We're already aware of the makeover Eidos has planned for video game icon Lara Croft , but as you can see, it was initially expected that it would be more of a "family-friendly" renovation. Now, the opposite possibility has arisen.
According to India.com, the new rumor is that the next Tomb Raider installment will be rated "M" for Mature, which would be the first entry in the long-running franchise to earn the more adult-oriented label. It seems Eidos wants to move past the standard "T"-Teen rating in order to re-energize the waning popularity of the busty heroine. Eidos has already laid off 30 employees at Crystal Dynamics and the publisher's shares dropped 25% in one day after they lowered their profit forecast due to lower-than-anticipated sales of Tomb Raider: Underworld . Therefore, they have concluded that Lara definitely needs a revamping of some kind, but we're not entirely sure which direction they're going to go. Will they go for the more family-friendly, less sexy version, or are they simply going to add more blood and skin? These days, it's hard to say which approach will work the best; the Wii rules the earth but many of the best-selling titles on the PS3 and 360 are "M"-rated. Whatever happens, though, it's going to be interesting.
If you don't already know, Alison Carroll – pictured here – is the new model for Lara Croft, and the other rumor is that Megan Fox will replace Angelina Jolie in the next "Tomb Raider" movie. Yeah, we'll keep you updated on anything Lara-related.
THIS is how you sell a tomb raider game in this day and age.
Fore sure. I might see it just to look at her alone haha.
Hope the girl dont mind me watching the movie the WHOLE way threw.;)
Sex and Blood. What else do you need to sell a video game.
Liquor and heroine…
Methamphetamine and a screwdriver? No, no nevermind that's how you disassemble a system and never get it back together.
@Coverton–I thought that was funny.
I think tomb raider has just kinda been played out. Maybe if they make the shooting mechanics more like Drake and make the game play quicker. They could do something like Prince of Persia with guns, but a bit less acrobatic. Or go all the way and be a Prince of Persia shooter coupled with Max Payne.
Or maybe I'm going overboard and all these ideas are shallow..
boooo not worth it Tomb Raider is not what it use 2 be
This would be a smart move.
Oh, and the Wii doesn't rule the world. It's sold a lot, but so have jelly beans.
lol
That was pretty funny.
This is exactly what I recommended on the last TR thread. +10 points to me.
and +10 Bonus Points for bein awesome!
haha i laugh you shatterday
Maybe its time Crystal Dynamics starts working on something new. Drake holds the adventurer crown now, Lara might aswell give it up.
Crystal Dynamics created the fantastic Soul Reaver franchise, love to see a new Soul Reaver game.
I second that, Soul Reaver was awesome
Now I'm definitely not buying it
Overreact much? It's only a rumor.
Yeah the ps3 and 360 is the kind of audience that loves m-rated games

If nothing else, bless you Ben for posting that picture of the lovely Ms. Carroll.
I imagine that going more mature would certainly garner more attention than going family friendly. I'd certainly rather have M rated than E rated. Of course adding a nude code will generate all the sales they could ever hope for, lol.

You're very welcome. 😉
I agree but man it looks like someone had her on her knees without a pillow, look at that scar.
and whats wrong with that?lol
i haven't played the new tomb raider, some people say its good and some people say its bad.. but lets be real peoeple SEX sells!!!!!!! so im not surprised that edios might be thinking about going in this direction..
lol…..
I still believe Lara needs a walker.
She's finished, let's see a Legend of Zelda where the princess straps on a push up bra and goes into battle.
Get some brief topless nudity and you got yourself a winner. Yes, its that easy. Eidos get with the times…
After the next few adventures it seems like she'll have a rack of STD's. There pixels for f**k sake, whats wrong with you?! its not even flesh!

this will sell.
It could work. Bring Lara Croft closer to the chick from Underworld. That might be bad-ass.
Add a mini game where she bangs Kratos and Drake off screen.
Put her in Liberty City and have Packie give her some spelunking missions.
Put her in the Captital Wasteland. There's plenty of tombs there and a home to put your stuff in.
Eidos, do SOMETHING with her…
Next we'll hear that Lara has a machine gun disguised as a strap-on. The TR series is washed up. Can anyone here play "Taps" on the bugle?
Rhona Mitra was the best live Tomb Raider model.
Actually, seeing as how her star is rising these days, if they replace Angelina Jolie in the Tomb Raider movies, maybe they should do so with Rhona Mitra.
happiness 😀
Pssh. Although it would be cool, my bet is that it's all rumour & spec.
Lara Croft definitely needs a reboot. Whether that's with selling croft sex scenes to pewbing teens or just reinventing the character for the next gen. I prefer reinvention honestly. Games don't get enough respect yet (in mass media) to do sexual stuff.
@ opsdaddy
too too toooo, too too toooo; aww crap, I tried.
Cant beat.
@ SHADOW – your comment says it all. TR was sexy in its prime.
Alison Carroll is HoT!! =D
After playing the TR: Underworld demo, I don't really see why anyone would buy it anyway. It's obvious they are already focusing on sex rather than actual gameplay.
