It's one thing to get the media behind a game and promote it, but it's quite another when another developer praises the production's quality.
In a recent NeoGAF post, Insomniac community manager JStevenson said he loved Killzone 2 – just beat it, in fact – and to echo just about every source's sentiments: yes, "it is indeed awesome." Here's the full post-
"I did indeed beat KZ2 tonight and it is indeed awesome. I know there will be plenty of comments, opinions, accolades and nitpicks, but for me, the game was fun. My favorite part of the game was when you get this certain weapon. I really really love it and I got the trophy for oh so fast – wish it was available more.
Anyways — major props to all the folks at GG."
We're not quite sure which weapon he's talking about, but we can find out within the next few weeks. Thing is, certain publications have already received the final build of the game, and although there's a strict embargo on reviews (talk about frustrating), we…ah…might know what Stevenson is talking about. Anywho, another interesting tidbit to consider is that Insomniac and Sony's Santa Monica studio helped Guerilla create the AI algorithms for KZ2. That's good news because, if you've already forgotten, Insomniac is responsible for some awesome games themselves (the recent Resistance 2 included), and Santa Monica is hard at work on God of War III .
Yep, the Killzone 2 hype continues to build, but it's not just journalists and Guerilla who are telling you this now; it's other developers, too. You should pay attention…

This game looks awesome… I'm jealous of all you people that already had a chance to play KZ2… want the game so bad… but meanwhile I'll be playing FO3
i didnt think it was possible for a game to be hyped more then Halo, but i think we've found a winner.
i dont see KZ 2 ads everywhere i go so halo still wins (Blame Sony's marketing)
lol, until you see the Helghast on cans of Mountain Dew, I think the hype/marketing crown still belongs to MS's baby.
i would love to see that. and that halo dew was great, it tasted like skittles.
Killzone 2, u betta believe, THE HYPE IS REAL!!!!
Comment seems more like a reflection of what R2 was like.

This coming from the same studio that made the very average campaign in R2 🙂
I kid, I kid…
I have no doubt it will be awesome, but I have doubts that it will redefine anything.
I'll be there on day one to find out.
the weapon he could be talking about is the rocket launcher or the grenade launcher. those weapons are game changers. But, I personally loved that high rapid-fire machine gun. It was like a mini-gun with a triangular face! That gun was so GANGSTA!
lol… I miss that beta 🙁
I think the weapon that he is talking about is the mech which you can control – there is a trophy for squashing 25 Helgahst with it
Edit: The Mech is the one at the very end of the Helgahn Trailer

those bots and flying mechs are sooooo cool. Love the concept.
instead of looking for a halo killer, maybe from march we would be looking for a killzone killer.
It very well could be that Killzone could become the gold standard.
At any rate, I have high hopes for this game. In the past, all of the PS3 games Sony has flexed its hype muscle for have surpassed my expectations. (First with MGS4, and most recently with LittleBigPlanet.) I expect no less from K2.
JStevenson is right though about the nitpicking. It won't be universally well recieved, we are knee deep in Fanboyism this generation and the Microsoft alliance seems to be in denial when one of our flags waves brilliantly over head. Oh well.
((Prepares to enjoy K2, ignorant to the rants on the internet battlegrounds))

Come on, Ben. Spill the beans. You're giving it a 10, aren't you?!!?
Haha Ben a 10, he's stated before he never ever gives a 10.
Wait doesn't Arnold have the demo or the game already or was that the Beta he got but can't review it or say anything about it ?
Hmmmm…well, Ben gave GTA4 a 9.9, and the KZ2 beta was better than GTA4 in all categories (graphics, gameplay, sound, control, replay value, and online gameplay). Okay, maybe not sound…but, maybe. And the only thing that could hurt the control score is the duck and zoom controls. So, I think either KZ2 will get a 10, or PSXE will have to add a digit to their scoring system and give it a 9.99. 😀
That was Arnold who gave MGS4 a 10.
Troy, Ben gave K2 an 11. lol

I can't take all this positive feedback and hype man. I know this game is going destroy FPS. Let KZ2 put the last nail in halo's coffin.
I'm personally skeptical of KZ2 being a Halo killer. Although they're both shooters, they have fundamental differences.
Killzone 2 will be a tactical shooter, much like Call of Duty 4/World at War. You'll have to think more than just run and gun. Halo is a run-and-gun shooter; you grab a gun and run at your enemies as fast as you can since it takes more than 2 bullets to kill you.
Also, Halo is centered around the melee attack. I'll bet some people on Live have more beat down kills than they do kills with a gun. Killzone 2's melee attack isn't like that–partially because it's not as powerful (I think) and because it's harder to run up on an enemy like that.
Bottom line, people who want mindless shooting games where you just grab and shoot will still prefer Halo. People looking for a more tactical experience will (hopefully) now be looking to KZ2.
@ Phoelix COD4 and COD:W@W tactical shooters? I have to disagree with that. Socom is a tactical shooters. COD series are pretty much like Halo run-and-shoot nothing less nothing more
@ Phoelix and any other skeptics
THE HYPE IS REAL!!!

