Today, MTV has announced the second coming of a successful gaming-oriented week, dubbed "Gamer's Week 2.0." Scheduled to begin the week of November 13, all MTV on-air and online screens across MTV, games.mtv.com , MTV2, mtvU, Xfire, and GameTrailers will showcase the latest and most popular in the realm of video game culture, developers, competitions, music, news, and hardware through "innovative short and long form video game programming."
Gamer's Week 2.0 will provide both the hardcore and casual gaming fans with inside access to all kinds of goodies, like special shows, free giveaways, and other surprises.
"We are excited to showcase the revolutionary hardware and games that will shape the future of gaming during Gamer’s Week 2.0 and present the content through exciting and creative short and long form programming across all of our platforms," said Brian Graden, President of Entertainment, MTV Networks Music Group and President of Logo. "Video games are front and center in the minds of the MTV viewers, especially with the launches of PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii, the continued success of Xbox 360, and the onslaught of amazing new titles this upcoming holiday season, and we intend to bring it all directly to our audience."
Most every program, like TRL, will have a new focus for the week. For example, on Monday, TRL will send one lucky fan to tour around with the All-American Rejects, talking and playing video games. On Wednesday, Tony Hawk will surprise one fan by showing up at his house to play Downhill Jam on the Nintendo Wii, then goes out back to skate on the kid's half-pipe. On Thursday, they'll give away an outrageously rare PS3 to a gamer who manages to play the new system on MTV's 44-inch screen in Times Square for 24 hours straight…no stopping, no sleeping. How bad do you want that PS3, again?
And that's just a small taste. Check out MTV or any one of its broadcast affiliates next week for Gamer's Week 2.0.
