Well, there's good news and bad news: the bad news is that approximately 40% of you believe that Square-Enix has fallen a long ways from their former state of glory, and may or may not claw their way back.
The good news is, of course, the other side of the poll results: 60% believe that Square-Enix is either still the reigning RPG king, or if they've been knocked off the pinnacle, the new Final Fantasy games will allow them to re-assume their lofty position. The majority of those polled no longer see the veteran RPG publisher as operating at the top of their game (pun intended), but if we remain patient, the likes of Final Fantasy XIII will heal most accumulated wounds. These are interesting results, surely, because it usually seems as if the naysayers are the more vocal group on the Internet; perhaps all you who still view S-E in a positive light should speak up more often! For our part, we agree with the majority of the poll-takers, and if FFXIII doesn't rock our socks, we'll eat 'em. It's just too bad that their IPs lack the quality of the FF franchise; in the PlayStation generation, Squaresoft could almost do no wrong. Vagrant Story , Chrono Cross , Parasite Eve , Legend of Mana , Front Mission 3 , etc. It was just amazing.
For the next poll, we take a look at the summer and ask which of the many scheduled titles is tops on your "most anticipated list." Is it inFamous ? Red Faction: Guerilla ? Madden NFL 10 ? Batman: Arkham Asylum ? It may be a definite challenge to pick just one, but easy polls are boring. If you had to pick, which of these promising titles would you select this summer?
Squaresoft 4 life..
ATLUS for life!
Squaresoft died already though.
i still call them SquareSoft too. Enix is ok, thet brought us Dragon Quest, and Square made it better.
The last great RPG from the company was DQ8 and Level 5 developed that.
i'm with you dq8 awesomest last se rpg on the ps2 and from the creator of upcoming white knight chronicles level 5
Level 5 for life!
-Arvis
WKC is gunna own life lol but so will FFv13.
Guess That's fair! If they release those FF games soon they could once again become kings of rpg's.Who where the SE fanboys who voted for the "They are still kings", really..they haven't release a single game for the ps3 and they are still kings!.
I know right? They're either sheep or Microsoft nuthuggers
The problem is there is still PLENTY of time for SE to fark things up for themselves because nobody in the West is gonna see an FF game for a very long time. They may well stab PS3 owners in the gut at E3 and TGS yet
Infamous.. It wasn't a difficult choice
Yeah, they are pretty sketchy at the moment. You never know what's gonna' happen.
But seriously who actually voted for 'They're still the RPG kings"?????????????????????????
They've only published like 1-2 games for PS3 and properly developed neither.
=D
They've sunk to the bottom in my opinion. ATLUS is taking over. Along with Level5.
And SEGA's a nice surprised(they've always been good though).
Summer release? Easy….Infamous
Naysayers seem to be the more vocal group on every subject on the internet. I have no opinion on this particular subject though as RPG's aren't really my thing.
P.S. Look at inFamous dominating the polls! It got my vote, but I thought Arkham Asylum would be a strong contender.
Squaresoft was the King of RPGs. The quality really degraded when Enix took over. The only person I still trust to deliver a great game is Nomura (or at least games he was heavily involved in).
I remember when I would see a game with Squares name on it and It would be a instant classic. Now I find it rare when I am excited for a game by them. Hopefully FFXII will be great!
"Hopefully FFXII will be great!"
I thought FFXII turned out pretty good 🙂
Meant to say FFXIII, and I personally disliked FFXII.
XII would have been decent if they hadn't given us that abomination they refer to as a battle system.
I don't see any BIG evidence SE is siding with MS though.
If that's the case, why would they release FFXIII as PS3 exclusive in Japan.
But we'll see, if the 360 version of FFXIII have exclusive DLC or the quality is equally good with the PS3 version(dude, there's no way 9GB can win over 25GB) then it's confirmed SE is siding with MS.
single 4.5GB vs 25GB
double 9GB vs 50GB
Actually kreate, it's 7gb for a dvd (maximum). Because of the way microsoft handles the dvd format, the remaining 1gb is for security.
Xbox 360 games can only take up 7gb per disk.
thanks for the info! didnt know that.
im kind of surprised how they can fit all that info on that small space.
Andysw
What security? Is'nt just about every 360 ripped and torrent it lol?
