It's really the only visible drawback in Killzone 2 , and despite any erroneous reports you may have heard, Guerilla has no plans to implement a co-op campaign.
Although most realize that this feature won't be included in the game, multiple sources have hinted at the possibility of an upcoming patch that would deliver co-op play for the hotly anticipated shooter. But thanks to a PSU interview with game director Mathijs de Jonge, the rumors have been dispelled and we have the final word: no, it's just not coming. Said de Jonge-
"Currently there are no plans for co-op in Killzone 2. Technically it would be quite difficult to implement it for the story mode as for example the mission sections are loaded in seamlessly no loading screens , and that would cause issues with teleporting players. Even without co-op its still a big game and gamers will have plenty to sink their teeth into."
Yeah, one has to realize that KZ2 isn't exactly like other games, and we get the feeling that Guerilla doesn't want to do anything that might cause the overall quality of Killzone 2 to drop. The big question is, would you rather have a somewhat inferior co-op mode, or would you rather it not exist in the first place? The bottom line is that the single-player mode will be plenty epic, and the online multiplayer should satisfy even the most hardcore FPS fan. You needn't worry about that. Just don't expect co-op, 'cuz KZ2 ain't gonna have it. You can't get everything , you know.

Ye got my issue of OPM:UK, its a 9.
Jeez…now I see why the outside world thinks all gamers are anti-social rejects. Does anyone have a friend that could come over to play some games? Or is gaming doomed to live up to all of the stereotypes?
Its like 95% of the people on this site don't like offline co-op. Sure split-screen is small, but alot of people have big 40 inch+ screens this generation. I personally have a 60 in, and I love playing Army of 2.
There is definantly a shortage of games that you can play with a local friend. One thing that makes gaming so fun is the bond that comes from the teamwork. Can you say that about any old reject you meet online.
Hell most of you can agree that in atleast Every other lobby or team there is atleast one punk that screws up the team or rotation. I understand some of you don't have friends, but com'on people. Those of you who say you "hate" offline co-op really need help.

What are you guys talking about…I don't understand much Computer lingo
lol…Quoted For Truth
Gotcha
Ive got a 40'' and still feel uncomfortable playin Coop. Too small.
I hate it when ppl try to take a great game and knock it b/c it doesn't have some kind of mode or feature in it. Killzone 2 obvious is a single-player 1st person experience. Why f' that up with co-op? If u want co-op, buy a co-op game.
In a game like Killzone 2, I don't care much for co-op. I love singleplayer experiences, mostly because my friends don't really know much about upcoming games so they probably won't get this one.
But still, co-op is fun though, like Mercs 2.
Leaving out coop play at this time is an excusable ommission for now. But, I sure hope it can be patched in at a later date. I was initially not very receptive to coop play as an IDEA, but R2 and COD: WaW changed my mind about it. Done right, it can dramatically enhance a gaming experience for the better.
I was hoping this game would have offline co-op but disappointed by a shooter yet again. Oh well, still a must buy for me.
i had high hopes to play this game in co-op with family and friends. good thing i waited on pre-order,im letting this one slide until it goes down on price. $60 bucks is too much for a game with no co-op IMO,(i dont care for online play)….
Good for you! Stick to your guns, man!
HELL NO! WE WANT CO(-op)!!!
lol
This is a bummer. No offline or online coop? Does the game even have some type of splitscreen? This is not about knocking the game, it's about giving gamers more options. The fact that GG couldn't deliver an option that is present in many other shooters is dissapointing. It's still a day one purchase though. At least there's something to look forward to in Killzone 3.

indeed hope fully they have a new kz3 by 2011 with coop and online vehicles
every one thought CoD4 was great even with those features gone…. i guess its not the same though right?
@aaronisbla
CoD4 at least had offline splitscreen multiplayer. I'm pretty sure u knew that.
People are makin waay to much fuss over this Co-op thing. I haven't played though Co-op mode completely for W@W or Resistance 2 and I love the 2! I guess Im the only 1 that can hold my own online…???
please psu don't talk about this co-op feature no more until gg decide to implement it, because some gamers going to start to compare kz2 no co-op to other games. I love yall ben Im not bashing yall I love this site I guess I just want the game to comeout already.
ugh! that sucks! Now I'm seriously considering passing on this game!
Lol jk, but that really is a shame. KZ2 coop would be unbelievably awesome! And if it's true that coop might make the game inferior to what it is capable of now, then I guess it's a good idea.. 'sigh'
you guys can't know what may happend in future, however i agree that it lacks a hell lot of small things, such as customizable online characters ,splits screen of any sort, i was hoping that it would at least have 40plr but it is your average 32plr. this things realy dimunize its value but no matter. 50something trophys, awsome graphics, great sounds and great gameplay still puts it at top.
Don't care about co-op I play games by myself. I think the absence of it and maybe some other unnecessary features is that it's not yet a proven huge franchise. If KZ2 makes 5M then you can expect KZ3 to be bloated.

Don't really care about the co-op portion. I played it a little while on W@W but that didn't last long and got boring. I much prefer the ever changing game play of on-line competition.
I'll be very happy that they focus on a seamless single player campaign and a robust on-line game.
