Earlier this year, Ubisoft announced that World in Conflict: Soviet Assault would release for the PC in March. Console users were a touch concerned, however, because the release included no mention of the anticipated console versions. "We never even got the original World in Conflict !," they said.
Now, according to GameSpot, we learn that you had every reason to be concerned: Ubisoft has no plans to release Soviet Assault for consoles. World in Conflict was first announced for the Xbox 360 (later confirmed for the PlayStation 3 as well), but the title never arrived. Activision Blizzard revealed it had no plans to produce several titles, and Soviet Assault was on that no-no list. Fans became encouraged when Ubisoft acquired developer Massive, though, and they've been hoping to hear about a console iteration of World in Conflict for many months. Unfortunately, this is one RTS that may not ever make its way to consoles, so you'll have to turn your attention elsewhere. The good news is that there are several RTS titles on consoles already, with more on the way; the days of this particular genre being limited to the PC are almost over. But perhaps Ubisoft made the right decision in not releasing this one for consoles…there are just so many blockbuster titles to contend with in 2009, and it may have struggled.
Anyway, we'll let you know if they change their minds on the issue, but it seems unlikely.
as i see it, they will change their minds in the future, like you said,
."there are just so many blockbuster titles to contend with in 2009, and it may have struggled." .
they know what they are doing, they will release it for consoles in due time…
Ben don't get mad at me…RTS belong on the PC, they are nowhere near as good on consoles. This doesn't surprise me.
I'm going to have to agree with you. With all the Hot Keys needed for an RTS, Unless you use a plug and play Keyboard on the PS3..then RTS' do play better on a PC. I can't imagine trying to play Starcraft on a PS3..although if they ever released it, I'd give it a try. Tom Clancy's EndWar came close to bridging the gap with the Voice Command system, but there were still flaws. And I like the use of a mouse in a RTS to be able to jump to whatever section of the map you want…Controller sticks, aren't the same. The PS3 has the power to be able to play an RTS, but like I said, the gameplay isn't the same when you're using a controller.
I don't imagine it ever will be until someone designs a RTS strictly for consoles from the ground up. They'd have to build the whole game around the controller so that it works seamlessly. I don't see that happening anytime soon as RTS's don't have the same popularity as FPS, Shooters (3rd person) and RPG's.
I wish they would release it on the PSP
As much as I love this site, and the community and posters even more, I sometimes wish the news would be more current. I think this release came out 2 days ago.
Is there a reason for this, Ben? (out of curiosity)
Sorry, it wasn't exactly high on the priority list.
haha.
Shame, this was one of my favorite RTS games released and I was looking forward to it and its expansion releasing on the PS3 in a bundle
Idc RTS games are not my get down.

i burnt my toast
What? I'm not in conflict!
Well, that's bad. I bought the original World in Conflict a couple of weeks ago and was shocked by super-high quality of this title. If you have a good pc then you must try this game!
sucks that it wont sell well, with all the pirating for pc gaming lately lol
