Although Resident Evil 5 was a definite success, the gaming industry can always use a fresh take on the survival/horror genre. Therefore, they've turned to movies for one of the freakiest, most sadistic premises around.
According to Variety , Konami has confirmed that they have purchased the rights to Brash Entertainment's Saw title. Brash is bankrupt, so Konami snapped up this promising game, which is now set to be released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC some time this fall. The launch should coincide with the sixth film installment, which isn't really a surprise. Konami has big plans, too, as they're claiming that Saw will become the next Silent Hill , which is indeed a bold claim. Said Konami's director of marketing, David Daniels:
"Because we have leadership in the survival horror genre, we're passionate about it and wanted to find another property on par with 'Silent Hill. 'Saw' has grossed over $600 million worldwide and sold over 28 million DVDs, so we felt like it was a great opportunity to align ourselves with one of the most successful horror film franchises in history."
When Brash went under, rights for the game passed to the movie studio Lionsgate, which thought about publishing the game itself but decided against it. Konami picked up the license and now, we're all excited to see how things turn out. Apparently, the game won't follow any one specific plot from the movies; it'll be original and only loosely related to the film storylines. Obviously, the gameplay will be mostly puzzle-oriented, as you'll likely have to find your way free of Jigsaw's maniacally devilish traps. We aren't about to make any sort of prediction, but really, the premise shows promise.

This will be awesome! First day buy if it looks as good as I think it will.
Loved the movies. This might be exciting!

"released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 adn PC somet ime this fall."
There you go Ben, you can delete this after its fixed..
Fixed.
………..I'd like to remind everyone that I do about 175 news updates per month. Forgive me if I'm not PERFECT. 😉
Spell checker anyone ?
We dont care Ben as long as we get the news as long as its not an April Fools joke haha 🙂
I promise to only post a correction if the syntax appears to say the opposite of what you mean or its just a HUGE pet peeve 🙂
Its like people who say "For all intensive purposes," I just wanna strangle them.
^^^I personally can't stand "all of THE sudden", or people that say "warsh".
I wonder what type of game this would be? a puzzle game where you have to solve the puzzle to live? A simulator where you build up the most complex death traps there are and the better you get at it the more people you can abduct and torture? or something altogether different? whatever it is I have a feeling that it won't have multiplayer.
But wouldn't it be cool if you could design your own traps and then put your friends in them to see if they can get out?
If there are a lot of positive similarities to Silent Hill, I'm there.
I actually think I'll give this a rent first, unless a demo comes out. I think it had promise, if they do it right.
Saw was lame like many other horror movies look Konami I would rather prefer an proper Silent Hill game than this hollywood trash
i love the saw films and i hope the devs do the films justice by makind a genuine scary and gory game!! bring on the blood!!
At leat konami realized silent hill is washed up
Looks like I am the only one who thinks the movies stopped being good after two. Not really looking forward to this.
Saw movies are ok, i just think they need to stop making them, getting a little over done. Game could be good, could you imagine a hostle game though that would make for a interesting but disturbing game.
Yes they have to stop because there is a significant delay between each movie and they are all tied so closely together that you can't know what's happening fully unless you watch all the old ones before you see the new one. That was maybe okay for the first 3 but cmon 6 of em?
I agree with the need for no more films, even though they are good, they are getting a little bit samey. But the game should be good, and what would be good, is if you could do it from like both sides? So like, escape from the traps, and when you complete the game, you 'carry on' and make up your own traps? or something along those lines?
April fools day was yesterday….
Come on this cant be serious, Se7en & Saw brought the tragic downfall of horror films(Even though Se7en was a thriller) , which now have no suspense and just focus on brutality…. its pathetic, this is such an awful idea, i plead Konami to think this over.

Do you just have negativity surrounding you on every subject?
@Ultimadream
You should just stop posting if you are just gonna say that you hate everything that this site reports…honestly no one cares about your negativity or not or even if your life is miserable right now…if you are not gonna contribute to a worthy conversation just stay out of it…

Obviously the man is a movie buff (that is Kubrick in his pic I believe), and lets get serious Saw is no Oscar contender. The first was alright, the sequel a year business turned it into a joke. Hollywood at it's worst.
I really don't understand the appeal of the Saw franchise (as well as movies like hostel etc.). they are not at all scary or invoke any sense of dread, they just pander to this gore fest horror that as no substance at all.
If you want a good scare check out "the decent", that was the last good horror film made in a while.
As for a game version….pass on that
Ya. I liked that movie too! A nice twist on the genre, and actually was kind of different than any movie I have ever seen (all female cast, and great/unique cinematography)
Not so sure on the game of Saw. I may be mistaken and it turns out to be one of the best games ever.
As for the Saw films I have them all on dvd 1-5 and I do like them even seen each one in the cinema but making a 6th I thought it would be finished on the 5th one obviously not. It wasn't really left open like the previous ones have been.
Can only wait till we see the demo or hear some more news on this.
Agree with you guys, it has potential. It could be a major genre twist by mixing survival horror with puzzles. I gotta tell you I was pretty slow on how to survive some of those traps while watching the movies. Maybe it's cuz movies turn my brain off, games do the opposite so I'll give it a demo or rental play.
Problem is without some kind of way to make your own traps or something I don't see much replay value because once you beat it you know all the puzzle solutions.

I'll give it a rent for sure but with a game like this, you have to admit it is a sure fire contender for amazing downloadable content…like a new group of traps every month of something like that
The Saw series has gotten progressively worse . The first was an amazing thriller that kept you glued to the seat , and the ending was just killer . But now it has a hollow plot and only cares about picturing human mutilation instead of presenting an engaging story .
pass
Would be cool if you play as Jigsaw… Either way I will check it out once it releases. Might be good seeing Konami is handling things but I don't see how much replay value it might have.
I think Hideo's secret project bombshell for E3 has been leaked!
Great news!!
I'd love to play a Konami's "SAW" game 🙂
Not much of a Saw fan, ok I just don't like the films and I did give them all a shot. And as for Konami's claim that the Saw game could be the next Silent Hill…why not go back to Silent Hill Konami, please?
Sry just had to get that out, lol.
I don't really like the Saw movies, but in videogame-form it may be fun.
Was this a game that konami has been making for awhile or something that got dropped by someone else, because i saw that a Saw game was being maed…about a year ago or two and nother ever happened to it. Same as Enders Games: The Battle Room, which never came to fruition it seems
This sounds like it will be something similar to manhunt…hopefully!!!
I just hope they don't F it up!!
I love all the gore genre movies, Saw, Devils Rejects, Texas Chainsaw Mass , etc, etc….
