If you were wondering how well Street Fighter IV would fare in the sales department, here's your answer- it's doing pretty damn well.
Not only has it raked in plenty of critical acclaim, Capcom has revealed they have already shipped over two million copies of the stellar fighter. The total numbers for the franchise are actually quite staggering: the name "Street Fighter" has managed to sell "over 500,000 machines and 27 million console games" since the series kicked off way back in 1987. Furthermore, according to GameZine.uk, the PS3 version of SFIV is doing better than the Xbox 360 version in the UK; the Sony version grabbed about 53% of total launch day sales. The English really must love the game, as Street Fighter IV even knocked Wii Fit out of its lofty #1 sales slot, and overall, SFIV is the "fastest-selling traditional beat 'em up" in UK game sales history. It may be a bit challenging, but there's no arguing its quality, and for hardcore fighting fans, it's just the title they've been waiting for. Last year's Soul Calibur IV was great, but most will agree that it's more for the casual crowd.
With 2 million copies already shipped, SFIV could easily become one of 2009's hottest sellers, even though it'll have to contend with other blockbusters like Killzone 2 . Well deserved, Capcom!

Im not suprised SFIV is one of the all time great fighting games and the ps3 version is 100 times better than the 360 version cuz the controls on the 360 version suck trust me II got the ps3 version but im in the SFIV tournament at gamestop and there using the 360 version ugh you have to have a fightpad or stick to play that version.
no shock there. i had to stand in a line an hour long the day it came out cuz everyone was there. i was watching the stacks of the game get lower and lower. gamestop also had a lot more copies of PS3 SFIV than they did of the 360 one. yet, the ps3 was being sold quicker.
good to hear =D
the veterans on SF were PS owners from the start, so I expected the PS3 version to fare better.
I have to disagree. SNES introduced SF to the home consoles, and I wouldn't be quite so fast to tie the console history of the game to the playstation brand.
That is nice but it won't change much 360ers still love there 360, and developers already knew they were making more pesos on ps3. But good news either way.

I'm curious, does this iteration signify a trend towards releasing JUST numbered titles in the Street Fighter series? Or will we also see a Super Street Fighter IV Turbo, Mega Street Fighter IV Fourth Strike Alpha Squad Attack Mode Mark 9, and a SFIV: WhereTheDevilDidAllTheMainCharactersGo Max Power Mode before we see a Street Fighter V?
From what I understand, the updates they're going to do with the game are going to be downloadable instead of a whole new disc-based game. There's already talks of a Street Fighter IV ' (dash, or Champion Edition stateside) and they did 3D models of both T.Hawk and DeeJay during production, and if there's enough demand for both of these things, we'll get it. Fighting games are one sort of game that can REALLY benefit from DLC in more ways than just costumes and such. For one, I'd really like to see a tweak that cancels out the fact that Zangief, Seth, Abel, E.Honda and any other character that has throw-based special moves can bypass ANYTHING you do and grab you anyway. Even if you're doing an Ultra.
But seriously, if FPS games can get more maps and the like, fighters shouldn't go without new stages, new characters, and more tweaks to the gameplay. I don't think Capcom's gonna slack on this. Street Fighter is back like LL Cool J in Momma Said Knock you Out.
Agreed, it's the perfect genre for expansion through DLC.
I love both of these comments.
I for one am thrilled at the DLC prospects for this game. Not just new characters (bring back Dee Jay and Charlie!) but new modes maybe? World Tour Mode please!

Such a tight title!
who is that girl in your avatar?
No wonder the ps3 version is 38.99GBP and 360 is 27.87GBP.Am going for the 360 version cause of my tight budget n don't forget Re5 is also 13th March,it'll be wise to buy the 360 version.
I got my Street Fighter IV for £31.49, I have student discount 😛
lucky you.
Yup i played it all last night till 2 am, and my fingers a still raw the morning after lol.
Online is really fun, its so satifying beating the S*** out of someone in a one on one match like that. more so than FPS's online.
What i like is that the games not TOO over the top like all the past SF titles have been since SF2. I played the Alpha 3 on the PS1, i couldnt get into it.
Man I still picture SF on snes, it looks dam good on Ps3 w most of the classic characters a tiic tic too geh ha. Defenitly going 2 get my copy 2day, idk how Xplay is going 2 be w K2 n a few days! WOOH! halo 4,5,6 got Nothn on KillZonE 2!

Haven't been able to get it retailers are sold out here in Waterloo. I have found it on Ebay and Kijijii which is retarded if people are not going to play it then why buy it let the people who want it get it. Someone is selling a PS3 version for 150 bucks i don't like when people do this. I do want to play this game, i've heard alot of good things from my friends.
I am fairly certain the PS3 version is more popular in Canada as well. I tried to buy it over the weekend, but to no avail, as it was sold out at all EBGames, Futureshop, and Best Buy! Last night I went to HMV and Walmart, and all the PS3 version were sold, and only 360 versions were on the shelf.
did the xbox 1 ever have a street figter game on it?
yeah it had sf2 anniversary and if you modded your xbox, you could play the arcade roms with maime ox like ssf2t grandmaster(japanese)
I just hope they carry on with the series. I don't want Street Fighter to end again…
I must be one of the few that didnt like it besides someone in the forums I forget his name it could be Keaton maybe.
I like Capcom and hope they do well in all their games just Streetfigter 4 wasn't for me sadly.

Did you suck at it? *pats consolingly*

No Arvis, I unlocked a few of the characters etc it just did nothing for me. Sometimes even the best can do that to people lol.
It was Dark Koth who didn't like it either I just remembered his name.
meh some games just dont appeal to you as an individual, im not hyped for Killzone 2 at all, played the demo, thought it was alright, but not enough to purchase, im more looking forward to Silent Hill Homecoming ths friday
I would play KZ2 demo over Silent Hill Homecoming.
i know what u mean ultima, but u cant really judge a whole game on a demo alone.
we've all played games where the games were so much better than the demo.
maybe you're just in a mood for silent hill.
only thing i didnt like about the demo was the slow aiming. i hope the game itself is not like that.
"Street Fighter IV even knocked Wii Fit out of its lofty #1 sales slot"
bout time we bought some real games over here.
Won't stay on top for long, KZ2 is coming.
@Ultima SH: Homecoming really isn't that good, I go as far to say SH2 is MUCH better. I wonder how long it's going to take KZ2 to outsell SFIV….
Sorry, i don't see killzone 2 past 3.5 million units worldwide. I don't see it selling more than street fighter or even metal gear solid 4.
