We recently ran an article that warned readers against misinterpreting opinion as facts because apparently, only loud-mouthed fanboys get any sort of attention in the realm of so-called video game journalism. Typically, the world of gaming news continues forward in much the same way it always has; we scan around, field the press releases in our inbox, try to find interesting scoops online, etc, etc, etc. But the recent trend, which apparently began with a new rash of PS3 hate – fueled entirely by jealousy – has assaulted the Internet, and we're already feeling the negative effects. You know, when narrow-minded idiots make certain inane proclamations in an ill-advised attempt to present their opinion as fact, everyone suffers. Now, they're actually trying to prove a point with completely irrelevant statistics!
Okay, here's a concept that everyone – everyone – needs to comprehend and accept. The Xbox 360 launched one year before the PlayStation 3. It has a larger user base. Depending on the source you use, Sony has sold between 18 and 20 million PS3s and Microsoft has sold between 26 and 28 million 360s. Now, we won't bother to show the obvious closing of the gap in the past two years; we'd rather stick to the point: when there are 8-10 million more of one particular console out there, the sales numbers for the corresponding software will reflect that gap. Therefore, this isn't anything like comparing the software sales between systems with equal user bases, and that instantly alters the numbers. This is fact #1. Here's fact #2: evidently, the only argument the Xbox loyalists have left revolves around sales numbers . And they're desperately trying to cling to it like a drowning fanboy clings to the life raft that's moments away from heading over the waterfall (God, if only).
Obviously, nothing else matters. No other aspect of the system comes into play. Blu-Ray doesn't matter. A free PlayStation Network doesn't matter. PlayStation Home doesn't matter. Faaaar better reliability doesn't matter. Hell, even the games don't matter. Has anyone been able to locate an equally retarded anti-PS3, pro-360 article that even mentions games? Hell, and here I was thinking that this industry is all about the damn games . According to just about every last major publication on earth, the best games of 2008 were MGS4, GTAIV, Gears of War 2 , LittleBigPlanet , Left 4 Dead , Fallout 3 , Resistance 2 , Fable II , Valkyria Chronicles , Dead Space , and Devil May Cry 4 . Sure, it's subjective, but I doubt most normal, unbiased gamers will disagree with that list. I see four PS3 exclusives, three 360 exclusives, and a bunch of multiplats; none of which were superior on the 360. And looking into 2009…yeah, we all know the PS3 has a gigantic advantage. We won't list off the games again. But let's just say that most all the games everyone is talking about right now – Killzone 2, God of War III, Gran Turismo 5 – are PS3 exclusives, and the others are multiplats. Are there any 360 exclusives that are in the impending spotlight? Seriously… any at all?
But hey, why should that matter to video game journalists? Why bother to use statistics that will equal out the argument? No, let's just include those that support our end of the argument, because the truth of the matter is, we're either high school or college kids pretending to be "journalists" but failing to cover up the obvious bias. Yeah, MGS4 has been "pushed" into the background. Sure, why even bother to entertain the notion that it outstrips anything on the 360? I'm not saying it does , but I guess sales are all that matter. Yeah, Prologue was just a demo so it must've sucked and GT5 might not come out until 2010…which immediately means it's not ever coming out, so who cares. LBP didn't perform so well in sales…despite selling 1.3 million copies so far (and despite a typically terrible Sony advertising campaign) and scoring higher on average than every last 360 game in 2008 with the exception of GeoW2. Blu-Ray? Yeah, who needs high-def movies and games? The Network is free but we'd rather pay for what amounts to the same service these days.
Reliability? Bah. Just because everyone you talk to says they're on their 63rd 360 doesn't mean anything! Hey, just as a final question; something to chew on here: that 8-10 million gap in user base…how many of those sold 360s are second, third, and fourth purchases from the same consumer because their previous console crapped out? I know warranties and the like will take care of some of them, but they can't possibly take care of all of them. Anyway, we apologize for the rant, but we're getting sick and tired of the irresponsible, horrendously biased, and completely unprofessional "articles" that we're seeing online.
You know, this is the reason why I'm oftentimes embarrassed to say I'm a video games reporter amongst other journalists. Because children , like the ones at Gaming Target, screw me over .

