Fair warning, people. When you're done reading this, you're going to ask the very question that we can't answer: "damnit, is it a prequel or a sequel?!" Well, the developers once said it would be "both;" whatever the hell that means.
Anyway, the Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams teaser website, There's Something In The Sea , has just opened, and everyone is starting to debate and speculate. As you can see, we don't have a heck of a lot to go on, but we do know this- there's a map with three documents pinned into the Northern Europe section, and while the first is nothing more than what appears to be a crudely designed Big Daddy doll, the second document is intriguing. It tells the story of a young girl, Maura Clune, who mysteriously disappeared from Liscannor Bay; an eye-witness apparently spotted the abductor, who had a "red light coming from its head" and made its escape "at incredible speed." The third document is a letter by J. Lynch, and the attacker may be identified as a Big Daddy, as the head looked like a helmet of some kind and it had "heavy boots" on its feet. The date of the letter is important: it says 1967, and if you remember, it was 1960 in the original Bioshock . Soooo…we may have the start of a conflict of some kind with a Big Daddy absconding with a little girl – who could eventually become one of the Little Sisters, obviously – and a letter dated 7 years after the first story.
See? A sequel and a prequel. We haven't the slightest idea what's going on, but it certainly sounds interesting, right? And besides, we expect nothing less than yet another masterpiece, so we welcome any new details…as should you.

LOL @ Ben, I dunno if you meant it or not but the whole "There were documents located at location X mentioning Y" thing was VERY Bioshock itself.

@ Qubex
Definitely for the PC, FPS belong on the computer IMO. I love the controls of a mouse/keyboard setup over a gamepad plus DLC is often quicker and free.

Is it me or did the first bioshock just seem like deuce ex underwater?
not saying that that was a bad thing, in fact the game was really good but I think it might have been a little overated in terms of a new style of FPS game
Jesus, how many articles will be on this subject matter, You act like its never been done (or mastered) before. just look at The Godfather Part II! I really dont see why people cant understand the concept.
I'll try not to give much away for those who haven't finished it…but that picture of the "crudely designed Big Daddy doll"…didn't we see someone holding one of those at the end of the first game?
Now I have been called simple minded in the past so forgive me, but I dont really see any signs that this is a prequel. The fact that the letter is dated 1967 alone should be enough. The only thing that might indicate prequel at all is in the trailer where we see a city rising up from the beach. That could mean a Jurassic park 2 type deal where there was a 2nd site. The "rapture" that might be in this game could be a "prototype" if you will.
i've played the first bioshock and i have to say that the game is good but i didn't like the story that much. I'll probably won't play Bioshock 2. I'm anticipating the release of Infamous, NA version White Knight Chronicles, Heavy Rain and Uncharted 2.
Three documents? There were six when I just checked. I'd recommend bookmarking it to keep up with the updates.
personally, i think bioshock 2 will be a sequal, but will have flashbacks from before bioshock 1
Would you kindly…
