Sometimes, analysts will get information long before game journalists do, simply because the video game industry is indeed a business . So perhaps we can put some stock in Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter's Assassin's Creed 2 prediction.
Not long after the original released to widespread critical acclaim, Ubisoft refused to confirm a sequel and said it would have a lot to do with "fan feedback." In other words, if enough people wanted a sequel, they'd delver one. Well, the whispers of AC2 have begun to flit across the Internet over the past few months, and now, in a note to investors yesterday, Pachter says to expect Assassin's Creed 2 to launch "before the end of the company's 2010 Fiscal Year." If you're not aware, that runs between April 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010. The note, according to the MTV Multiplayer blog, reads as follows:
"We believe investors should focus on Ubisoft’s prospects for FY:10, particularly as its products continue to sell well on the strong Wii and DS platforms, and as it rolls out a suberb [sic] lineup. We expect solid year-over-year growth from the casual (Nintendo) games lineup, with the introduction of two new brands next fall, and expect strong revenue contribution from Assassin’s Creed 2, Splinter Cell Conviction and Avatar next fiscal year."
For those of you who completed Creed , you know it ended with a huge cliffhanger, so it would make perfect sense to produce a sequel. We're also very interested in the oft-delayed Splinter Cell: Conviction , which initially began its life as an Xbox 360 exclusive but should now be coming to the PlayStation 3 as well. Ubisoft is capable of churning out some top-quality products, so we'll keep a close eye on both titles in the coming months. All we really want is an AC2 confirmation…
I was shocked with the ending of AC and I hope that the sequel will deliver. I need to know that they will improve some of the weaker aspects of AC, especially the repetitiveness, before I purchase the game.

Note to Goldenshadow…..all games are repetitive.
I realize that, but some games are more repetitive than others. For me the repetitiveness caused me to get bored after playing for more then a couple ours at a time; it took me 2 months to finish the game.
I am not going to put down the game because I enjoyed playing it in small doses, but I know I would have enjoyed it more if the story pattern wasn't just completing the same things over again in different places.
Other than that I have gripes about the game; some of the repetitiveness was even fun, as every time that I took a leap of faith I had to hold my breath.
You sound like you are struggling to like AC. I liked being put in the shoes of an old world assassin. The mission stucture required you to use imagination when attacking. Some stuff worked, some didn't, I find that in all games.
Overall AC planted me in another place and time the same as Dead Space. Nobody complained of repetiveness in Dead Space but I thought it was more so than AC.
Don't let everybody tell you what a game is…..sometimes a game is what YOU make of it.
Far Cry 2 is another example of a great sandbox game if you have imagination or a boring repetitive game if you just follow staight lines to objects.
Just for the sake of clarity, I did not have to struggle to enjoy AC. All I am saying is that when the sequel comes out, I would enjoy it more if it wasn't as repetitive in that way, and I know I am not alone.
As to what you said about not letting everybody tell me what a game is, I did not change the way I felt about the game because of how others did. For me the difference between AC and other games that may be as repetitive, is playability, and I had to play in small segments of time. Whereas other somewhat repetitive games, like Dead Space for you, may have more or less playability. It is an attribute that is can change from person to person.
Goldenshadow I totally agree with you.I actually had to push myself to finish the game. Sorry to say, it was one of the worst purchases I have ever made. The game was polished and graphically impressive, just not my cup of tea.

It seems this will always be one of those games everbody either loves or hates. Just for the record I loved it and can't wait for AC2.
Great name Evilincarnate….(smiles).
I have to agree i loved it i literly spent 1 hour on every area and made sure i did everything before i cared out the mission. than the bonus came when i just start hunting for Temp.Army and flag hunting. o and figuring out the hiding message in the e-mails..for the record there was a bit of repetitiveness. but still cant wait for AC2
I felt Ubi made the first quater of the game from scratch, but for the remaining quarters they copied and pasted from the first quarter.
Patcher has said on the GameTrailers 'Bonus Round' that AC will be set in the 17th century, possibly set in the American Civil War or another civil war which I think Patcher said French?
This will be a must miss unless they completely overhaul the game.
I totally agree with you. The first game was one of the few games that havent lived up to their hype this generation. A good game but not a classic in any sense of the word. I'll pass for now thanks.
Don't agree. I believe the first AC sold very well and the sequel will probably be a better experience due to what the developement team has learned.
I loved this game and cant wait for the sequel. Sure it was repetative but the story was great. Maybe its cause my religion or whatever but i thought being able to wander around jerusalem and the really neat twist to the biblical stories of how they parted the red sea and stuff was really clever.
The ending was the biggest cliff hanger ive ever experienced to. I was sorta dissapointed when i seen the credits roll cause the plot got REALLY thick at the end and then WHAM !! they end it on you leaving me thinking WTF!!
However i do have to say the game was really buggy for me. I had some frame rate issues and it was always freezing up on me. I hope they keep the over all mission setup the same and the free roaming, just give it more work.
Im curious how the next one will play though because in the end of the first AC they got the info they wanted so does that mean we wont get to experience going back in time? Id have to think its gonna be based in the real world and not so much back in history.
Sorry for the length, ive just bin waiting for this game since the day i beat the first one. I just hope they keep the over all feel and gameplay relatively the same but more polished and refined.
I really enjoyed this game. Repetition aside, the controls are very solid and extremly fluid. And the idea/story is very deep. The ending, to me anyway, seems to want to play with you to think more about our own mortality and how finite our own existence is.
Anyways, the ending seems to be a teaser for a sequel. Too many clues left unaswered. The idea to make a sequel based on responses from gamers, i dont buy it.
I don't buy it because they would have had to start on the second one right away to have it done this year. I think it was just somebody poking us with a stick to see what we say (sales projection purposes maybe?)
I may look at this game, like I will for Unchartered, now that they are in their second generation releases; everything about both games will be much improved… I wish I had waited for MotorStorm 2 rather than having bought the first one etc… Killzone 2 though, is a sure winner in its first iteration…
Q!
"i aM hOMe"
Correct me if im wrong, are you saying you only buy sequels of new IP's?

