Final Fantasy. Man, this franchise is so damn enormous, that even its demos manage to move dozens of thousands additional hardware units in a week. A demo! A few days ago, you may recall that we reported the PlayStation 3 sold about 16.5k systems in Japan for the week ending April 12th. That number was high enough to make the PS3 the best selling home console in Japan, beating out even the Nintendo Wii, which sold a paltry 13k systems.
Well, with the Blu-Ray release of Final Fantasy Advent Children, you may also recall that we reported 70,000, out of the 100,000 copies sold, were the ones bundled with the FFXIII demo. And how many of those 70k also bought a PS3 with their FFXIII demo? Close to 40,000! According to retail tracker Sinobi, they record sales of the PlayStation 3 for last week tallying to a total of 57k units! For a demo!
We're still curious to see Famitsu's and Media Create's retail results, as they cover a larger scope of Japan's retail world, which may possibly show us a number for PS3 sales that's higher than 57k. For that, we'll have to wait until tomorrow afternoon. Seriously…a demo! Imagine the colossal explosion when the actual game hits this December in Japan?
Related Game(s): Final Fantasy XIII
All great news! Thanks for reporting it Arnold! Love seeing the ps3 sell so well cuz of things like this. Can't wait until FFXIII launches, and damn I wish it was still an exclusive.
I can do without the exclusivity…what I can't do with is that it ain't in ma hands yet!!
Ya known, I've been avoiding a certian website because of its constant blatant anti-PS3/SONY users. I cannot let their anti-gaming antics disrupt my joy as a gamer. It's tempting to go back over there to see their reactions to such postitive PS3 news. But I'm taking the high road by continually taking the gamer's route and not a fanboy's act of retaliatory hate.

May I ask what website is anti PS3/Sony?
Not the website itself, but a strong number of its users and contributors. For the respect and safety of this site and its users, I would like to keep that confidential but would gladly inform you via private messaging.
I'll take your word for it but you know that ps3/Sony bashing occurs in most gaming sites at least the ones I've visited so it should be nothing out of the ordinary.
yea Jordahn, there lotta sites which i FIRST thought were bias like Eurogamer,Gamespot & co but i realised they aren't that biased and half the time, they report the truth, yea but in certain aspects they like to bash the ps3 though.
I own both consoles n i must ADMIT that ps3 is the console to own NOW.More exclusives,LBP,K2,MGSIV,Uncharted,and this year more games comin up.I look at my 360 and i all i see is Halo wars & GTAIV DLC for this year, halo wars was a flop too.PS3 has this year.
So go ahead and mention that site,it's not really an issue.

Does the site rhyme with "Botaku"?
@Oyashiro
LOL, I was wondering that myself. Perhaps it is also similar in sound to the very word many anime fans in the US use to describe themselves…?
Hmmmm if it's a retail site, I wonder if it rhymes with Hamazon…
If it sold that much cause of the demo than the whole game will completely cause the ps3 to take over Japan.
Versus will be a better game out of the three in FFXIII's cannon..
That may be the case, but there is no denying that it's fricken awesome to see the PS3 will ultimately sky-rocket due to FF13. I honestly can see the same happening in the U.S. despite it being on the 360 as well.
How much does the ps3 cost in Japan, and how much is that in U.S. dollars?
Arnold, that pic is mind-blowing! I'm starting to think that you should in charge of all picture selections.
Lol! I love it! LMAO.
Hahahaha, thank you, thank you. I choose these pics on a whim, I just think about how a particular news story makes me feel and I search for a picture to describe the emotion. Hahahahaha.
The results are what you've been seeing for the past three days.
I agree. If all nuke detonations looked that rockin', I'd be 100% behind Skynet's plans. Hell… I'd hit the button myself!
Wait, I missed that FFXIII is no longer an exclusive. That's gonna hurt Sony quite a bit. But then again, if the game is gonna be as awesome as they claim it will be, then it will only be truly good on the higher-capacity Blu-Ray discs.
Really man? That was like the "shot heard round the world" in the arena of gaming news. As if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.

welcome back to the world now that they let you out of your Vault 🙂

There is a second FFXIII game coming that WILL be PS3 exclusive, so unless you're only interested in the one game, you need to consider that exclusivity.
LOL worldends….
Hey, some people sleep under rocks 😉
Well, I for one will be contributing to the spike sale of the PS3 once FFXIII is released.
I've been waiting for so long for this game to be released before getting a PS3.

