If you're not yet aware, Champions Online is a MMO currently in development for the Xbox 360 and PC, but if recent evidence is accurate, it should also be coming to the PlayStation 3.
According to IncGamers, there's a job posting for a PS3 Engine Programmer for developer Cryptic Studios. They also remind us that Cryptic has frequently said the game would be headed to "consoles" (plural), even though Champions has only been confirmed for Microsoft's system. The job posting in question is pretty damn clear; it reads:
"Are you interested in a challenge? We have developed a flexible, cutting edge MMO platform to power games like Champions and Star Trek Online. It runs on PC and XBOX 360 – now we want to support PS3 too. Are you an expert PS3 coder? Do you enjoy squeezing every last drop of performance and spare memory out of the system?"
The superhero craze may be over in Hollywood (one can only hope), but it continues strong in the video game world. DC Universe Online is in the works, the new Watchmen: The End is Nigh just released today, and you can bet there are more superhero titles on the way. And doesn't it make perfect sense that the fans would want to play against other superhero followers online? You know, one big ol' world of people endowed with the gift of supernatural abilities? Yeah, sounds like fun.
cool I am not a superhero fan (of that style anyway) but what ever comes our way, though isn't DC a ps3/pc exclusive, anyway I am more interested in NCsoft's ps3 project.
I don't think the superhero craze is over.
Watchmen is coming out Friday, the X-Men Origins series is starting in May, The Avengers is in production, the next Batman is coming eventually, Spider-man 4 eventually. Ironman 2.
hmm
You beat me too it.
Don't forget Thor and whatever else Marvel and DC have up their sleeves too.
"The superhero craze may be over in Hollywood (one can only hope)…"
What's the matter Ben, don't you like the recent spate of superhero movies? Hollywood has finally been getting them right, now's not the time for them to stop.
I think they're tired. I'd like to see a movie that, you know, requires some sort of actual SCRIPT. We're all special effect-ed to death.
But Ben isnt that what makes these games awesome and more innovative and unique from others?
City of Heroes and City of villains was similar to this, but it sounds like it would be potentially better.
And they almost came out and announced this game for the PS3! Star Trek I know will be on the PS3, but it sounds as though they want to do Champions Online as well.
I wonder if we'll finally get cross console battles. One can only dream…
They mentioned Star Trek MMO… probably the only MMO I would give a shot since quitting EQ after 8 years~
JESUS the third party exclusives are really going away. At least for the other camp it looks like. I thought this was going to be the other sides exclusive answer to DC Universe Online…..
LoL, so can we file this under upcoming PS3 games lists as
"Timed Exclusive for MS #248,337,448"?

And another year goes by when I refuse to pay to play online on Xbox. Good thing third party devs are bringing the games that would tempt me to to my sweet PS3.
Keep the games coming.
Woah!! Wait? Is this like Champions of Norath? Champions: Call to arms (can't remember true name) but an MMO on 360 screw that I don't wanna play an game with horrible lag
No. The Champions games you are thinking of were Sony first-party exclusives.
I played FFXI (did everyone skip that one?) for like 2 years, and it was amazing, i'm so excited about games like DCU and now this Champions game. The Agency also has the potential to be well worth the money. I'm wondering if any of these will require a monthly fee, I would think that would turn a lot of casual console players away. Although $12 CDN a month for FFXI on my PS2 was well worth it and probably saved me from buying new games evey month for a long time.

Yes, don't confuse this with Champions of Norrath, people. Completely different things; no connection whatsoever.

Hm ….but wouldn't a new Champions of Norrath game be …just awesome?
