While Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is one hell of a demo (if that's what you wish to call it), racing enthusiasts are still eagerly anticipating the final launch of the full game. There is no estimated release date yet, but we do have an interesting update for you.
SCEA director of hardware marketing, John Koller, told VG247 that the driving simulator would release "across all platforms" at a time when it would "make the most sense." Obviously, some would like to include competing platforms like the Xbox 360 in that "all platforms" comment, but Koller was likely including the PSP; we're expecting the official announcement of a GT5 PSP version at E3. Gran Turismo is most certainly an exclusive franchise, for a variety of reasons. As for the second part – "what makes sense" – there has been a lot of speculation and debate concerning those words…we really don't know what he means. It almost sounds as if it's a matter of market timing rather than the simpler, "whenever they finish the game" mentality. Say, for example, they complete the game in September (highly unlikely, but this is just a hypothetical) but it would make "more sense" to release it on the PS3 and PSP in late November or early December for the holidays. So, they wait to launch it.
But there's no way of knowing for sure. Koller went on to say that Polyphony is a "developer who makes a lot of their own decisions," and that besides the fact that GT is certainly important to Sony, they can't make "any announcements regarding the game at this time." Well, we've at least heard that before. We're familiar with that comment.
Related Game(s): Gran Turismo 5
"across all platforms" !!?? That sounds like trouble.
Don't worry. Why would Sony put GT5 on a non-Sony console when it owns the IP and Polyphony is a first-party developer.
The part about "to all platforms" left me with a bad taste in my mouth.Wish he could have rephrase that unless he said it to intentionally give 360 owners false hope.
@Orvis,
I thought Polyphony was independent like Insomniac.
Nope, it's part of Sony World Studios.
It makes sense to release it when it's done. Sooner rather than latter hopefully.
This is one game that will sell a butt-load of copies no matter what time of year. They don't need no stinkin' Christmas.
NFS:Shift does look promising this year though for all of us racing freaks.
Not the trouble you're thinking of Alienange. PD is still a Sony owned studio. No way Kaz would be moving his baby to a non-Sony platform. Although, I'd love to see it on PC.
Mmorne
I hear you guys. I know what you're saying. But saying "across all platforms" about a game made by a "developer who makes a lot of their own decisions" still makes me nervous.
took the words right out of my mouth (keyboard)
Well seriously, is he crazy saying that?? Has GT ever been across all platforms before? I could be wrong, but I don't think so…
GT4 is still supposed to be released on the PSP at some point. But it keeps getting pushed back over and over.
Form what you guys are saying, Sony would be stupid if they ever let this wonder go multi- platform. Anyways I expect a Holiday 09 release (Winter)
Dammit, I see GT5 in a news title just to find out more of the same~
That was a Jack Bauer "Dammit" btw
i am hoping for a december 2009 release!
Oh God Please!!!
Me too. Hopefully the beginning of 2010 like Jan. or March
To be honest i'm more interested in NFS:SHIFT than GT5, but i will probably still get it.
And I'm more interested in the next Burnout lol
I lost my interest in the NFS series when they started releasing a "new" title every 4 freakin months.
For a few hours I was top 25 on the Logitech Windowed online Time trial. Those Japanese 13 year olds with their nubile reflexes and unfettered focus can really lop the seconds off.
Me too. I don't really care about NFS anymore, since what you said and since EA never seems to make good PS3 games.
I just hope there is full damage on all cars equally in the final game.
GT5 + Damage + Online = Tonnes of copies and PS3's sold.
damage = fail
similulation -> damage = realism, so no, damage =/= fail
Alienage, not only that but that game would be impossible to run on the 360. Game I heard is gonna have up to 1000 cars. The bluray disc will be used to full capacity. Forza 3 i heard is gonna up the anti of cars from 350 to 450, and i've heard will be forced to use 2 DVD discs to fit the game on.
GT5 is the biggie i'm waiting for. Can't come sooner. Best looking Sim ever. Race Pro on 360 is garbage and that's from SIMBIN who are best known for being the no.1 simulator producers on the PC. Game is full of bugs and the graphics pale in comparison to GT5.
No kidding, I'm getting this one. Imagine a multi-disc version of GT5? That'd fail.
um dude GT2 was multidisk and that rocked.
It will undoubtedly fly off the shelves and move hardware. If it releases before the ps4 is released… like this century, dammit.

Why would a Director of Hardware Marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America announce a 360 release of Gran Turismo? I think you guys can stop worrying about that. It's silly.