No need to wait, PLENTY of other stellar games for PS3 to tide you over while you wait 🙂
I really should have saw this coming but then again I'm not surprised. I think the closer the release date gets (whenever that is) the more PS3s will start leaving stores, at the very least a spike in console sales.
BTW Arnold that pic is awesome, lol.
Maybe this will prove to SE where the sales will be at for all RPGs. I wonder if here in the US people will bypass the 360 version and use FFXIII as the final excuse to shell out and get the best system and "quitcherbitchin"
WOW,
If they're buying that many PS3's now on a demo, then I can just imagine how many more systems that both, FFXIII & Versus, will wind up selling there also.
It has to be stressed that a true FF fan will buy the PS3 version because the PS3 is also getting FF versus XIII for consistancy sake. It must also be stressed to potential future PS3 owners that if there is any interest in FF, a PS3 should be bought because it will be getting two FF titles.
Never got into Final Fantasy despite having every incarnation of the playstation since ps1. Turn-based, strategy rpg never floated my boat. I'm a hack-n-slash man myself.
FF Versus XIII should be up your alley then

I may probably be the only one on here that wont buy it as I have never played any of the previous versions.
I wish I could get all hyper excited like you guys but sadly I cant over something I have never experienced lol

If you like RPGs, especially JRPGs then you should be considering this game.
Final Fantasy are self contained games, and all play differently from the last. Not playing any of the others wont take wont take anything away from enjoying FFXIII.
Give it a shot when it comes out, you may like it.
You're not alone, I actually didn't know what FF was or what was it about till I saw footage of FFXIII a couple of days ago;D
I do believe they have awoken a sleeping giant…
Well said…
Interesting. Unless there is another game launch going on in japan, this would appear to indicate that there are a large number of potential PS3 owners out there simply holding onto their yen before their favorite game arrives. Certainly if a mere demo was enough to tip the balance for the most avid fans, and sales spiked by 40,000+, I can only wonder at the number of new PS3 owners that will accompany the game's actual launch during the Winter.
I wonder whether there is any of this pent up demand in western markets?
i read somewhere that the PS3 bundle was not a $400 buck bundle, probably $450. Someone please confirm.
They are actually paying to get a hold of this demo. I totally wish that Square-Enix doesn't hold back the US version's quality. If so, this could be the defining game for the PS3 that xbox fans claims that PS3 doesn't have (Although i think that's all BS). It'll be a multi-platform, that makes the xbox look horrible.
Although I have a feeling that once Square realize PS3 and Xbox version are so different, they might port down from Xbox instead to keep them identical, after the next payment, with a fat check from Microsoft.
LOVE the pic 🙂 Hahahahahahahaha
great news. I'm not worried about FFXIII going multiplat. Those who own both consoles will get in on PS3 and those who don't own either will buy the PS3 because thats where its meant to be played 😀
is final fantasy versus still a ps3 exclusive ?
So far so good. I was looking forward to vsXIII a lil more than XIII, but after looking at vids of the demo…they are about equally anticipated now. ^_^
This is great news! Alot of people are waiting for certain games before they buy a ps3…. I know a few waiting on God of War 3.
Well now hopefully, sony will get the hint that its the RPG's that move console units. because honestly its the main reason i even got a PS3. I thought it was going to have a great RPG lineup. honestly ive just been playing valkyria chronicles and FF12 like crazy to hold me over and hopefully one day, ill try eternal sonata. all because im waiting for FF13. i mean the 360 has RPGs but they are crap so far and square Enix have been doing dickall for this generation so far (Have yet to see any of their games grace our console). I can only hope its because they are putting everything into Final Fantasy.
Actually 360 has a couple of worthwile RPGs. Only one, however, is made by Square Enix (Star Ocean TLH),
Check out Tales of Vesperia in first quarter of 2010. Dont think it'll come before that. I really hope Tales of Vesperia gets both Japanese and English Voices.
Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean 4 are the two only worthy RPG in Xbox
Lost Odyssey was an amazing game. That is the only RPG that Microsoft has that I want that is not coming to the PS3.
ffxiii and ffxiiivs will owned.
