disagree. The game itself is just a, hopefully, accurate portrayal of what happened there with the best visuals we've had to date. They just made it to make money and to give people a view of Vietnam in a new accurate light, i hope.
Now, there are alot of ignorant kids and even young adults who play these games just Kill Kill Kill Kill, running around spraying down everything, anything and spewing all kinds of derilict ****talk. That does a dis-service to what a war FPS is really about.

Its about competition in a combat/man/woman versus man/woman. Its about the art of war when you get really good at these games, team work, strategy, tactical fighting and movement, spotting/tracking.

Thats what these games all about, there's nothing wrong with making some FPS games with historical content. COD4 was very tastefully done and no disrespect to the brave men and women fighting from the international community in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Sorry Timster and Madkat, I stand by what I said about making these sorts of games. I think there is something very different about playing a game and going around shooting everything, and watching a movie about it. Because, from a movie you get a (not entirely) accurate account of what happened, you're learning, while enjoying something that's (hopefully) well acted. It's like theater history. I think you have to be a different type of person to want to play it out yourself, and run around shooting people. To actually have to play it out yourself, and re-create the violence yourself… well, you're probably just not that kind of person I would really want to know in the first place (and same with you probably not connecting with me.)

Best yet? Just read a book.

I actually agree with this completely. Which is why I never play these games. They disturb me.

I hate to say it but you are in the minority on this particular subject, especially on a gaming site.

And right now I'm reading Resistance: The Gathering Storm by William Deitz.

Also CobraSalad, they made books about all the wars, both fictional and non-fiction. I still fail to see how this is offensive (war scenarios) in any media form.

You know Cobra, i respected you until you said that piece of trash about not wanting to know us in the real world just cause we a play a war shooter but now i take it all back.

We all respected your opinion and respectfully disagreed, what do you do in return ? You proceed to judge us/them as human beings over a product we like. I could tell you just where you could shove it, but i imagine, you know just where to take it.

So be it kid, many of us adults have no interest in judgmental snot.

For the record, im a Christian god fearing man, and i speak to him everyday but you don't see me begrudging people over things that don't even qualify as sins. I bet you're all for gay marriage though right lol.

I think if they go with the Vietnam war it could be a pretty intense game. But they must make it historically accurate and stick to the true "tone" Vietnam had…. Gritty Gorilla Warfare!

Dunno how many people will remember that they actually lost that War as well….

Anyway….

CobraSalad: You said you find these war games a little offensive because someone made a game out of an actual war, so it's become entertainment. In a way I agree with you. Take the Six Days… Game that got canceled. It was made so close to the actual war that everyone has kicked up a storm against it's release But ten years from now they will probably have it as a GOTY contender.

I'm not saying it is always a good thing but like I said if they keep it historically accurate. And true to what happened it can serve as a piece of history. People can actually learn from plying a game like that.

Anyway before I carry on too long… I think there are a lot of things that people should find a bit more offensive than games about wars…And that is actual war…

But I do understand where you're coming from…

Meh… im growing a bit tired of CoD already for some reason… i'll likely pick up MW2, but the fact that a new CoD will come every year kinda takes away from a lot of the excitement of having to wait for the next… the wait is a bit too short for me. (unless i just get one every other year)

This'll be good to get away from WWII in my opinion, done too many times. I think Vietnam would be a good setting to try and defend against the guerilla tactics they used with all the secret tunnels and everything, but I'm not so sure about Cuba as it didn't last very long. I mean USA send over exiled Cuban refugees to find themselves heavily outnumbered seems like a pretty quick level :p.

@CobraSalad: I can completely see where you're coming from. My Grandad fought in the War, as I'm sure many others did, and I always have to be careful of what I say when I'm talking about my games when I'm around him, but as someone else said above, if they are done to some degree of historical accuracy, they could be educational aswell.

I think a classic Call of Duty would be set in the Cold War! XD Can you imagine the levels? Obejective: Send threatening letter to USSR! Hahahaha
