Hey, how's about a new RPG for the PlayStation 3? Who's going to refuse? …if you start, we will hunt you down and do bad, bad, bad things to your pets.
Thanks to PS3Center, we have learned that Japanese gaming publication Dengeki has lifted the lid on a new exclusive JRPG entitled, Atelier Rorona . The hardcore fans will immediately recognize the first part of that name, as there have been multiple installments in Gust's franchise on the PS2 over the past several years. The last, Atelier Iris 3: Grand Phantasm wasn't so great, but the games always had a lot of potential, and they certainly appeal to the appropriate niche audience. Come March 27, we'll learn more about Rorona , but we can pretty much guarantee that it'll be a turn-based RPG with plenty of anime influence and a very colorful palette. One could call it a throwback, but remember, this will be the first entry on the PlayStation 3, so we're expecting more prettiness and more depth. It's not the type of RPG that's good for everyone, but we're certain that there's a very interested minority out there who will probably pick this up on day one. As soon as the 27th rolls around, we'll try to latch onto those new details.
Atelier Rorona is also a very cool name to say. Kinda just rolls off the tongue. Try it; say it out loud. …see? Isn't that sweet?
Is it me or are a bunch of games starting to become exclusives for the ps3??
I'm sure that the 360 has had plenty of smaller titled exclusives this entire time, but what does it mean when the ps3 is also starting to get them?
Mmmm!
I will always say it
"Never underestimate the power of Playstation."
One of the best quotes I ever saw back when I bought my ps1.
It means the rpg floodgates are about to open>_>
is it coming to the US? is it at least in english subtitles and english text? oh my god. if so, i'll cry so hard.
lol Ace
This is funny, i've spent the better part of the day looking online for 'anything' jrpg-ish. I don't really have the cash but I was looking at psp games even, and even going so low as to plan on buying DS 😛 which i don't want at all really, i just want some damn bright and colorful jrpgs. Not sure if this one will be any good, or if it'll even come out anytime soon, but at least it's something! and it's exclusive to ps3! booya!
I DO recognize it but I'm sorry to say the Atelier series is one that I missed out on, I really hope they amp up the graphics for PS3 and I'm looking forward to seeing more about this.
As much fun as I'm having with KZ2, the RPG bug bit me in the ass and I broke out Grandia II for Dreamcast last night, I forgot just how great that game was.
Grandia was sooo awesome.
I've always wanted to buy the 2 other sequels but never could I find them.
But that was in the PS2 era and I have a PS3 so I lost my lust 🙁
=D
Hah, Mr. Shepard is a fun writer.
Anyway, I'd love an RPG!
Is it just me or have I heard of many John Shepherd/Shepards lately? (ranging from Resistance 2 to stories and real life).
StarGate Atlantis' John Shepherd can kick your John Shepherd/Shepard's ass! 😉
Yep now thats what im talking bout. It seems like were hearing about new ps3 exclusives everyday. Sony said they did have a lot of unannounce exclusives that havent been talked about.
Ben there is another ps3 exclusive called mars for ps3 and pc that looks like it got some potenial, you should do a article on it here is the link.

please change your avatar, I don't want nightmares.
The character designs for this series are top-notch!
That's very important, lately Square-Enix's rpgs have like the weirdest, and un-inspiring character designs ever….
Now all I ask from this game is to give me a solid story. The gameplay can suck, but if they story makes up for it that's all the goodness I need from it. And for the game to be long of course.
Anyway it's great news!
the pet part made me lol
It made my check on my dog: Darkly Dreaming Dexter 🙂
@john,
"I refuse", but…..
"good luck" on trying to muscle "Lil Demon".
P.S. I hope you realize he fills his syringe with liquid Drano, & those red-piercing satan-eyes have the aim of a sniper when going for the nutsack").

YES!!!! I love the drano slamming chihuahua demon from hell
I think i saw that dog in Resident Evil
This… is… hardcore…
I love me some JRPG.
I can't wait for X-Edge to come out in May. I ordered the Japanese version but then canceled it when I heard it was coming out in the U.S. in May.
Still waiting on Tears To Tiara (JRPG) and Demon's Souls from NCS because I'm waiting for them to pick me up a few other PS2 games.
Ohh… I forgot about X-edge. Can't wait for May then!
I enjoyed the first Atelier Iris, although I never finished it. It has one of the best quotes from any video game ever:
[characters camping, resting for night]
Cat Girl (to main character): "Klein, you can come lay down with me if you want."
Klein: "Are you kidding? The ESRB would go crazy!"
-Arvis
superlol
That sounds like a righteous moment in the game =D
I'll definitely buy this, hopefully they'll keep making exclusive ps3 rpg's 🙂
and so it begins…..
No thank you 😉
Wow this is great news…A PS3 EXCLUSIVE JRPG!!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully it will be a good one. We need more RPGs!!!!!!!!!!!! Especially Japanese ones!!!!!!! Especially exclusives!!!!!!! LOL.
Again, there are already a few JRPG exclusives for the PS3:
Cross Edge, coming to the U.S. in May 2009
Tears To Tiara (Japan)
To name a couple.
FINALLY…. I've played all Atelier games that are on the ps2 (I don't know if there are any in the PS1). I can't wait for this one. But I do hope that they improve the graphics as well. It's the next generation!