Yeesh! A little too premature don't you think? How can the PS3 be "Done" if it's still getting AAA games in 2010?(if the GodOfWar3 Q1 2010 is to be believed) Who can really ignore 20 mil PS3s and probably another 10 mil more for 2009 if the PS3 coninues its 10 mil a year trend? High profile games are going to continue on the PS3 for at least another 3 years I believe. Done? Not by a longshot.
PS3 i think is around 22m consoles sales worldwide by december 2008. X360 at the same time in its lifecycle was at 16m last year.

ps3 will win the console war when the price drops to 200$. sales will ignite with a 300$ price tag and KZ2

The numbers that were thrown around during CES was 28mil 360 vs 20mil PS3 shipped as of the end of 2008. Out of the 28mil from 360, take out 5 mil which was from its 1st year. That leaves you 23 mil. That 23 mil is actually the 360's sales at the same time the PS3 has been out. So if you compare the two consoles, the 360 has sold close to 3 mil more than the PS3 at the same time frame. This is all besides the point though. The main thing is the PS3 has sold enough consoles and will continue selling. There is just no way developers would ignore millions of gamers ready to buy great games especially with the lineup for 2009.
PS3 or should I say Sony has alot of haters, most of them are 360 fanboys PERIOD, who defend there old outdated system!

….I am up in arms with you Ben….Shit like that makes every GOOD gaming publication Site or Magazine look very biased and bad, WTF the PS3 is a faliure of a system……yet Sony has sold 19 million of them DESPITE the price.Yes I will admit I dont believe Sony can truly catch up with the 360 install base until thwy hit the magic $250 price tag but dammit they are far from Dead. Sony has hickuped a little in this generation by letting the PS3 run on the BrandName itself for the first full year thus not generating the sale they would of wanted but they now are in a stronger position and are ready to kick ASSS!!!
….This guy has a major confusion between OPINION and FACT, Screw him Im just gonna laugh at it because when you ask anyone around name 3 great games that you will only find on XBOX 360 thats not Halo, or Gears (even though we all know Gears is on PC already and Halo will be in another year or so) they begin to think…..and the think pretty damn hard and admit to me that I have a point.
….Just to wrap all this up PS3 is here to stay, and with Halo running dry, and Microsoft not having many other Big Name Exclusive comparable to names such as GOD of War, Grand Tourismo, Uncharted, Twisted Metal, Metal Gear Solid, along with others that will make there debute within the next year and a half and the economy where it is thus ensuring me that the next generation of consules will be put off till 2011 – 2012 at the least, Sony will eventually have that BIG BOOM of sales we all have been waiting for, and I can trust you this will all begin with KillZone 2

shodow you back . though I agree with murdi and you can't say the same about me. well anyway you wan't to see why this fanboyism is reached limits, go to the playstation youtube channel, there is one guy that has devoted his life literally to post anti ps3 comments (every minute or so he post a new comment all directly attacks on ps3,he goes on with this from 8am to 3pm I have checked, so far 7/30/365 he changes his account every month to avoid getting in trouble) I am sure our side does the same. oh joshua should be given one last chance to redeem himself.
You at least participate within the community if you want to talk mess about Josh go for it (EDIT: within limits obviously). I just don't like someone who posts a comment once a month or so calling for someone to be banned. And as I've said before I don't think a stupider group of people exists than that of the "Youtube commenters"

It seems like half of what people call news these days is editorials of game "journalists" spouting their opinions on which console they like better as "facts" and you can see it everywhere with them writing entire articles devoted to talking about their own blatant fanboyism….the saddest part is that this is the kind of stuff that holds us all back this idealogical ignorance, being an intelligent gamer is hard because we seem to have this annoying, whiny, biased sibling that we'll always be associated with no matter how much more mature we are….

What really pisses me off are all the bloggers (like the guy who wrote that article about the ps3 being dead) being confused with real journalists like the great people at PSXE. Why get so worked up over what some low rent blogger has to say about anything? It is the curse of N4G, really. Even the most worthless websites and worst articles get undeserved attention because fanboys hype up any article they can no matter whether the website in question has credibility or not.
In short; who really cares what fanboys have to say about anything? If a real website (i.e. not some stupid blog or confirmed fanboy cesspool … like this one) actually posts something, then get angry. Just think, if N4G didn't exist most of these lame ass wannabe blogs wouldn't even exist.