-Arvis
money?
He didn't announce a 360 version and I never said anything about the 360. He said "across all platforms." Well that could mean a version for PS2 or PSP or even PSN … Does anybody who wants GT5 feel like waiting around while they make a PSP version?
I'll be surprised if we see it this year.
I don't mind being patient for GT5. The series has always treated me well.
Perhaps they are waiting to release the game against Forza 3.
Forza 3 can't possibly stand up to the beast.
Well said Hexen.
P.S. Hexen was one of my favorite FP games back in the day.
I kinda preferred Heretic II, but Hexen was good too.
Actually… when I had a 360, I really liked Forza 2.
Was it Gran Turismo? No. But a fun game none the less.
Hexen and Heretic both ruled back then. Especially online in co-op mode. For Hexen anyway. Never played Heretic online.
Koller did it for the lulz

That is seriously scary, to lose GT5 would be disastrous, but hopefuly not the case.
I'm pretty sure John meant for the PSP and PS3 when he said "across all platforms". I mean come on do you really believe SONY would allow their own game come out on another system that isn't SONY branded. The fact that you guys were actually scared makes me laugh.
I can't wait for GT5 to come out but if it means wait longer for quality then by all means go for it. NFS is dead to me… A moment of silence for the ounce great franchise. May you rest in peace and forever live on in Most wanted, Hot Pursuit 2, Carbon, and Underground 2. So long good friend…… *sniff, sniff*
lol mustang750r..i love the way you picked out the best ones!!:D!
obviously he meant across all SONY platforms. Seeing as they are a 1st party they dont need to say SONY in every statement.
My husband is waiting and waiting, it's like he has ants in his pants lol. I'm thinking a later 09 early 2010 release.
Well, no surprise here, as the GT franchise has never been one to be rushed. I too would be shocked to see this thing on shelves before Dick Clark's decrepit ass gets dragged out to Times Square once more.
Im on the PS boards and this is nothing new. Kaz and PD have said they're still working on content for Prologue to give us. We can be sure they are working on the full game at the same time but some effort is directed at Prologue.
I highly doubt we'll get the full game by December '09 as much as ild like it, i doubt we will. This factor raises the issue i always say, if you're a GT fan then you owe it to yourself to buy Prologue. The racing is great, the cars are meticulous and the tracks are enough to make a racer horny.
**Nevermind my last post. Irrelevant.
What they're trying to do is give all the prologue-fans more content so they won't feel ripped off when GT5 comes out. GT5 will most likely be like GT5 prologue except with all the prologue-bonus-content built into the game-disc.
Not everybody feels ripped off by prologue, its only a few. I think they're making content for prologue to also buy them time and to let them learn from it in every department. GT5full will be a lot more than Prologue.
I'm just dying to have it.
It will be for the PS3 and PSP only, and maybe they will have a light version for the PS2. There is still a huge user base that hasn't made the shift yet to PS3. Unless the release of GT5 goes with the PS3 price drop.
I can understand that they will wait for "the right time" to release GT5. They will probably wait to do it when the market has settled down a bit and when they will move the most units/consoles possible.
They've been working on this for so long now they need to make sure the launch goes absolutely perfect. Where they can take the biggest corner of the market at that specific time.
Hopefully (seeing they make a lot of their own decisions themselves) they will run a big (successful)advertising campaign to promote GT5 and it's release.
So I think once they are ready to release they sit on it for a while. Build the hype and hopefully flood the world with quality T.V ads & promotions all over. Besides GT5 will have an appeal to a broader group of gamers and even non traditional gamers. Men and even women dig cars and with the quality and realism that GT5 will bring it will hopefully reach new users all over the world.
Hopefully it will get dad to buy that PS3 for his son, seeing that it will no longer be a waste in his eyes. Cause he gets to play too and also drive all the cars he wants… I mean hey the wives might even buy for their husbands just to get them to shut up….
Let's hope I'm right and that is actually what they are planning.
Just on the side even if it does go to the Xbox which I think will never happen it will only be able to run on 720p as that is the Xbox's maximum resolution(Pls correct me if I'm wrong). The PS3 will run at full 1080p (Once again correct me if I'm wrong). But if that is all so which one will you buy????
PS3…..Hands down.
I was thinking the same thing about it possibly coming to the PS2.
This game should be released as soon as it is completed. We have been waiting too long for this. This game will sell out no matter when it is released.
