Capcom: Too Many Headaches To Put Online Play In Rearmed

These days, the fans typically demand some form of online multiplayer with their games, even when it comes to downloadable titles. But several of them, on both XBL and the PSN, have experienced a few online issues, and Capcom now says they did the right thing when they opted to keep online play out of Bionic Commando: Rearmed .

According to Gamasutra, Capcom producer Ben Judd said the decision was "the right choice," and reminded us of the digital downloadable titles in the past that have suffered serious online multiplayer drawbacks. In the end, "any additional sales would not have been equivalent to the additional pains" required to input online play for Rearmed . Said Judd:

"After seeing the large amount of headaches, additional production time and cost that comes with adding online, I'm glad we made the choice not to include it."

While we salivate at the possible opportunities missed by leaving online multiplayer out of this game, we certainly understand the sentiment. Not everything needs the online option, and in the end, much of Rearmed 's appeal lies firmly grounded in nostalgia…for the days when online multiplayer simply wasn't possible. The fans likely don't miss it, and like Judd says here, why deal with the extra development headaches if we really don't need it? Makes perfect sense to us.

I'm ashamed to say I haven't played this one, the old one kinda frustrated me. Is it fun?

I think you'll get over it. I played it once. Then I got Fallout 3. I can't see ever playing it again :-/

I found it fun. You get a cool sense of nostalgia playing this game. But if you can't get over the fact that there isn't a jump button you might hate it. That was the main complaint I heard about it. Personally I liked it. The remixed soundtrack is pretty badass.

The first time I played Bionic Commando, I played in my cousin house. Today I live miles away from my cousin, I would love to see an online multiplayer just to remember those old times with my cousin.

i'm glad i picked up this game back when it first came out. I think I've only touched the multiplayer once, and it wasn't really all that. I think the online leader boards are all that was necessary for this game.

While I didn't buy this game, the lack of multiplayer doesn't bother me a bit. Not every game needs to have multiplayer. There are a plethora of games that do, let single players have their games too. Adding multiplayer usually means taking away resources that could have worked on the rest of the game.

Lazy companies don't get my money, If capcom really wants to be a major player they need to step it up. Complaing you can't do something cause it causes major head aches, is just plain sad and extremely lazy.

Not gonna lie, I kinda dislike the fact that video game companies act like they "need" online game play. It's not lazy if they decide not to….it's just superfluous to to so sometimes. It doesn't always work so well, and the single player is really what the main attraction is suppose to be.

I agree online should not be a mandatory thing these days but it seems that is the way some devs look at it. I like playing games with people online but I don't expect it from every game that comes along and sometimes it is an annoying and tacked on pile of garbage (Fable II) I mean when you are playing a game and every 5 minutes or so a screen poops up saying so and so wants to join your game and all you are doing is walking around digging up crap and doing side quests it starts to piss you off especially when it doesn't even make sense to have a second body there. Can you imagine if you were cruising the wasteland tracking down someones brother who likes to eat people and a new screen pulled you away to tell you Bob wants to join? Hell, say you let him and you find said brother and Bob decides his new name is Richard and shoots the brother in the damn head and disconnects? Now you reload. Piss me right off.

While you all are bitching about the lack of online play, I'M bitching about the death of split screen (especially in racing games).
