By now, you should be aware that Dead Rising 2 is on the way, and this sequel will indeed be available on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. However, we haven't seen much in the way of details since the initial press release, and we've got all sorts of questions. They remain unanswered, for the most part, but IGN learned about the game's awesome multiplayer mode.
During the Platform Independent Shader Development, Making of Dead Rising 2 panel at GDC 09, Blue Castle Games character art lead, Izmeth Siddeek, spoke about the team's efforts to generate a "large amount of characters that have to be lit and shaded properly." It seems Blue Castle has been able to create "unique eye and cloth shaders, as well as skin shading" that will look extremely realistic. This is interesting, but it was Product Manager Laura Scholl who spoke about mass producing characters to the point where as many as 6000 characters could be on-screen during multiplayer sessions. This not only proves that a multiplayer option is indeed in the plans, but it also proves that we could be looking at one of the most insane, intense multiplayer experiences ever . With that many zombies on the screen at once, it'd be like Night of the Living Dead times a hundred, and it ought to be crazy fun. Well, it'll be a little difficult, too, but at least it'll be worth seeing.
Capcom hasn't said any more on this issue, but just having this piece of information is enough to keep us excited until the game's launch, even if it won't arrive until next year.

Sweet. I can't wait! And maybe this time they will put a real 'Save Game' function in.
I can't wait!
I loved the first one, bring this on I say BOOYAH!
I'm glad Capcom is no Sqaurebage by doing multi plat. Might try this game out. Hey was the first game split screen in anyway?
Is that even possible? Something tells me that 6000 is going to have to be scaled back, but I'm still looking forward to this.
Wonder how the multiplayer will work, will it be like it is in an FPS where you are assigned either human or zombie status?
most likely a "hoard" mode like game mode
Going to need a LOT of ammo for my shotgun .
Your pic is awesome!
Imagine 5999 people just looking at you with guns.
6000 zombies? on the 360?
Guess they're all gonna animation in about 3 different ways total. & they'll all gonna be about 10 different zombie models.
*sighs* why can't they use the SPEs and the cell?
Look for lots of palette-swap zombies.
Increadible. I love Dead Rising, in fact the first one was the only reason I own a 360. I can't wait to see what it will be like to plow through 6000 zombies with a car.
Thats amazing 6000 characters on one screen WOW.
I doubt it! Hype!
Q!
"i am home"
thx Q.
I doubt it too.
Lovely stuff, the 1st one was great but now were getting it on the PS3, HAPPY!
out of the the 6000 I'm pretty sure only like 30-50 you will be able to interact with and the rest will be there just for the look of it
6000 huh? I'm from the "Show Me" state and they'll have to show me, lol…I am hopeful though. I watched one of my friends play through the first one and it looked awesome. Almost got a 360 for it, then the RRoD turned up and that squashed that idea. OK, back to watching Big Trouble In Little China.
i've always wanted to play this game, i hope capcom gives players the option of first person view or 3rd,if not i wont bother….the 6000 zombies sound kind of steep…
why pass up this game just because theres no fps??? the 1st 1 was insane as a 3rd person shooter, so why "westernise" it???
i enjoyed the first one so im hoping for a lot more in the second.
PS3 could handle this with ease, then again i guess someone lied and said that GOW2 is 360 to its limits. Cause I wonder how the the box could handle 6000 characters at once? HOLY S@#*!

I was impressed with Heavenly Sword and how well it handles the characters on screen. Remember the final battle with all that stuff happening with no slowdown at all? Well that was insane and I know for sure the PS3 will handle that feat. 6000+… No problem.
I'm sure they won't have all 6000 Zombies moving on screen constantly but use it more as an effect to create a feeling of size and intensity. Would be cool to see how they pull it off.
Just happy to see someone is at least sticking to their promises of being Multi platform…
