UK Player Sets World Record For Consecutive Wins In SFIV

By now, most of you have realized that Street Fighter IV is a definite challenge. In fact, the final boss might frustrate you to the point of smashing valuable pieces of equipment, which means you may be impressed to learn of the latest gaming world record.

According to UK site Electronic Theatre, the UK's best SFIV player has officially entered the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition for consecutive wins. His name is Zak Bennett, and although he only made it to 28 wins in a row on his first attempt, he set the record on his second attempt: 108 consecutive unbeaten matches. The world record was set on Friday in London, and Guinness World Records representatives were on hand to witness the event; Bennett's feat will appear in next year's Guinness Gamer's Edition. And if you're wondering, no, Bennett wasn't playing computer-controlled players; he was fighting human contestants. Said Editor-in-Chief of Guiness World Records, Craig Glenday-

"We congratulate Zak on his extraordinary achievement and welcome him into the Guinness World Records family. It's always great to see gamers showcase their talent while making a mark in the record books."

So, how many consecutive wins can you score? And you're not allowed to count beating your four-year-old brother five hundred times in a row, either. For my part, considering I'm downright awful at fighting games, this record just seems incomprehensible to me. My biggest fighting feat was pulling off a couple 7-hit combos in Mortal Kombat: Trilogy

Anyone else having problems getting this game? It's sold out all across Canada at Futureshop and Bestbuy (both regular and collector's editions). However, there are a few regular edition copies at Walmart.

Is there no more hope to pick up a collector's edition SF4 now?

When you want to make a world record recognized by The Guinness World Records, a Guinness World Records representative has to be there to witness it. So how would you set this up with Guinness World Records. I can't imagine contacting Guinness World Records and telling them you want to set up a record for most consecutive wins on a recently released fighting game.
If you look at the Guinness World Records its full of uninteresting world records like, the record for the amount of worms stuck up your nose (I don't know where that came from?)
I bet its a publicity stunt to get an interest from people. They got someone good and they set up opponents who have never played a fighting game before. He probably got bored after 108 wins. I bet he can't do this online with much better opponents?

If this Zak has played against good players then that is a fabulous record and I can't see it beaten.

@big6

Usually collectors editions you have to pre-order or get in the first week it's released. I too have not been able to find this game even regular edition which i was suprised. Ebgames here in Ontario said they get another shipment on Thursday or possibly earlier. Good luck.

I'm pretty good at SFIV myself I'm also in the 2nd round in the gamestop SFIV tournament the only thing that sucks is we have to play it on xbox 360 with the 360 controls plus the button configuration set at default ugh but yeah I'm still going to win it anybody who wants to challenge me my PSN ID is V-Dizzo-F oh and my biggest win streak is 16 ranked opponents but a II ain't trying to set records I'm just having fun unless its money on the line.

I've only played ONE match online so far, and I won. So I'm tied for the highest win percentage in the world.

I had 18 in a row on Friday. I can't even imagine having 108 in a row. – that is how many online wins I have total.

I bought this today….. Street Fighter hasnt evolved at all since SF2!!!! each character only has like 10 moves, its so repetitive, yes the animation and visuals are lovely, but the gameplay is lacking, what also annoys me on the command list, why cant they just have X,0,Triangle and Square. Its no Tekken, but it will have to do for now.

Thats why its such a successful fighting game. Yeah there are other game like Tekken which are classified as technical fighting games, but the SF series has class.

On the surface its simple but it is incredibly complex when you start using some of the advanced techniques.

Ultimadream, get into the game first before u start ur own review, critics are experts and not dumb enough to give it high scores, there's a reason for that.
What games at all do you want? You said Killzone 2 was a no-buy for you now ur having issues with SFIV.
You always sound angry too.Pre-order a chill pill.

For the record, SF4 has WAY more depth than SF2 while still maintaining the perfect balance and twitchy strategy that made the franchise so popular in the first place. Think it hasn't evolved? Look up all the things you can do with the EX gauge.

That being said, I'm with you on the limited move list. It feels… natural… and I don't mind a bit, but I always loved all the tons of moves and insane super combos you could do in SF Alpha 3. =)

Also… they really need to bring back World Tour Mode.

omg SCREW ZANGIEF! On the EASIEST difficulty I'm having a hard time getting El Fuerte's ending because Zangief just can't let go of me. El Fuerte was a good idea gone bad. A Luchador-cook? Classic.

Arvis

Zangief is cheap. Be cheap back. Keep him away from you and use Fuerte's aerial capabilities ruthlessly. Don't worry about being fancy or flashy or doing a lot of combos. Just do whatever you can to keep Zangief away and you should come out on top.

I always preferred to play against the computer, real people cheat ruthlessly. I swear a few battles of MKII back in the day almost turned into a real throwing of hands 🙂

Solidarity brother!

This is why I want World Tour Mode back. I have much more fun against the computer, usually. I'm tired of developers going "Oh, well, we have online multiplayer, so we don't need to worry about adding more single-player modes…"

Drives me crazy.

I truly suck at this game, yet I keep coming back for more. It's so damn addictive, oh and to answer your question, the longest winning streak I've ever have was probably 5 lol. And yes, Seth is a huge b***h even on easy; why? I thought I was the only one, but the more and more I continue scourer the net the more apparent it's becoming.

tlpn99

Traded it in today as I didn't like it. got it for free so it's no matter money wise.

Seth robbed all the other characters moves, if you dont move soon as he starts he uses Dhalsim's arm stretch technique. You beat him first go 2nd round he starts teleporting and then does Zangief's moves, him and Zangief were the hardest to beat everyone else was relatively easy. Anyhow it is gone from my collection now.

Seth can be cheap sometimes, but he is not nearly as cheap as the boss in Street Fighter 3 – Gill. I think that Capcom equates cheap to difficult.

Thanks for the tip Arvy! I'm glad we can vent and share our painful Seth stories. I'm being absolutely serious here. Just check my whiny-little thread about Seth "breaking" the game. Not the case after some soul searching. This is a game that not only is a challenge but challenges YOU as a gamer!

Anybody catch the announcer's: "I don't care what the critics say violence is a beautiful thing!" The ESRB let that fly LOL??!!

You know I actually managed to beat Seth first try with Dan and Zangief. I couldn't even manage that with Ken! Took me about 500 tries with Sagat and Crimson Viper, though. I play on Medium difficulty, btw.

This game rocks on the arcade sticks. I got a couple off ebay. It makes it a alot easier not having to use your left hand to pull off ultimate combos. Not to mention it's easier on the thumbs. I still suck though. My online record is only 6 in a row with like a 50% win ratio.

Arvis

Hey, I'm happy that I even win SOME matches. I finally played more online last night and I managed to get my BP into the 300s. I took out some high level players (800+ BP) but I don't think I won more than 3 matches in a row. I also lost about 15 matches in the third round with my opponent at about 10% health. I seem to crack under pressure and lose the close ones.
