While there have been a few movie-to-game adaptations in the past year that have turned out surprisingly well, we can't think of a film based on a game that fared well at all . Take, for example, the less than mediocre "Doom."
Most actors aren't willing to talk about their flops, but Dwayne Johnson (still better known as "The Rock") recently spoke to MTV News about his experience, and he acknowledged that, quite simply, mistakes were made. He kicks off the interview by immediately saying, "We're an example of what not to do," when it comes to trying to bring video games to the big screen. It's an example of "trying and failing," he continued, and furthermore, "it always just comes down to writing and material," which I think we can all agree was significantly lacking in "Doom." He does explain that they tried to bring in other types of fans into the project – fans from the sci-fi and thriller movie genres – rather than simply catering to fans of the game series, and that didn't work, either. At the very least, he's being honest about it and not trying to pull the typical Hollywood crap of, "oh yeah, it didn't really appeal to everyone." That's code for "I don't wanna admit it sucked." Johnson is being candid and hopefully, if he ever does another film based on a game, the director will take his advice and know "what not to do."
You can view the brief interview over at the MTV Multiplayer blog , and although we're not sure why it takes place in the back of a car ('scratches head'), it's still worth a listen.
In my opinion there was ONE good game to movie and that was Silent Hill. That is a badass movie and it stuck pretty close to the game. That is the only one that faired well to the change from game to big screen.
What about the Resident Evil games ? ok they were not exactly like a true likeness to game but they were pretty damn good films all the same 🙂
Agreed, Silent Hill is not only the best VG to Movie, it's actually a good movie. And it really did a great job creating that feeling of nostalgia for the fans without compromising the film for non-fans.
Although, I have to say… the 13 year old in me still loves the first Mortal Kombat movie. C'mon, what MK freak didn't think that movie kicked ass?
And I'll admit, I own and enjoy the RE movies. I've never really been a fan of the games, but I AM fan of Milla kicking zombie butt 😀
In it's own way MK did kick ass, the problem I had was that MK was all about murdering your opponent, and the fatalities were lacking. The second movie was just a debacle.
Loved the MK movie… in all it's ridiculous glory.
lol yeh the mk theme is great too…to be fair the only thing with the mk movie they could have done better was more gore
Hitman was pretty good… But Silent Hill was pretty good.
I like DJ i think hes a good actor and a funny guy he was my favorite wrestler back then, he was the main reason to watch smackdown, I guess it was time to move on to better things

I thought Doom was a pretty good movie. Have you seen many sci-fi movies? There sure have been alot worse ones.
In fact the first Tomb Raider movie was decent too.

I liked Doom as a film, white it didn't blow me away with anyyhing special I still enjoyed it.
I did the 2 Tombraider films too.

Doom was an alright movie.
Rocky is still the best. He's also always hilarious on SNL, and last week was proof. =)
Agreed! SNL was always hit or miss for me, but every skit he was in was abso-fricking-lutely hilarious! The opening dance and the "wrestler" joke were comic gold! 😀
I didn't like the Doom movie, it was a little too… cheesy…
cheesier than a cheese filled cheese cake covered in easy cheese named cheese.
On Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, there's a movie trailer that says something like TBA, Splinter Cell would make a frickin awesome movie; if they made it a kind of a James Bond actiony movie that displayed his awesome stealth and moves and stuff. And if it did something with his daughter to connect it.
Usually video game movies aren't too good though (*cough*street fighter*cough*)…
lol, hes now my favorite actor. ps, i went on killzone online today at my bros house and f*** me.
I actually liked this movie. This was better than most sci-fi movies I have seen. 1st thing I do think of is when someone mentions this movie is BFG.
I have high hopes for the Prince of Persia movie.
I thought the Rock was starring in a "Spy Hunter" movie?
i actually thought doom was one of the better game movies. Wasn't bad at all. Silent Hill and Resident Evil 2 are the top game movies.
If you want to have a good time with the Doom movie, just fast forward to the end and play the first person scene, that was jawsome.
An interview in the back of a car means it was done at gun point.
You mean no one liked Bloodrayne? lol..not even her boobs could have saved that one….
Boobs are good, and Bloodrayne was decent for a look at hers just because she was the new critter in Terminator 3
hang on, r you saying terminatrix got her baps out in another movie….and it was called "bloodrayne"……
"i will be back"
i say so mikoasbe
I really liked the Doom movie…I thought it was a bit weird that I finished watching the movie for the first time and read this article straight after…oh well…
hope the Metal Gear Solid movie is good..
Wasnt it on last night? I think i clicked past it
I liked the movie but never played the game(s) so that could be why but yeah really liked it and that's all that matters to me.
I Have To Agree With Arn-Old(Lol), Rocky Is The Best. But Wasn't That A Movie To Game Adaption @ First? AaaaanyHo, Doom Wasn't Half Bad, I Actually Liked It, But The Final Battle Was Maaaaajor Cliche IMO
He didn't mean Rocky the boxer he meant Rocky as in The Rock. When he said he appeared on SNL did you think he was saying Rocky the boxer was on the show? LOL

Doom was super wack. Atleast the Rock admitted it.
Doom was something to pass time with. In my opinion, Silent Hill is the best. Especially since it stuck pretty close to Silent Hill and if you weren't a fan it was still a good movie. Other ones that were decent were Resident Evils, Mortal Kombat, and Hitman. Ones that were crap, Doom, Max Payne, Dead Or Alive, and Bloodrayne.
