Killzone 2 DLC Set For April 30, Guerilla Passes On Co-op

It's one of the biggest PlayStation 3 exclusives so far, so it's not exactly surprising to see the level of excitement associated with the upcoming downloadable content.

First, the good news: it has been confirmed that the map pack, known as Steel & Titanium , now has a confirmed release date of April 30. We don't have a price just yet, but it's enough to know we'll get these great new maps before the month is out. Now, the bad news: according to the latest edition of Game Informer, Guerilla has confirmed that, despite any rumors you may have heard, co-op gameplay won't be included in the impending DLC. Said Guerilla Co-founder and Managing Director, Hermen Hulst:

"We looked at all the different flavors of co-op early on, but decided our first priority would have to be the single-player experience and the multiplayer. Rather than just tack on co-op, it would have to be integrated and done to a similar standard as the single and multiplayer. Having looked at it again now. I do not think we would want to add it as DLC."

Bah. Oh well. We also saw the rumor that new vehicles might be featured in the first batch of downloadable content, but as we haven't heard anything new on that, either, we have to assume the Steel & Titanium description is complete. There's nothing wrong with new maps, of course, but the fans may want something a bit more significant as time wears on. None of this stops KZ2 from being the masterpiece it is, though.

New maps should kick ass, but I am wary as to how long it will keep non-clan matchers interested past getting all the medals. The online is very robust and active to date, true, but I personally feel that a new experience ladder would be appreciated as well. Perhaps in due time, but in the meantime I am itching to play some new maps.

I wish they added CO-OP. I hope that they give us 4 new maps instead of just the 2 that I've seen so far.

Im on the fence i could do without the co-op and be fine and not complain about it. On the other hand i would really like to play it with some friends.

I know a few buddies of mine didnt buy it cus there was no co-op but they really are missing out regardless.

so far,i have only played the demo, and while it was stellar,i have not yet bought the game, because of not having co-op,and now it seems inevitable to have it,and in this way it seems guerilla will not get my money because of it,the way i see it its hard to justify the $60 price tag, especially in this economy, and i know i'm not alone in this but we'll see…

the game is worth it for Warzone alone. Really this is the best $60 I have spent on the ps3, sucks there is no co-op but there was no co-op in COD4 either and I bet you own that.

@btn,i respect your opinion, however i still stand by mine.
now about the call of duty comment, the answer is:,no i do not,i own 1,2 for ps2 and 3 for ps3 and i was letdown and have not yet finished it for that reason,im not interested in modern combat, and will wait for world at war to go down in price like i usually do…
there are very few games that i would pay full retail price for (bioshock2,half-life,halo3, doom4,etc)
and even though psn is free,i do not care for online.

Bah! MGS4 doesn't have co-op and it rocks the house. Bioshock doesn't have co-op and it's a brilliant good time. Just saying, not having co-op does not detract from a good game. Hulst is a brilliant man and if he doesn't want co-op in his game then so be it. Good on him for sticking to his guns and making the game he wanted to make.

Brillant point, and good mention of those games. If people are constantly whining to Guerilla instead of complimenting them, how do they think this could possibly effect Guerilla's motivation to hurry and make a sequel for people who will never be satisfied anyway?
As for people complaining about cost of DLC being free or not; People, the PS3 is not a cheap system, for being the best, it can't be. if you BOUGHT yours, you knew what you signed up for, if you didn't buy yours and got it as a GIFT you've already saved hundreds of dollars. This is a tough economy, people are losing jobs, Guerilla made a good product, released it when they said they would, I applaud them. DLC doesn't HAVE to be free, gaming isn't always a cheap hobby. There's great co/op in Warhawk and Resistance 2, but if people are still upset they can try this great solution to both problems:
**Get out of your Mom's basement(playing World of Warcraft like Cartman on South Park!)and get a job involving video game production, you can both make the type of games you like and afford your DLC for others** In life, anything manmade has a price, only rainbows, sunrises, and Mr. Hankey are free!

told yas co-op wont be in the game or as DLC.
GG's moth666 said it wouldent be in the first comumity interview with the playstation blog.

But im realy dissapointed with this i was expecting the first DLC to be realy big theve made us wait long enough.
this game in general is a big dissapointment i mean in the same time it has taken GG to make this game insomniac has made 4 R1 R2 R&C feature tools and R&C quest for booty.
and resistance 2 has 10 times more features than KZ2.
no co-op you cant even play online with 2 players on 1 console how crap is that.
i was expecting alot more since this game was in development for what like 4 years thats a long time and it realy does not show.
besides the single player campaign wich is EXTREMLY short theres nothing to do besides the adverage MP wich gets boring after a while.
as most of the reviews said it does not bring anything new it does not even bring the things that are standard to shooters these days.
like not being able to have 2 players on 1 system thats pathetic most FPS do that so why cant this?

^^^ if you say the single player campaign was extremely short then you must have played it on the easist mode which can be completed in under 6 hours but that isnt a challenge!!
i mayself played it on hard and it took me 12 or 13 hrs to complete but felt longer because some parts i had to turn it off and come back to it later or the next day so i have no compliants about the length of the game

I don't think people are whining about having co-op it's just something that should have been added from the beginning or something that should be added now. Not every one likes the challenge or WarZone but rather play and have fun with friends playing the single player. Believe it or not, co-op prolongs the life span of a game in my opinion just like multiplayer would because you can always play with different people, different people means different style of play so it keeps things interesting and fun.

I have to say that co-op isn't a necessity. I mean look at all the FPS games that are out for the PS3 or the 360 for that matter. COD4 was one of the best FPS out there and had no co-op. MGS4 no co-op and it rocks. R2 was a great game and co-op was a good feature for it.

Some of you need to get with the program. Since when has co-op been the sell all in regards to a game? Don't get me wrong I like co-op but can do without it. If every game had co-op they'd be the same. Not every FPS is alike and the sooner people realize that maybe they'll appreciate the game more.

No co-op?!?!? BAH!! They had their chance to score a couple of extra bucks from me and instead choose to miss out. I don't think Killzone 2 is as good as people make it out to be. It's a very good game, but nothing revolutionary from a game play standpoint. I'd rate the game an 8.8, with an extra 0.2 for technical excellence, making it an overall 9.0.

it is short.
7 hours on elite and im up to the cruser and cant get past there.
but it is short 10 levels is dissapointing for a game in dev for 4 year why cant it be like DMC3 that had 20+ lvls.
20 is to many agreed but still it is short for a game that has been worked on for so long and this is supose to be the ps3's flagship title where if you ask me R2 is more of a must have than KZ2.
