If you're a veteran gamer, chances are, you were all agog when "Tron" first came out way back in the early '80s. It was the nerd's fantasy come to life and of course, it immediately spawned an immensely popular arcade game (which was freakin' hard ). So…who's up for another go-'round?
According to Variety, inside sources have said that despite recent layoffs at Disney Interactive Studios, a new Tron game is definitely in the works. It's designed to go along with the new movie, "TR2N," which will star our ol' buddy Jeff Bridges, plus Garret Hedlund and Olivia Wilde. The film isn't slated to arrive in theaters until 2011 so we certainly can't expect the game any earlier, but here's hoping both projects turn out to be the hi-tech blockbusters the originals were back in the day. This is only a rumor but as far as we're concerned, if the movie exists, the game exists; there's just no arguing that standpoint. Of course, details for either the game or movie are basically non-existent, but as unlikely as it is, wouldn't it be sweet to have the game designed around the old arcade game? You now, just a bunch of separate mini-games, each one seemingly more impossible than the last? I'm sure nobody likes that idea and it wouldn't fly in the modern market, but forgive me for reminiscing…a next-gen upgrade to Tron would make my day.
Anyway, we'll let you know if any new information surfaces in the "TR2N" camp. And if you're too young to know about the original cult classic, than you need to head to Wikipedia, or something.
iv heard of it but iv never seen it caus im only 16 so.
Being 16 is no excuse in missing one of teh greatest movies =O I'm 17 and I saw it when I was like 6-8yr's, lol as well as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, lol but anywayz, I love Tron =) any time I get the chance I'll watch it, too bad I never see the movie on tv anymore =(
WOW tron! Reading this article take to the time when I was like 7.
I had Tron Deadly Discs in my Intellivision and that game totally rocked!
Now, I have Disc of Tron from XBL-Arcade, and still play it now and then
Loved Deadly Discs on the Intellivision… and Nightstalker.
Well they have a few years to develop it so time cant be an excuse for a bad movie based game.
I'd like to see it
I'd like to see it
I hate to say it but I smell a flop in the movie, the first was a technological breakthrough and these days with CG you really can't have any more technological breakthroughs, everything looks good. This is Hollywood once again throwing up their hands going "We have no idea what people want and we suck so let's just resurrect old stuff that worked."
Tron is the grand-daddy of computer graphics. I recommend looking at the making of. The tech involved is difficult to replicate. If you seen the making, you know what I'm talking about. Seen the TR2N trailer and it was a audio/visual stunner. My top list for future Blu-ray purchase.
Even if the movie's bad, really bad…like bad-enough-to-walk-right-out-of-the-movie-theater-and-catch-the-first-bus-by-stepping-in-front-of-it, bad. The respect for "Tron" is still kicking and that's a good thing, indeed. You can still see the MCP and David Warner's characters as Microsoft & Gates. The film was ahead of it's time in many ways. And it had a "Journey" song, c'mon….yeah, don't stop believin' Tron, there's Users who DO care about there programs….BTW, met Peter Jurasik last year, he had fond memories of doing the film.
I hold out hoping they might actually do some good with the sequel, i mean the first Matrix borrowed heavily from it (does anyone think they completely ripped off the opening sequence?) and it still turned out kinda good.
Im sorry but The Matrix, was not "kinda good"……………………………………………………IT WAS EPIC lol
Hey thats funny, my PSN ID is Tron04. But The tron in my ID is part of my name, not the movie.
@ MirrorSoul
Dont get me wrong i like the Matrix and all, but alot of the ideas were repackaged from a collection of other films (even the bullet time effect I saw on a human evolution doco beforehand)…there's nothing wrong with that of course.
The Wachowski brothers weren't shy about admitting to it at least, in fact they mentioned that they deliberately set up certain action sequences to mirror Ghost in the Shell.
did not like tron much
You mean that 8 bit game that I played on Xbox Live? (which sucked IMO)
How is it possible?
absolute fantastic film for its day ..nowadays get sum vr glasses and yur not far from actually being in tron world!!..ps3 power will put us there
