Not surprisingly, the Final Fantasy XIII demo has been in the news a lot lately; you'd have to be living under a rock on Mars to not know a one-hour playable demo just recently shipped with the Blu-Ray edition of "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" in Japan.
It's not available outside of Japan, but we all assumed the gameplay would be leaked not long after the demo made its way into the hands of the Japanese public. And so it has happened: feel free to watch a live streaming video (courtesy of Justin.tv) of the demo over at FinalFantasyXIII.net . While it may be true that this demo is based on an outdated build of the game – a sensitive topic amongst the fans – it still looks great. We've seen plenty of gameplay details already, and some of us were a little worried that FFXIII would represent an almost complete departure from the gameplay we all know and love. But while there will be more of an action-oriented focus in certain aspects of the battle, you can see in this video that Square-Enix hasn't left their roots behind. We're excited to see a good amount of flow and diversity in the combat, and of course, we're thinking about the vast potential… You never see the biggest, flashiest stuff in early demos like this, and FF is often all about "flash." Hence, what might a massive summon look like? Or how about the most impressive physical attacks? And what about those unbelievable multi-character combos we've been hearing about?
Anyway, this may be the closest most of you ever get to this demo, so drink it in while you can. There is a chance that Square-Enix will let gamers nab it off the PlayStation Store and/or Xbox Live Marketplace at some point, but that'd be a ways off…if it ever happens at all.

did you find this out from my email? lol
No, saw it at N4G.
Thanks for the e-mail, though.
hey it's cool. did you ever get those brass knuckles?
Arnold might've…not sure.
Definitely diggin on the battle system, just turn based enough 🙂
is it still random battle sequences?
please let it be.
Sorry nope, you gotta run into their physical bodies on the map, but it looks more like FFX or X-2 in battle than the cheapy FFXII battle model.
@mixedkidbx dude no offense but why are 90% of your comments about how you already knew about this and that, and that you have been telling Ben and Arnold about it for weeks…
c'mon as a writer it takes awhile to get stuff posted, considering typing and editing. If it could come right from Bens mind to the screen I'm sure he'd be steps ahead of you.
Now on to Final Fantasy… The video does look good even though its not the final build. I really wish we would see the demo on PSN but as said it would be a ways out.
hmm let's see. before i even joined this site i used to always see "tip from so and so" when someone gave a tip about something. now you rarely ever see that.
this LIVE DEMO has been being played since 8pm EST. i sent the email to Ben around 10:15 or 10:30pm assuming that since it wasn't posted yet i figured he didn't know about it. them magically awhile after that the article pops up. its just funny.
god forbid someone calls out the mighty gods on this site about things.

Okay, drop it guys. We're always scouring about for news, and while we don't usually see tips before we see the info ourselves on the 'Net, we always appreciate any help the readers are willing to give.

I think its great you know of all the latest before alot of others and im sure PSXextreme.com appreciates the tips!

fine i'll be "arrogant" like you said. i have no problem keeping gaming info to myself and letting the rest of you find out hours later.
oh and just so you can't say i never talk about games…..
the demo was nice although it seemed like you really only control the main chara. i also would have liked to see some type of summon or esper being shown… but this is an old build of a demo.
Happy?
Isn't the demo that come with the movie in Japan about two hours long? I guess this will for the states in 2nd or 3rd quarter seeing that it has a 2009 winter release in Japan as a PS3 exclusive.
its about an hour from what i could tell watching the demo from start to end while he was playing it. he did pause a lot in previous play threw and check messages on his ps3.
he also showed a different trailer (i think it was different) of FF vs XIII. that was also on the disc
OMG
i'm crying
It already feels like the old final fantasy games
Ah yea…we all expected this leaked footage of gameplay to come out soon…amazing. Well I haven't seen it yet…since it's still loading and stuff…but can't wait to see it WOOOOO!!!!!
OH MY FU**ING GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS LIVE STREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VERSUS XIII LOOKS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! REAL-TIME FOOTAGE OMG I'm freaking out!!!!!!!1

"Versus XIII?"
-Arvis
I can't sit here forever, someones gotta separate out the versus stuff so i can see it.
the VS you wont see "menu" options. the VS is just a trailer not a demo.
he usuallys shows it after he finishes the demo

ARGH, wtf, darn broken release dates 🙁 I want my FF13 demo already, hurry up play-asia :O
everyone is just wondering if the NA release of this will include the demo too
i'm pretty sure SE confirmed it won't be, or at least so far as everyone knows it isn't.
Yea, not sure why the NA release apparently just gets a "sneak peek" at FFXIII instead… don't really see what's preventing them from getting the demo out to us as well. Just slap some English subtitles, translate the menu commands, and its good to go…
SE is too lazy to do that, they're putting all their efforts to the 360 version, lol maybe the xbox marketplace will get the demo, lol
actually as far as i heard, they are putting little to no effort in the 360 version lol.
We're pretty much figured it out we think, lol. SE just made up a bunch of BS code to try to force the ps3 to crawl.
Less quality on the xbox, perhaps?
Why can't I see it from my PS3?
i stayed up last night to watch it, and enjoyed it. i know its still a ways away and from a diff version whatever, but it did satisfy me for now. thanks for the link
This is making everyone piss their pants?
i wish square-enix would just rewards all its fans and let everyone download this demo. or at least make it available on FFVII in all regions.it sucks that they havent and now that the video's are up its like rubbing salt into the wound.
MS have put a lot into the deal with SE and to see them then allow PS3 owbers demoing the game in MS own country before 360 owners is just a non starter. Live marketplace will almost def have the playable demo before PSN gets it-just like RE5 demo-that's just how petty and tit for tat the industry has become this gen. As the games 360 got either exclusive or early didn't really set the world alight they're sure to want something tangible from this deal, aren't they?
TBH, the demo didn't really hit me as hard as I expected anyway-dunno why maybe my hopes were too high but the Vs footage looks really sharp(not just because it's(atm) PS exclusive) because it looks like more of a progression rather than taking this and that from previous FF games to improve the whole like FF13 itself looks from the battle system. Hoping for some actual innovation in Vs(I know it's hardly the genre for that usually but it looks so special so why not?) Nomura can do it if anyone left at SE can but does anyone else still have that lingering feeling about MS taking KH to 360 exclusively this E3?
Like SO4 I don't want to mess about with multiple discs when my 360 still scratches the odd one-something which will make buying FF13 a no brainer for the PS3 version for anyone with the choice. The longer this has gone on the more it feels like MS, understandably, did the deal mainly to slow PS3 sales in Japan.
