The Wii is certainly getting some goodly attention here in the U.S., and mega-game retailer GameStop/EB is banking on that interest to sell their latest online product: the Nintendo Wii preorder bundle. According to an e-mail sent to customers, Thursday marks the start of the online offer.
"This Thursday evening (CST), November 9, your opportunity to get in on the excitement arrives when the Wii Bundle becomes available for purchase online at GameStop.com," reads the e-mail. "You'll get the best games, accessories, and more in one convenient package delivered right to your door–all for under $699 plus tax and handling."
Now, we have to remember that the system on its own only costs $250, and even that comes with the Wiimote, Nunchuk controller, power and AV cords, sensor bar, stands and Wii Sports. So…we're all on pins and needles trying to figure out exactly what constitues the other $449 in that new Wii bundle. And it doesn't help that GameStop/EB is apparently just as clueless as we are, considering they don't have the details on the bundle just yet.
There are a few other small caveats, too- that Wii bundle is the one and only option if you want to preorder the system online. Last year's Xbox 360 had two choices, just as a comparison. And then you've got the list of disclaimers we're all quite familiar with by now:
"Quantities are extremely limited and there will be a limit of 1 Wii bundle per household, limited to US delivery only," read GameStop's e-mail. "Ordering a bundle does not guarantee shipment at launch and orders will be shipped on a first-come, first-serve basis. The bundle will be removed from the site as soon as we have reached our expected quota."
But if you're not interested in that pricey Wii bundle, your only other option from that retailer will be the Xbox 360. As of now, there are no plans for any PS3 preorders, although we shouldn't rule out the possibility. GameStop/EB already held their in-store preorders for the PS3 on October 10, and those were all gone in the first few hours.
Obviously, the next bit of big news is…what the heck is in that Wii bundle? Looks like we'll have to wait until Thursday to find out.
