Realistically speaking, not many really believed Final Fantasy XIII would be available in North America this year. But even so, a few of us had our fingers crossed.
According to Reuters, Square-Enix president Yoichi Wada has said that FFXIII will indeed release this year…but only in Japan. It will come to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in other major regions "in the fiscal year beginning April 2010." Wada moved on to speak about the financial status of his company, and it appears the profits for this fiscal year will drop 21 billion yen (that's about $236 million) in comparison to last year. It's a 2.4% decline, but you needn't concern yourself with the publisher's position; Dragon Quest IX for the DS will release in Japan this March and instantly sell about 10 trillion copies. As for FFXIII, we're just really annoyed that PS3 owners have to wait for a completed game just because Square-Enix wants a simultaneous PS3/360 launch in North America. We have no problem whatsoever with the game coming to the 360; it'll likely be an inferior version, anyway, and even if it's not, more gamers should get a shot at an awesome title. The problem is that S-E has said they won't even start on the 360 version until the PS3 one is complete, which means PS3 owners have to wait . Why?
Well, whatever the reason, we won't be seeing FFXIII 'round these parts, on any platform, until 2010. That's the long and short of it. Unfortunately, this must mean Final Fantasy Versus XIII , which is exclusive to the PS3, must be even further behind.
Related Game(s): Final Fantasy XIII
This sucks! Worst news all year.
I'm boycotting this game. Its clear SE don't want my money despite being a HUGE Final Fantasy fan and a loyal supporter of their products over the years.
Whose with me?
No. I may disagree with their business practices, but I'm not about to deprive myself of something like FFXIII because of it.
No let are japanese brothers take care of them, i doubt there reputation will remain the same after ff13.

@Ben: Well, the decision was a tough one for me but Im sticking by it. Ive bought all the FF games since FFVII and half the reason why I bought a ps3 at launch was because of FFXII being an exclusive at the time (the other part of the reason was for MGS4). I kinda felt burnt by SE, so much so that the burning feeling now overrides my desire for the game.
I'll live without their game and SE will live without my money.
I also cant imagine that the quality of the game is not going to suffer at all because of the Xbox360 capabilities becoming a constraint.
Fair enough. I just can't imagine doing that.
@chicko1983
I'm with you, I have no plans of purchasing this game.
it's kinda funny, i have no idea about FF13 and no idea what the ff series is like, no ps2 or ps1 counts for that. so i'm not upset. i can wait. for me it's just another aclaimed sequel. not that i don't take interest. i had similar views on mgs4. then i bought it. one of my fave games this gen.
@ chicko, fine fine, what you wanna do is what you wanna do, but missing out on good games seems a little rash of you. but you have your reasons. even if i think they are slightly mundane

@Zorigo: Think of it as a protest similar to someone who won't wear a fur garment because of the clothing manufacturer's bad business practice of supporting the fur trade.
This will be my protest against SE and their bad business practice and poor treatment of (once) loyal supporters.
Even if noone follows me AND the game is great, I still feel SE have treated people badly, at least me anyway, and I wont support them.
I see that a good way to make SE change their business practice is to boycott this game. Hence, I wouldn't think that my reason is "mundane" – quite the opposite actually, especially if I am the minority.
Who cares about waiting now that I think of it. It will probobly be some shitty game anyway. I havn't seen any gameplay. When GTA IV was announced and I saw the trailers, I thought it would be the best game yet. Too bad it was one of the shittest games I've played.
I hear ya, chicko. I say quit paying people to screw you over. In the end, if it's a title you really wanted, it's more of a sacrifice for you than it is for the corporation that makes it…but it's the principal of the thing. "You've clearly indicated that you don't give a damn about what I want, but here's 60 bucks anyway." WTF?!!?
But, suppose they have a good reason for releasing in America. Doesn't Japan-to-America localization take quite a while, especially if it's a really long game with lots of dialog/text?
@ Troy: Firstly, thanks.
Yeah, localisation used to take a while but with all the evidence of worlwide simultaneous releases in this generation I dont think that it takes as long these days (for whatever reason).
