Nobody wants to go through a bankruptcy; there are always personal issues mixed in with the business problems.
According to Kotaku, the development team that has been responsible for 17 years of Mortal Kombat wants out of Midway. It seems they're not happy with the way the publisher has been handling the whole situation and the designing team "is in talks with other publishers." For the record, the guys who gave us Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe aren't actually under contract, so they don't have to stay with Midway, but if they do go elsewhere, they may not be able to take the MK franchise with them. And they did say they don't really want to leave behind the current development process going on for another MK, so it's a bit of a conundrum. As for Midway, they merely said the team "is in good shape," and they just can't hand out bonuses. Obviously, Midway doesn't want this core team to leave because if they do, that could ring the death toll for the struggling publisher. For our part, we hate to see icons of the video game industry floundering financially; we all grew up with Midway and we'd certainly like them to stick around. We just can't imagine the industry without the word "Midway" on some boxes somewhere!
Anyway, we'll keep you up to date. Hopefully, everyone can resolve their differences cordially and the MK team stays where it is. Then, when Midway finally emerges clean on the other side of this bankruptcy (again, cross your fingers), things can get back to normal.
There would be no recovery for Midway if they lost Mortal Kombat.
But if the team wants to leave, is it really fair to force them to say?
…and then Square came swooping in to save the day! ….no?
Imagine it: Mortal Kombat vs Final Fantasy.
Fatality? Cloud gets impaled by Scorpion
finish ff….. excellent
Ruh Roh, if they gotta stay put and they REALLY wanna go, we might get a sub-par MK.
…. I never thought of that, Final Fantasy Fatalities o.o that could be very interesting
someone needs to reinvent MK,At least bring it back to the good old 2D days.
@juan,yes whatever happen they need to go back to their roots….
Don't do it just make another awesome Mortal Kombat game like deception with lots of unlockables
Maybe Squeenix could make an Ergheist (spelling?) like game with MK characters haha that would be hilarious
Ergheiz… I think.
I enjoyed that game somewhat.
Hey whatever it takes to get MK back to MK. i mean i liked MK vs DC… well let me say it like this…. I liked MK. I didn't care for the DC.
The fact that the MK charas all has some type of new moves was nice. It was good to be back to the basics of just straight kombat, and not having 2 different weapon stances.
Hopefully, if there is a next MK, it will be just that…. MK
then disney save the day…? LOL JK
Whatever they have to do to go back to their roots they should do it, i did not like MKvsDC at all.
hasnt this been going on for over a year now? Wasnt the style of the MKvsDC good? thast what i heard, i think they should give it one more shot, and be like Street Fighter IV made the gameplay 2D but in 3D.
seriously they can go wherever they want.
BUT if they made a new deception or MK shaolin monks they would make heaps of money.
shaolin monks was such a fun game the best fighting game ive played and its the ONLY game ive had so much trouble finishing shao kahn is so bloody hard
Give me a HD mortal kombat like Street fighter 4! Its in 3d, but its old school 2d game play = Genius!
I miss the old school MK. I liked all of them except MK vs DC. Just didn't pull me in like the others for some odd reason. I hope whatever happens they step it up b/c SF 4 and Tekken 6 will be tough to beat
