By now, we're all well aware of the Unreal Engine 3, which has become a major player (no pun intended) in the new generation. But another competitor is on the way, and its name is the Infernal Engine.
Terminal Reality has officially announced this "revolutionary next-generation development platform," which will be used to drive the upcoming Ghostbusters: The Video Game . Terminal Reality also plans to license this capable and promising new engine to interested third parties, and they are "currently scheduling private meetings" at this week's DICE conference. The Infernal Engine can be used on the major consoles as well as the PC, and according to the press release, it "provides an advanced physics solution, powerful particle system, and rendering features that provide ultra-realistic environments and characters." Said Joe Kreiner, vice-president of Sales and Marketing at Terminal Reality:
"Terminal Reality's Infernal Engine is a breakthrough in efficiency for game development middleware. Our licensees can leverage their work across more platforms, in less time, than any other engine giving them a competitive edge critical for success. Our licensees get stunning visuals, fast time to market, and the support of Terminal Reality – one of most experienced independent game developers in the industry."
If you want to learn more about the Infernal Engine, head on over to the official site . This could be the engine that acts as the cornerstone of many future blockbuster games, so don't be surprised to see this name alongside major releases.

Hopefully this kicks UNREAL ENGINES' arss i want something new and better, but if its not noticeably better than the UNREAL ENGINE will continue its reign as the top engine.
yeahh i hear yah, i'd like to see something new if not better myself, as much as i love the unreal engine and the graphics its capable of, theres always room for improvement and i see no going backwords with any (or most) of these developers which is great =]
off topic: whats this i hear about midway going bankrupt = does this mean no more unreal tournament?
So I heard fast production times? Meaning more games? Crappy and non-crappy perhaps but that is kinda exciting. As well as the potential for new developers to emerge in the industry if the support for this engine really is "great".
I hope the engine is the real deal, as opposed to Ghostbusters which will probably be vaporware for all time.
IDK, Vaporware is not Phil Harrison's style.
True, it just seems to evaporate like a ghost time and again.
The game is scheduled for release in June.
I just want to see a product of this engine if it's so good…
Hmmm…But can it work for the Cell?
G should release the Killzone 2 engine for licensing 🙂
Q!
"i Am HoMe"
Too bad its owned by Sony 🙂

I wrote that several posts ago!
Or the Uncharted 2 engine.
Or now the GOWIII engine.
Sony should lease any and all of these engines exclusively for PS3 development.

Sounds good on paper, but from a gamer's standpoint, the ONLY thing that matters is whether developers can wrestle great-looking, great-playing games out of it. All else is hype and hullaballoo. While the Unreal engine is getting long in the tooth, developers have plumbed its depths and know how to get the most out of it.
That said, if TR can make good on its promises to lighten the workload, shorten the development cycle, and still deliver stunning visuals, then the Infernal engine may, in time, become an industry standard. Hey, I'm all for ANYTHING that helps developers save money and time–especially in this economic downturn. Perhaps then we'd see less vaporware and more titles actually reaching store shelves.
Unfortunately, from what I've seen, I don't think the Ghostbusters game will truly showcase the power lurking under Infernal's hood. It may take the hard work of later developers to do that. Nevertheless, I'm buying Ghostbusters the day it drops, 'cause there's always room on my shelf for a game that hearkens back to a time that felt less-dangerous and was, frankly, a helluva lot more fun.

first off…Im taking note of the word "Hullaballoo", I like it, and im going to use it in conversation more often…sais with a general meltrad accent 😉
Second…."cause there's always room on my shelf for a game that hearkens back to a time that felt less dangerous and was, frankly, a helluva lot more fun"……..Too true mate, to true. Anyone remember the glow in the dark ghostbusters stickers they were doing with kellogs (about the time the first film was out) I must have been about 5 and those things rocked………ahhh, good times.lol

cool keep them coming! more benefits for the consumer ^.^
I second King James' comment. The cell is different from conventional CPUs and architecture, so I doubt their engine is versatile enough to handle optimization for both conventional CPUs and Cell. If it does, then the engine will be very heavy, indeed, as it will have to include code for optimization on both.
More than likely, it's probably the same type of optimized engine as Capcom's for running both X360 and PS3 games. It runs well, but there's probably a tonne of room left for optimizing on the Cell, which would give the PS3 more frame rates and speed – if they were to focus their efforts in that direction.
Isn't PS3 the lead platform for the development of Ghostbusters? I would think that means that the multiplatform engine is well optimized for PS3 as well.
