This may come as a surprise to some of you. After all, Nintendo has publicly portrayed themselves as a mostly "family-friendly" company, and they've clearly tried to reinforce that position with the Wii. For the most part, they're content to let Sony and Microsoft dominate the adult gamer market.
But they've apparently missed their target in the U.S. According to poll results from the Weekly Reader Research, gamers in the 5-18 demographic said "they would prefer to have" a PS3 over any other system. The following results are official:
The study further revealed that – brace yourself – girls don't like video games as much as boys. The poll showed that 23% of girls would rather have no console, while only 3% of boys said the same.
Overall, the survey reached over 3,000 respondents, a little more than half (1,538) were boys. 965 of those polled were between the ages of 5 and 9, 769 between 10 and 12, 792 between 13 and 15, and 487 between 16 and 18.