I would think that the porting, from ps3 to xbox360 especially, would take longer than the localisation. Plus the translation will be done before the port as they said the ps3 version would be finished before they start porting.
yea chicko im with you on this one. tyhe only way that square will realize that they are messing up BIG time with their fans is by not supporting them anymore. i already swore i wasnt gonna get this game awhile ago and they have done absolutely nothing to change my mind since.
versus comes out like 2013 lol, yeah not fun, i might pick 13 up, unless mag comes out bout the same time, but for now wkc will do just fine
Worst.News.Ever.
Well I have waited years for this game, an extra half a year behind japan is not that bad in comparison.
I'm a little disappointed in that news but its not really surprising. They are probably holding the PS3 version back so they don't alienate the 360 gamers maybe? Since they are trying to build a base with them…..who knows….. as long as its good I don't care.
no more like making 360 fans there priority. and so far they are
Is this the longest we have waited for an FF sequel? They probably thought we'd rejoice and throw confetti and f*ck each other six ways from Sunday in the streets with an actual release "schedule" but the big news here let's face it is the F-you to us.
There exists no gamer anywhere that could be happy about their game sitting in a box while the dev ports it to someone who didn't even bother to buy the system it was supposed to be exclusive for in the first place. If they held up a M$ release like that I would feel bad for the gamers getting the shaft. It's completely indefensible and forgive my candor but no decent gamer can say different.
That said, I was never among the crowds who said they wouldn't get it now and I'm still looking forward to the game but no thoughtful person would advise this move in the first place, $236 million down the crapper because they decided to only put out games to a crowd that never wanted them in the first place.
Rant over, unfortunately for them Pandora can't go back into the box – she only comes out

I would have no problems with this if we had some rpg's to play but we don't, as shooters are getting VERY BORING. The 360 boys have Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, and Star Ocean 4, and Tales of Vesperia to hold them over…Square-Enix are really getting on my last nerves
lol I encourage everyone to get the Japanese version instead, look at it this way:
1-You'll support the Japanese side of things meaning that you probably won't support Squeeeeeeeeenix's Western expansion garbage.
2. The game will be translated in many sites, of that I'm sure.
3. Learn some Japanese it will help you when looking for a job and is good for you for the future.
4. You'll have it this year all FRESH and EARLY :3
So getting it this year
Though the character designs are horrible……
Have you guys seen that new "black" guy?
Wow talk 'bout digging deep into stereotypes.
And here I though Barrett couldn't be topped.
not a bad idea. id love to learn japanese.
Hmmm… no need to be pissed of about this. I mean S-E has brought only disappoint to me in the past few years – so this? Expected and no disappointed as a matter of fact I'm impressed they actually gave a "rough" date for the release.
Ill order one from japan then. I just hope they include subtitles in english 😀
It will be pretty hard to believe ff13 and versus won't be worth the ridiculously long wait but I have faith. No more bad news, please!
Oh and NightHawk, we have Valkuria Chronicles m8.
Well I feel the slight need to punch something but I'm sure that feeling should pass… over the months…
At least we have a bunch of great titles this year to tide us over… I hope.
FFXIII better be the best FF of all time after making us wait so long…LOL
surpass 7 never, and don't think this is gona be a good game
Well just hope they get it over with, but I am still very excited for ffv13, I just hope that if they ever get to remake ff7 it will be exclusive though the way is going i highly doubt it.
………
again?
AGAIN?
MOVING ON — I'm not worried about this game. In all honesty, f@ck this game all together and SE. They are taking TOO LONG to release the god damn thing. We got enough exclusives and multi-platform games to enjoy while they take their sweet ass time to release XIII here. Whatever man. I'm done with SE.
I hear ya Ace!
I'm so pissed off man. I can't go to sleep. I bet they're pushing it back because 360's stupid ass hardware is going to take time.
They even stated that they want to port the game as fast as possible to US and PAL but they're not doing it. One freaking year? Come on man. We waited too long for this. God WTF. I'd love to have FF XIII with English Subtitles, I'm okay with that.
Argh ……
They didn't say it would take a year, just that it would be in 2010 instead of 2009.
