The Consumer Electronics Show is in full swing, and Sony has already made a big announcement regarding their ever-expanding PlayStation Network.
Two major brands, easily recognized by most mainstream consumers, are going to make their presence felt on the PSN. The first is EA Sports, as one of the world's largest publishers will launch the EA Sports Arena within PlayStation Home. It is scheduled to arrive this spring and will boast leaderboards, new multiplayer games, fresh trailers and previews, and all new content for your favorite EA Sports titles. The second is MTV, who will make a big splash in the PSN's video delivery service "with plans to bring content from a diverse collection of programming including MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, Spike and more." The initial lineup will include the likes of "The City," "South Park," "Spongebob Squarepants," and VH1's "Rock of Love Bus" with Bret Michaels. As of now, the video delivery service already holds "nearly 1,200 movies and more than 3,000 TV episodes," many of which available in brilliant high-definition. Said SCEA's Senior Vice-President of Marketing and PlayStation Network, Peter Dille:
We're thrilled to add content from MTV Networks to our line up, it's a perfect fit for the PlayStation demographic, one of the most coveted audiences in entertainment today. Combined with the superior technology of the PS3 and PSP, the PlayStation Networks video delivery service truly provides consumers the best and most comprehensive content on demand from an incredible line up of entertainment brands to enjoy at home or on-the-go."
Yes, between all these new additions to Home and the PSN, the Network is rapidly becoming a major selling point for the PlayStation 3, and unless we overestimate what each offers, we dare say the PSN is more robust and diverse than Xbox Live at this point. At the very least, they're darn close, and the PSN remains free…
wonder when the eu will get this???
Everyones wants Video Store outside the US. Why Sony isn't doing anything about it
We only read this and wish to have the ability to log in and watch some movies
WOOT south park on my ps3 = epic win. and even i enjoy spongebob sometimes =D lol this is awsome =D wonder if they're in hd?
SPONGEBOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NHL '09 Baby!
I have been hoping that EA would do something like this since being in Home
Can't stand MTV myself but it's definitely a coup for Sony to get their junk. I'm thinkin at the very least PSN IS more diverse at this point as Benstradamus said.
lol, I was like, "Who? Oh."
some great announcements for HoMe and the PS3…
why cant they put some of those MTV and Spongebob inside HOME
WEEE! Americans.. here you go – more video content for your ps3 and brand new areas in home..
EUROPEANS?? aahm.. ahm.. no comment on that one..
I'm tired of being overlooked as european citizen..
Yes-red bull space at the SAME time! lol
there is a red bull space in the eu home?
You'll get the movie store when we get Play TV.
The redbull space is one of the first things we've got on the same time.. at least it feels like that.. :-S
#Blaiyan – When do we get the videostore then? Because i've been waiting for that one!!
I wish I knew.
Viva la Bam?
Ummm…what? What was that, you say? PSN surpasses XBox Live?
Listen!
*hand to ear*
Do you hear it? THE WINDS OF CHANGE!!! 😀
Now if only they could do something about the Canadian law so that we can legally watch them. No videos yet on Canadian PSN…boo.
Now for the podcasts in home
As a Englishman I always wonder why "the special relationship" we share wuith the US(which means we blindly back whichever daft presidential whim war of the day with full military support)doesn't extend to game releases or anything to do with Sony.
SCEE are a joke considering how well supported th PS3 has been in europe compared to virtually everywhere else(and particularly the US)in the world. I think they said we'll get the vid services in the sutumn of this year but I won't hold my breath. Come on SCEE all we ask is not to be left behind by over a year on 90% of services you announce for the US and Japan. Getting the Killzone2 demo on better terms and the game a couple of days earlier doesn't help either-we just want everyone to be treated the same-or as near as can be.
As for the announcements-great. The more home content the better and the same goes for the viseo store. hopefully we'll see many more opublishers spaces on Home as well.
Meh…it's nice to see Sony adding some content to Home, but this isnt too interesting to me. Just more ways to be be subjected to ads. I want to see more game partying capabilities…
Sony gives the shaft to the EU folks yet again… 🙁
Its about time, I wish PSN adds ESPN, now that would stop me from watching TV!
ESPNPSN
NOOOOOOO i f**king MTV they killed rock n roll… ba*tards
Saw the trailer, looks awesome
They only need to introduce the video stuff for Canada!! (cough**neverhappen**cough)
Does Japan even have the video service? I thought it was just US.
We in EU always get things last, or not at all.
Just as an example: Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories? Nope, not on Sonys watch.
MTV is the biggest waste of television space ever. Then again, all television is garbage.
Totally agree with the first sentence Beezledrop.
Just why anyone would or could possibly watch MTV's garbage is beyond me..I dont mind music videos but these constant spoilt good looking teens and their 'problems'??COME ON!! I just hope we get something fun to do in home soon.
