Yesterday, the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) announced the nominees for the 12th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards. For our part, we're very glad to see one of last year's most impressive and innovative titles take home the most number of nominations (10): LittleBigPlanet .
Media Molecule's excellent platformer was nominated for the prestigious Overall Game of the Year and Console Game of the Year awards, along with 8 others, and that's fantastic news. Other multiple nominees include Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots , Gears of War 2 , Fallout 3 , and Left 4 Dead , but with 10 total nominations, LBP is the toast of the industry. This is not the SpikeTV video game awards; this is the equivalent of the Academy Awards for our industry, and this kind of reception from the AIAS is amazing. Said AIAS president, Joseph Olin:
"This was an exciting year for games. The depth of talent and creativity in this industry continues to amaze me and we are honored to highlight some of the most impressive games of the year at the Interactive Achievement Awards. The 2009 nominees indeed reflect a stronghold of talent embodying the best and brightest in this field."
You can check out the press release and the link that takes you to the full list of nominees at PRNewsWire . The awards ceremony will be held during the D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Summit 2009, which takes place on February 19 at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas. Actor, comedian, and "proud game enthusiast," Jay Mohr, will return for his fourth year to host the ceremony. Good luck to LBP and all the nominees; if you're on these lists, you did somethin' good in the previous year.
Related Game(s): LittleBigPlanet
Well, LBP deserves it, that's for sure. It is too easy to get sucked into that game, it has been a long time that since I have played a game that makes me lose track of time like LBP does.
LBP is for everyone and I think that is what makes the game so appealing. I wonder what Media Molecule is going to do next.
Finally recognition.
thats what i'm talking about. oh yea.
that's good, i love the game.
Oh god Why Gears it's horrible GO GO LITTLE BIG PLANET!!
Gears is a brilliant game. I'm very sure you haven't played it properly or even played it at all.
in response to that; Yay.
Did you know that the Burnout Developers, Fable Developers, and LBP Developers live in the same town in England. Thats one cool place to live near lol.
I live a 4 miles away from there, its called guildford. I'm gonna do work experience at EA
The little platformer that could 🙂
Aaaaaaahhhhhhh, poor x-box fanboys, your much loved gears of war 2 game didnt make the overall game of the year list. Not 1 but 2 Playstation exclusives on that list. Hmm, might be a sign of things to come.