And if you meant another year from now, did you really expect it to be sooner than November, given that they're just showing to the public now?
What's wrong with you people!??????????????
Get the Japanese version
Only speak engrish.
Another year :(, well it better be on par with 7 – 10 or im just going to give up buying new games.
well if it doesnt have Eng. subs. the japanesse version wont be very fun……… i tiired playing Dissidia in Japanesse…. had no idea what was going on…
Well isn't this a surprise? Really, who ever thought that Square Enix would disappoint us yet again…
The sad part is that back in the day I had such admiration for this company, but the last few years it just seemed that they lost that magic they had with the rpg's on Ps1 and it's gotten to the point where I would much rather look forward to a Level 5 rpg like White Knight's Chronicle.
If indeed there is one shred of goodness left in Square then we'll get english subtitles in the Jap version, otherwise, this bloody sucks!
I would like to know why this continues to happen. It's usually not the poster's fault… Sometimes, you do have to wait a few seconds before it's posted so it may have something to do with patience, but I don't know.
lol, i think i counted 47 times…..wow
Sweet! Somebody get Shadow on this guy xD
>=]
lol…WOW…Shadow's gonna be sooooo annoyed.
lol this happen to me once but I went back and deleted all of them.
hmmmm will FFXIII release before the world comes to an end?
The world depends on when I decide to end it.
It seems that SE is trying to create an epic FF game ensamble for this gen. they have 3 games in dev for FFXIII. I wonder if how far they are in development of FFXIII versus.
I know Square-Enix bashing has become trendy lately, but come on guys. This is getting ridiculous.
"As for FFXIII, we're just really annoyed that PS3 owners have to wait for a completed game just because Square-Enix wants a simultaneous PS3/360 launch in North America….The problem is that S-E has said they won't even start on the 360 version until the PS3 one is complete, which means PS3 owners have to wait. Why?"
It is true that S-E has said they won't start on the 360 version until the PS3 version is complete, but what everyone seems to be completely ignoring is the fact that they have *also* said they aren't going to start on the translation until the Japanese version is complete. That's right: They have not even started translating this game, and translating an RPG of this size is no small task. Incidentally, this is the same reason we aren't getting a demo with AC:C, and nobody who's been paying attention should have been surprised by that fact.
Now you can rightfully criticize S-E for giving lower priority to the international release than the Japanese release, but Why does everyone act like there is going to be a complete English PS3 version of this game sitting around waiting for the 360 port? If the Japanese version isn't ready until a holiday 2009 release (likely), then getting the English translation done by April is actually about as fast as one could reasonably expect.
Has anyone considered that the fact that they have to wait for the translation anyway is the whole reason they decided on a simultaneous PS3/360 release in the west?
We're not considering it. When you port a freaking game from one system to another, and your talking about CELL vs. Xenon, it is going to take some time. Their excuse is that they won't be able to release it till next year, but they hide the truth about the long development for the 360. It's COMMON SENSE. They're trying to do business since MS paid them LARGE SUMS of money to make sure the game gets ported to that crappy ass system AND to release the game the same time the PS3 gets released.
Here's the good news if 360 wasn't in the plan, the game would have been here in Fall of 2009. People effing know this. Porting games from 360 to PS3 and PS3 to 360 is a nightmare. I wonder now if they're going to push the PS3 to the limit, knowing the graphics on the PS3 freaking pwns the living hell out of the 360. Go compare games like Heavy Rain and K2 and even FF XIII which the gameplay you see is all on PS3, to the best games the 360 has.
MS needs to go bankrupt, they want to be part of EVERYTHING to screw things up. And this generation is not a very good generation with a retarded ass company like them.
I wonder, how do you 'effing know' that? S-E has been saying for years (long before the 360 port was announced) that there wouldn't be a simultaneous release and at the rate they're going they'll be lucky to get the Japanese version out before the end of the year. But hey, never let facts get in the way of a good bitch.
If the Japanese version comes out in December and the US version comes out in April that is actually a *very* fast turn-around time. I'm actually skeptical about the date for that reason. I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually going to be later than that.
