Ben-DutkaIt was easily one of the most under-appreciated titles in 2008 – it just recently won our "Most Overlooked" Award – so perhaps this is the boost it needs to garner a little more recognition.
According to RPGFan, Sega is scheduling a budget re-release of Valkyria Chronicles for Japan. It will be on store shelves on March 5 and include the Edie Nelson mission, which is currently only available via download on the Japanese PlayStation Store. And instead of the standard sticker price, it will boast a much more agreeable and appealing price of 3,990 yen, or a little under $44 U.S. Now, there's no mention of such a re-release heading to North America, but boy, it could really benefit from such a move. More and more people are starting to think they may have missed something in VC, and a cheaper version in March could serve to increase that poor overall sales number. Chronicles did release right around the time when so many huge blockbusters dropped in 2008, so it's understandable that it got lost in the shuffle, and a budget re-release would make the game appear as new to a whole lot of gamers. We say, give it to us in April some time, after the Killzone 2 , Street Fighter IV , and Resident Evil 5 mania has died down just a bit. Just don't drop it too close to RE5…that would be another mistake.
We'll let you know if we hear anything about Valkyria Chronicles coming back to North America with a lower price tag, and if you're one of the few who have already played it, tell everyone – once again – how great it is!
