Ubisoft: “No Plans” To Release World In Conflict On Consoles

Earlier this year, Ubisoft announced that World in Conflict: Soviet Assault would release for the PC in March. Console users were a touch concerned, however, because the release included no mention of the anticipated console versions.  "We never even got the original World in Conflict !," they said.

Now, according to GameSpot, we learn that you had every reason to be concerned: Ubisoft has no plans to release Soviet Assault for consoles. World in Conflict was first announced for the Xbox 360 (later confirmed for the PlayStation 3 as well), but the title never arrived. Activision Blizzard revealed it had no plans to produce several titles, and Soviet Assault was on that no-no list. Fans became encouraged when Ubisoft acquired developer Massive, though, and they've been hoping to hear about a console iteration of World in Conflict for many months. Unfortunately, this is one RTS that may not ever make its way to consoles, so you'll have to turn your attention elsewhere. The good news is that there are several RTS titles on consoles already, with more on the way; the days of this particular genre being limited to the PC are almost over. But perhaps Ubisoft made the right decision in not releasing this one for consoles…there are just so many blockbuster titles to contend with in 2009, and it may have struggled.

Anyway, we'll let you know if they change their minds on the issue, but it seems unlikely.