Pheolix, that only makes it better. To the other guy. In COD4, you got a hell of a lot more out of the game by using tactics regardless which weapon. KZ2 will be a bit more tactical as it uses a cover system thats identical to Rainbow 6s too.
KZ2 looks awesome.
That's right. I'm the one with the final game. Read the hands on preview from last month for details. The review will arrive Feb 2nd.
So, that means you'll be doing the review? Give us a hint? You don't have to give us the whole score. Just the number that comes before the decimal point. 🙂
I knew it lol
Very true Pheolix although I do believe that in Killzone 2 the knife attacks are a one trick pony and melees with a gun take like two licks to get the job done.
Man, I can't wait to see the new multiplayer boards. The three from the beta were so much fun. Hell, I still can't believe the game I played was just a beta. The amount of fun I had, and the time I spent playing was easily worth 60 bucks just for that much. I just can't imagine what the full-blown game will be like. Any way you slice it, this game is a must have.
Yea…*sighs*…it was.
Too bad we gotta start over. I seemed like it took me forever to get promoted.
i wish i could get that demo. i cant wait to get my hands on this game.
I loved killzone the atmosphere is soo gory. way better than Gears for me.
Can't wait
KZ 2 has custom soundtracks?!!! This game just keeps getting better and better
53 dasy until shes releases…And the WHOLE PS3 community sits and waits..
Thats great to hear about the AI. I find the AI in R2 is very well done.
I liked the beta so much I went out and bought my self a bigger TV and a surround sound. can't wait this is a first day buy for me.
psn id. ltefoe
you people need to come down to earth or something i mean man its just a video game
Jove fails
Alright Killzone 2 at the beginning was receiving a huge amount of hype because of it's overwhelming graphics and it's intense action. The first trailer/teaser was shown on E3 06.
We received news later that it was all pre-rendered. Well that somewhat stopped the hype, but the hype started reviving at E3 07 when Phil Harrison said out loud "Everything you're about to see…is in real-time" BAM!!! Helghast faces in every single screen at the place. You're immediately thrown in the action, you see a guy in flames, you see thunder hit the environment, you see bullets gazing past you, you see your allies being taken down as they come to land, and then you see 2 people trying to make a plan – that's where you come in.
You try to blast through the door with your ally and rip the Helghast coming on your right with your bullets. It continues…but from all that…they hype of Killzone 2 revived.
Then in E3 08 there was a playable demonstration of Killzone 2 shown to the folks at IGN. Some of us unfortunately couldn't even watch of have a good time because of the announcement that day about FFXIII going multiplatform. But I WAS PAYING ATTENTION – and I heard that there will be some destructible environments. The graphics looked 2x better than what I saw from before.
Now…it all comes down to February 27, 2009. With all this hype getting almost as big as the one we had for MGS 4. WILL IT DELIVER?!?! IMO nothing will ever deliver as much as MGS 4 did, but WILL KZ2 deliver the right amount or possibly even more than what we'll expect?? Or will KZ2 turn out to be just an ok kind of game…like a 7.5 rating or something like that??
About 1-2 weeks ago, IGN did a preview of the first couple of missions of KZ2. They of course thought the graphics look amazing. Some of us here think the graphics look amazing but we're looking at it through a medium. Say Youtube. Youtube…the site that completely deteriorates the quality of a video??? YES that's the one. So on an LCD HDTV at 1080p – how do you think Killzone 2 will look. Some of you might already know from the online multiplayer beta – but that's still not the completed version. I have know question in my mind that KZ2 will absolutely be graphically impressive.
What about gameplay, will that deliver??? Will there be intense moments like the one shown in the E3 06 trailer??? Will the be moments were you feel as if you would almost fall off your seat when you're hit by a grenade in KZ2??? In other words will you be surprised by what KZ2 will have to offer??? Well…haha we'll all see 02/27/09 won't we?? This day will mark the beginning of PS3's 2009 year. Will it start off at a rocky start…or one solid dominating start???
We will all see…so what I strongly suggest is to not get it on the first day unless you read a review from somewhere. Go check on various sources not just Playstation dedicated ones. GO ON EGM (1UP), IGN, Gamespot, Eurogamer (although they sucked during MGS4), Famitsu, GameTrailers, Game Informer, and maybe G4TV.
This game is going to be beyond …. Watch the sales and the reviews hit.
Btw, any effing reviewer who gives this game less than 100% rating is a PS3 hater or jealous of it. The game is THAT freaking good. I played the BETA and it was jaw-dropping from action, camera motion, graphics, guns, weapons, classes, destrucbable enviorements, lightning, colors, CG real-time, and the MANY MANY features the game has.
you people need to come down to earth or something i mean man its just a video game
shut up jove.
@ karneli lll:
How do you know it will have custom soundtracks? source please? If its true then I'm now offically ultrahyped.
I'mma play young jeezy and Plies while I blast some helghast scum. Rap + shooters = perfection
Even X-play won't be able to rag on this game.
I'm ready to spill the blood of the Helghans!! Who's with me!!!!?