I loved AC & can't wait for the sequel. Although it was repetative everything else seemed pretty solid to me. Also it was one of the first games out on next gen consoles. It'll be amazing to see what they can do from what all they've learned thus far. Make it bigger, add puzzles, & the usage of some gadgets instead of all weapons would be great for a start. And OH…. can anyone tell me where the hell the crossbow went or am I just overlooking something!?
I noticed that to. I never picked up a cross bow either. The videos were kinda missleading werent they? lol
Yes the crossbow was missing but the knife throwing made up for it…love those long distance stealth kill knife throws, never gets old.
Wasnt just me than. I sprawled all over the game to try to find that cool crossbow. Yes, the intro video was totally missleading. Oh well, small issue. Maybe the possible sequel could add nite/day cycle like gta 4; and weather. Yeeeeeah
its nice to know im not the only one who thought this game was in the words of Dudley of SF3 "Gutter Trash"
The sequel should b less about altier and be set in the timeframe the main character. I would be nice to play it in both modern and historic settings.
I am finally getting around to playing throught the first one.. pretty sweet so far.
I dont want to start nothing negative but I didn't enjoy this game. It needs hookers, o wait this isn't GTA! lol! just imagine if Assassins Creed had GTA-like abilities like jacking peoples horses and getting a paint job for your horse! lmaol! put some rims on your horse feet, now that sounds fun!
what this game needed was to be fun, which it wasn't
maybe because you couldn't wrap you lil mind around the story
Heeeey! I see Pachter is really getting paid predicting all kinds of sh**
Anyways;
Off topic:Like Ben said recently, journalists embarassing the industry, here's a typical one from Eurogamer.
This what he said in response to Hirai's comments about 360 lacking longevity;
"Yesterday, you may recall, Hirai declared that Sony is the "official" industry leader. Even though they haven't sold as many consoles as Nintendo (who is not a competitor because they make machines for playing videogames on, not machines for playing videogames and other things like films on). Or Microsoft. And didn't sell as many last week and aren't this week and let's face it probably won't next week."
How deep in the blood that's the fanboyism flow?
I didn't enjoy the first one and I don't think I'll get the second. The game just… ahem, how should I put this… Bored me, immensely.
Pachter's a twat it's too early, why predict AC2? what about Armoured Core For Answer for crying out loud.
LOL Please repetitive I Enjoy repetitive games HECK is playing through Devil May Cry 40X repetitive is DBZ Tenkaichi 2 repetitive NO
IT'S RIDICULOUS repetition is EVERYWHERE! you can't escape from it
YEA…what he Said!! Why are we YELLING NOW?
Hmm, even though I didn't dig the game I think it's interesting that there is debate over it. It was certainly a step forward early on in this gen and sales do speak. But I still think a second iteration needs to address certain tedious aspects.
You know, Assassin's Creed was one of the few big AAA 3rd party titles that I've actually picked up and played all the way through and loved… and wouldn't you know it, everyone else hates it…
-Arvis
Lve the game and the guy looks like me with the hood on.
very boring for me, had to push myself to finish it but overall it got a positive reaction from me….there's a lot of room for improvement and I'm sure the developers are aware of this collective reaction from gamers about the REPETITIVENESS
i would be looking forward for AC2
KAWABANGA CANT WAIT motherf******s
medicore game, very repetetive. After 5th asassin mission I trade it for something else…
What pissed me off is that there was only one way for assassination. Personally I'm waiting for another Hitman – there, you could at least plan your assasination, chose a place, right tools to do it… Plus they need to fix framerate issues.
