Resident Evil 5 is only eight days away, and we imagine survival/horror fans are already on the edge of their seats, awaiting the momentous day.
And if you want another incentive for purchasing and beating the game, check out this Mercenary Mode video ; it shows you the action you will unlock upon completing the main adventure. Those who are familiar with previous entries in the franchise are well aware of such a mode: you get to revisit certain sections of the game and blast as many enemies as possible within a certain span of time. We imagine this isn't the only thing you unlock after beating RE5, but new modes always add to the longevity of any game, right? Of course, seeing this video is bound to re-spark the control debate, because many have already said, "hey, I could probably do a lot better at this Mercenary Mode if I could move and shoot at the same time." After all, you're going up against the clock and speed is of the utmost importance. But we figure that if you've already beaten the game, you've become comfortable with those "tank controls;" it also helps if you've played previous RE games, too. The bottom line is that if you enjoyed RE4, you'll likely enjoy RE5…and how many of you out there had fun with RE4? Lots of you, yes?
Anyway, it's always entertaining to blast away without the hindrances of plot or puzzles, and that's exactly what Mercenary Mode will give you. Have fun!

We should already be comfortable with the tank controls, since there has never been an RE game without them… And in response to what the guy said in his comment, I figured thats why they left it and I'm perfectly fine with it. If they made a run and gun mode, it wouldn't be nearly have as scary.
On topic though I hope you can play as hunk and wesker and such like in RE4… maybe bring other characters like claire or jill 🙂
Edit: Also in addition to what I said about the game being scarier with the tank controls, another thing that would make it the scariest game since resident evil 4 would be the fixed cameras like in all the other ones… but that would hinder game play too much

I don't get why everyone thinks if it's not tank controls it's gotta be run and gun, no that's not what ANYBODY wants, (i think) we just want to be able to atleast walk somewhat, even at a snail's pace for all i care, just as long as i don't have to stand in one spot while being ENCIRCLED with zombies. see the older games works because like many here have said, you were in hallways and narrow passages, meaning there really wasn't alot to do. but not that there's free roam, with zombies on ALL sides. it's kinda eh, also on those old consoles, they didn't have the technology to make as many zombies appear on the screen as they do now with RE5
Getting encircled is what keeps you on your toes and also what gives you the freaky feeling of 'is their anyboby behind me about to stick me with an axe',plus it makes the game alot harder and in my opinion f**king SWEET!!
If capcom put a slow walk 'n' fire method in the game, they'd probably give you next to fu*k all ammo & you'd end up standing still anyway to make every shot count!!
Shoot or slash em in the eyes then punch/kick them in the face & finish on the ground.
i understand that the developers wanted the tank controls to create a more tense environment, but i feel that if these controls get in the way too much, the game is not going to be as good as we expected. either way, mercenaries mode does look awesome, i wonder if that could be multiplayer somehow…
@laxpro – Yeah, but it's also the first time the zombies are this fast and agile.
I'm still not sure about the controls, I understand it's Resident Evil, but it just seems like it would be more fun if they were different.
For the record, I've never been a RE fan, and I'm not a fan of survivor horror. I've played all the RE games, just never passed any of them. I even thought some were really good, I just never liked the controls much.
My favorite was Code Veronica on the DC.
The "Zombies" in RE4 were pretty agile and would duck and weave some of your shots, then there were the other enemies (like those bug things) that were pretty quick. Didn't have a problem taking them on with the "tank" controls then so i don't expect there to be a problem in RE5.
I won't lie, there was a learning curve, but after an hour or so it was a piece of cake!
I'm ashamed to say after RE4, I gave the mercs mode a shot but by that time I had really had my fill and never went back to it.
i thought we had sumthin special a common intrest sniff sniff all i wanted to do was dismember the limbs and heads of the undead with you snniiifff.(they were parted by an unescapable destiny.this is just the beginning of their worst nightmare)
The mercs mode was more thrilling and entertaining to me than the regular gameplay in RE4.
Mercs mode was awesome on RE4, hope it tops it
More great news regarding next Friday!!
Man i cannot wait for this game!
I hope theres a unlockable mode where u play as h.u.n.k or barry(like assignment ada or separate ways)without a partner for some old fashion single player fun,it BETTER not show up as DLC!!!
The mercenaries was awesome in RE4,that double bladed dr.salvador guy was almost invincible,ya had to keep climbing up to the highest point and blast him in the face with the shogun a few times then jump down, wait for him to follow then climb back up and repeat it all over again, although it was easier with wesker,h.u.n.k & kauzer.
I wonder what the new version of him will be like…eeehe hee 1 week to GO WAHOOOO!!!!
Mercs mode in RE4 was freaking awesome and addictive. THRUST PUNCH!!
