EA: Mass Effect Sequel Is Multiplatform

Confirm, deny, confirm, deny…such is the way of things, sometimes.

Last month, it was supposedly "confirmed" that all future installments in the Mass Effect series will appear on the PlayStation 3 (the original title didn't release on Sony's console), although it remained a question as to whether or not a port of the first game would come to the PS3. However, EA quickly denied the supposed confirmation…well, until now, when yet another bit of evidence has arisen. And this time, it's directly from EA: according to Edge, EA CEO John Riccitiello dropped several hints concerning the future of the RPG franchise. In short, he said, "[In Q4], BioWare will release Mass Effect 2 on multiple platforms." Now, he didn't specifically mention the PS3, but what else could "multiple platforms" mean? The Wii? Er…no. Maybe he's only talking about the Xbox 360 and PC, but it seems far more likely that EA – the king of multiplatform, really – would bring all sequels to the PS3.

It's one of the few 360 exclusives that most PS3 owners wish they had available on their favorite console, but these days, third-party exclusives are rapidly disappearing. After EA snagged Bioware, we figured it would only be a matter of time before Mass Effect would come Sony's way. But unless there's an official announcement, we'll just have to keep waiting…

That's good news, I was lucky enough to try out this game before selling my 360, nevr did get to finish it though, hopefully they'll bundle a port of the first game with the sequl for ps3 users, that way they won't be lost story wise, I'm sure both games could fit nicely on a 50GB dual layer bluray disc =D

This is marketing at it's best. Play coy on the consoles it will be released on and let the community do all the hyping for you and get everyone talking at practically zero cost. Clever really.

Maybe, but they also gave R2 a six or something because of a 'lack of innovation'.

wait i remember that, and they gave Halo 3 a good score right(not saying it bad) even though it really didn't innovate anything

Well, I'm too scared of a fail to buy a box so I could be lost in the story but thankfully I have a shocking ability to fill in any story that I come into halfway and as it is a RPG it'll have love from me.

Of course it's going to be on PS3 – this same question happened with Bioshock. "OOO 2k is hiring a person with graphic experience on the PS3, could this mean that they're bringing the game to PS3??? – let's go ask" "Um no…" *1 month later* "Oh hey guys Um we're bringing this game to PS3, SURPRISE!!!!!!!" …..

The first Mass Effect looked great I have to admit and it had great reviews. Heres hoping the sequal will be even better this time around, and even more on the ps3.

I do hope the PS3 gets all three Mass Effects because I was hoping to get back to my RPG roots. But for the most part, this gen has failed me. And please don't mention the 360 because it has failed me in RPG's more than the PS3. On the 360, Atlus' exclusive offerings have seriously fallen short, I'm not a Tales fan by any means, and several 360 RPG's have migrated to the PS3 in better form. So the handful of good exclusive 360 RPG's do not appeal to me as much as the few PS3 exclusive RPG's. So I'm hoping thhat the PS3 RPG line-up will strengthen with Fire Emblem and Dragon Warrior IX on the Wii.

If you are a true RPG fan then Lost Odyssey is really worth a look at if you have access to a 360. I didn't like it the first time I played it but the first time I played it was in short quick burst restricted to the weekends but now I am doing it again and the story is pretty solid just some glitchy issues but all in all a great game

I wouldnt call ME a true to roots RPG. It no more RPG than, say, Fallout 3. But if you enjoy that type of hybrid thats become common these days, then definitely give it a go. The story and the universe its set in are amazing.

Mass Effect is worth buying borrowing or stealing a 360 for ok maybe not buying at full price but buying on the down low at a discounted rate anyway.

I agree! I hope they bring ME1 to PS3 also for everyone to experience the trilogy including the fanboy haters just because it was originally a 360 exclusive. Bioware jusk cranks out kickass games, it's simple as that.

If they release ME1 for the PS3 I will buy it without a second of hesitation, even at full price.

When I bought the first Mass Effect; I played through it twice back to back. The first time I played for 30hrs; and the second time I played like 50hrs. This game is really good and the story is great. Oh and off subject; my second 360 just RROD on me like 30 minutes ago. Luckily I have a PS2 and PS3 though!

This is great news. I bought a 360 just to play ME, beat it and returned both. This will save me from having to buy a 360 again when ME2 comes out, hell, Id even buy a PS3 port of ME1 if they decide to release it!

This is really a great game. I think since I played the original on the 360 that'll be the system i get it for, but if you havent played the first I highly recommend you play it at least on the pc if you dont have a 360. They're going to let you import your character and team and everything.

Not sure what the point of releasing ME2 on PS3 would be. If it's a trilogy then wouldn't I be lost? I'm not buying a 360 just for ME1 that's for sure. I say go multi-plat on ME1 and I'll decide for myself if ME2 is worth it.

Im Not to interested in Mass Effect… I will try it if they make it for PS3, the Game just looks ehh to me.

big6

The problem is, ME2 will most-likely suffer the same "lowest common denominator" problem with all large games… Since the Xbox is only DVD-based, there isn't enough space to store large maps and locations. So what ends up happening is, the RPG will extend gameplay by making the player run back and forth to the same locales in his missions.
I think M$ frowns on multi-discs, so I'm not sure how ME2 will be, as a result.
Hope it'll be good, though…

It's hard to say. That was certainly the case with the first game, but now Microsoft has added the ability to download to the 360 hard drive. Perhaps they could do 2 or more discs that way, and of course 1 Blu-ray. We'll have to wait and see, they are being extremely tight lipped until they can get Dragon Age out the door.

Wait… Bioware is putting out Dragon Age Origins AND Mass Effect 2 in Q4?

Hmmmm…

Hope they can handle it.

My bad.

Dragon Age is coming out in Q3 2010 (Nov 09).

Mass Effect is coming out in Q4 2010 (Jan-March 2010).

I was thinking of a calendar year.

Actually fiscal years vary from company to company where Q4 '09 could very well be Jan-March '10 or Q4 could mean Sept. '09. It all depends on how the company structures their business model and I honestly don't know how Bioware does theirs.

Oh yeah…and guess what. Although this is a bit off topic but Left 4 Dead is also coming to the PS3. REALLY?!?! I thought Valve hated the PS3, and said no about a billion times.

THAT WAS THE PAST.

Apparently when a representative of Valve was questioned about the PS3 listing of Left 4 Dead he responded back "Fantastic. I can't wait to see it." Why would a company representative make a joke when answering a serious question??? His answer could determine EA's shareholders choices can't it??? Or am I just…going insane?

Mass Effect is THE best game on the 360, by a mile, and one of the best games of this generation, right up there with Metal Gear Solid 4 and Valkyria Chronicles. I would be doing cartwheels if it came to the PS3.

You are correct sir it is a fantastic game. I am holding off playing through it again while I play LO right now but it is next on the list as I did a very fast run through a while back when I first got my 360 because I wanted to play a lot of exclusives and see what all the fuss was about and ME was by far my favorite.