There's like 4 people who own a 360 in Japan.
360 ownership in Japan is actually about a million – not 4.
They don't have sarcasm where you live?
They do. Apologies for a humorless moment. I knew you were being sarcastic, but I figured if I got in with a reply like I did, it would prevent Xbot nation from jumping on your post.
i kinda have to wonder if it was worth excluding ps3 gamers from all of their previous games. wouldnt SE made more money by multi releasing all their games? or did microsoft pay them THAT well so ps3 gamers like me had to buy another 360 to play star ocean?
SE are still on top form FFVII:CC proved this. I played the Japanese version of Dissida and it was fantastic…. i just didnt understand what was happening. We also have Parasite Eve III on its way which i'm very hyped about, i loved the 2nd one. and then of course theres the FFXIII project on its way, which is looking phenominal, by the end of next year you'll see SE has been up to alot and i think they shall earn you spoil brats praise.
Indeed.
but is it going to be on the ps3?
why is everyone assuming square enix is still with playstation?
up to now, i see that square enix has no desire of siding with the playstation.
u never know what is going to happen until it actually happens.
microsoft can easily throw more money around and persuade square enix.
yea its a inconvenient theory, but if u are a gamer with both ps3 and xbox, than be excited all u want. but if u are a ps3 fan without a xbox. start emailing square enix and throw some hatemails cuz thats what i did to 2kgames to get bioshock to come to the ps3 which eventually did as well as the exclusive content.

Handhelds don't count.
Though I am pissed at Square-Enix for some of the things that they've done, I still have hope that they can reign once more as the king of RPGs.
What simply infuriates me is that they say they are pushing for multiplatform… that is fine with me. But when you push to release your games for multiple platforms, you don't release them exclusively for one home console!!!! Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery, and Star Ocean could have all been released for PS3 as well. What they did there is extremely shady and irks the hell out of me.
But then I play my FFXIII demo and all seems well. I think once FFXIII is released, more games will be released for the PlayStation 3. It happened this way with PS1 after FFVII, and PS2 after FFX (The Bouncer and Driving Emotion Type S don't count!).

I kinda liked the Bouncer 🙂
The Bouncer was GOOD. I will FIGHT anyone who says otherwise. 🙂
I like The Bouncer Too, A little short and easy to max the characters but the best modern Streets of Rage esk game ive played., before that was 'Tekken Force Mode' lol
The Bouncer was good! I always wished for a sequel… T_T
I played the Bouncer out of curiosity after seeing an ad of it around the Kingdom Heart's era.
And I must say I loved that game, for me the story was real deep at the time for some reason.
Yeah, the FFXIII demo really got me excited. I reeeaaally like the battle system. I'm especially surprised I managed to get through the whole hour long demo without knowing Japanese.
And the Bouncer was awesome for sure. A sequel would be great and kind of falls in line with a ZOE2 sequel for me for some reason.
Same question as a lot of the folks above. How can SquEnix be considered the current 'Kings' with respect to PS3, considering they haven't yet release a single game for PS3? Preposterous.
As far as the current generation PlayStation owner is concerned Square Enix are non-entities until they deliver on some of the promises they've made. That includes this implied promise made when calling their game line up multi-platform. The implication there is that games will appear on more than one platform. So perhaps they could pull their finger out of the place where the sun doesn't shine and announce/release Star Ocean and TLR on PS3. I couldn't give a rat's nether-regions for TLR, but Star Ocean has captured a little interest from me. But it's pointless as long as Square Enix operate as an effective Microsoft First Party studio with respect to High-Def gaming.
It's not a matter of being negative or a member of the Eye of Moron. [The Eye of Moron : The name I have given to the figurative, ever present, all seeing eye of stupidity and negativity that the Internet seems to foster. Think of something like the Eye of Sauron, except far stupider and more negative, and yet somehow as unstoppable and all-seeing. You get the idea.] It's more a matter of evaluating their behavior ans public statements and seeing where the reality fails to match their statements.
A good king says what he means, means what he says and his actions match his words. A bad king never means what he says, seldom says what he means and almost never does what he says. How does SquEnix stack up?
AMEN, Highlander!!!!!
Yeah screw squeenix, even if i do have a 360 i still dislike them
