Although we still say it's far too close to milking the ever-loving snot out of a popular franchise, we admit to being somewhat intrigued by this latest LEGO Rock Band update.
It may sound like an absurd concept – because it is – but as Destructoid reports, Xbox.com has revealed new details for the bizarre hybrid (that hasn't been officially confirmed, by the way). First up, the developers will use the LEGO theme to "build cooler vehicles and move to new venues." So…like, we're gonna build the tour bus? Then, we'll get an extra easy mode for the kiddies who really aren't old enough to rock out, and separate unique Challenges include "destroying a giant robot, summoning a storm, and demolishing a skyscraper." We're still not sure if we'll be able to take songs from this game and drop them into Rock Band 2 , and for that matter, we have no idea what tracks might be featured in LEGO Rock Band . But we imagine MTV Games will spill the entire can of beans at some point in the near future because at this point, we're already aware of the insanity. Just give the readers everything they desire and try to convince all of us why this would be worth our time and money. We choose to be optimistic – aren't we always? – by pondering the immense possibilities involved, and we'll just leave it at that for now.
We shouldn't say that crossover titles don't work. Just look at Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe ; that turned out quite nicely, didn't it? And let's not forget that most LEGO-based games in the past have been very good. Combine that with the excellent Rock Band flair, and maybe we'll get a clear-cut winner!
This has officially gone too far.
I will go ahead and put this in my "least anticipated" list.
I am sure if they really tried they could have come up with something more useless.
I dunno… I bet only kid songs will be in this game.
Set List:
I Love You – Barney
Spongebob – Spongebob Squarepants
Vamanos – Dora The Explorer
Etc.
If it had those songs it would destroy all competition..XD
Yeah it will become an instant hit.
I'd even buy it too.
Serious =D
So far, the confirmed songs are:
Blur: "Song 2"
Carl Douglas: "Kung Fu Fighting"
Europe: "The Final Countdown"
Good Charlotte: "Boys and Girls"
Pink: "So What"
spongebob square pants already has 3 songs on Rockband for purchase.
can someone give me a count of the amount of lego games there are already?
I'm sorry, but this is going to be awesome! "Destroying a giant robot, summoning a storm, and demolishing a skyscraper." That's got "win" written all over it. The couple of songs they've released for the set list were great. And, to top it all off, it's got a super-easy difficulty setting, so my little girl will be able to play without getting frustrated. Most of you won't be interested, but those of us with children are gonna be all over this.
Milking? I think not. I think taking a popular franchise and making a version that's kid accessible is brilliant. And if this one comes with 60-80 songs that can be exported for play in RB2, I'll call it a day one purchase.
its obviously shovelware, why are you guys and ign giving this game so much damn press?? lol.
where was all this attention for the hannah montana game?
btw ben, glad youre back. i missed your op eds.
Is it shovelware because it's a game for kids, or is it shovelware because it's a Rock Band game? I think you guys have missed the point.
@Troy Powers
It's nice you want to get it for your kid and probably play with her but it's still shovelware.I could go out today and buy Hannah Montana the game for my kids(If I had any)and they could enjoy it like crazy and maybe I would but it's still would be shovelware.
Johnny: Thanks. 🙂
It's only shovelware if instead of advancing on the previous games, it's just pumping out more of the same.
-Expanding the genre by bringing in younger gamers that may have been excluded from earlier iterations.
-Adding game modes that include missions and challenges (I don't remember blowing up buildings in the first two games).
Officially not shovelware.
If you're not into it, fine. But, get off your high horse, you evidently have a hard time seeing from up there. 😉
I'm not thrilled about this game, but from I've read from other sources, it should be the kids version of Rock Band. Although, imagine the peripherals… will they look like they're built out of Lego blocks?
Officially gone to far, this is getting a little out of hand. SO far lego has done
Starwars the complete saga
Starwars the orginal series
Indiana Jones
Batman
Rumours as of now:
Harry potter
Indiana Jones 2
I don't know just thinking they are getting really out of hand it was cute the first 2 times now they are just taking over. Waiting for Lego ghostbusters next.
@ Troy Powers…How can the game have a confirmed set list, or even a partly confirmed set list when the game itself isn't even confirmed yet??
ANYWAY, this would be the biggest waste of time ever. The LEGO idea should have stopped at Star Wars
It was officially confirmed but you right thought, it should have stopped at star wars.I guess a Lego Killzone wouldn't be too hard to picture.
Enough with the music games already! Just beating a dead dog with a Lego stick now!
Ridiculous!
Not gonna buy it, not gonna play it.
