This year's Game Developers Conference was a mostly quiet affair, although we did hear about a few new PlayStation 3 exclusives. The one that got the most press time was Insomniac's Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time , but let's not forget about Ivent's Strength of the Sword .
You may have some questions about it, and you should definitely check out the game's offical website to learn more. But for an inside look at the project, you may also want to view ThePlayStation3Guys' interview with Ivent designer Kaloyan Ganchev . Perhaps the most important detail that we glean from this interview is that Strength of the Sword will in fact be a downloadable title for the PlayStation Network, and not a full Blu-Ray production as some had assumed. It will also remain exclusive to the PSN, which should make the Sony loyalists happy. Another interesting tidbit comes when the question is asked regarding the PS3; i.e., how difficult is it to develop for? Perhaps surprisingly, Ganchev had this to say in response:
"Developing for the PS3 is not difficult but let us say that it is specific to develop for it. We think that big companies are finding it sometimes difficult since they have huge resource base in terms of program code. Since PS3 has a specific architecture this is a precondition for a specific way of coding to be used when developing for it. We are a starting company and this is our first game so we decided from the very beginning that we want to develop games for the PS3. One more thing which makes the development of the game easy for us is Phyre engine which has great capabilities and is very easy to work with or at least our lead programmer Georgi Rakidov finds it this way."
To hear more about the Phyre Engine and where Ivent stands on the idea of PlayStation Home, Trophies, and more, feel free to read the rest of the interview. The PSN is already home to more than a few top-notch titles and we're really hoping that Strength of the Sword will deliver the goods. We still like to say it reminds us of The Mark of Kri , regardless of whether or not the actual gameplay is vastly different. Looks interesting.

I'm really surprised how well developers have adapted to the development tools, that's a huge plus.
The art style is very interesting. If this turns out to be a quality playable fantasy action/adventure game, I just might have to download this one.
Dunno bout this one, but I'll keep an eye on it just in case. Was Mark of Kri good? I never played it.
Awwww…you missed out. 🙁
Awesome game, as was its sequel Rise of the Kasai.

i dont understand the massive hype around the ratchet and clank series…..
you should be ashamed saying something so ridiculous,It has had millions of fans since the early days of the ps2 so is very important to the ps3's future, same goes for twisted metal, sly cooper and jak and dexter.
It's just goofy cute fun (at least). 3D 'platformers' aren't necessarily massively cool gameplay-wise, but if done right, they can be quite enjoyable (as can ANY type of game). R&C is just a longtime standard on PlayStation consoles.
Boo
lol 😉
Look cool, the main character is kinda….hmmmm "boring?"
Design-wise
I've heard elsewhere too that using Sony's PS3 tools is easier to port to 360 and PC than it is to use the 360 tools and port to other platforms. Dunno how true that is, though.
last time i read its also available on pc, so its solely on psn now??
Looks like another purchase at PSN
Hey, this means Sony can use their recent exclusivity deal on the developer if necessary, yes?
😉
The PlayStation store is golden lately. Burn, Zombie burn is the best £6 I ever spent. Let the good times roll.
I've been waiting for another mark or kri whats taking so long that game would be dope on PS3, I hope this game delivers
PSN ID Biggest_GMoney
Its developers were making the new Splatterhouse for Namco before they were fired.
Looks like another dorky psn title. How about some real games on psn. Most of the crap on psn, I would not spend my hard to come by money on, but there are a few that are ok.
I think the Network has it's fair share of great downloadable games. If you want to see a lot of crap games though, look no further than XBLA lol. I don't want to even call them games they're so bad. 😉
Called it.
Here's hoping it's worth playing. I would LOVE a quality, budget-priced RPG.

The Phyre engine is pretty good.. it's no CryEngine or anything, but for it's purpose to help developers create games on the PS3/PSN, I think it's great. They have a walkthrough over on GT if anyone's interested.

Sweet sauce another developer that wants to be a Playstation exclusive developer is always welcome.
Off topic:
I know that infamous is not something you are interested in Ben but still I hope that you would report news about it cuz it is still a PS3 exclusive and I am looking forward to the game. Thanks if ever.
