Harrison Believes Activision Was Wrong To Pass On Ghostbusters

When Activision/Blizzard absorbed Vivendi, they were forced to make a few tough decisions. In so doing, they cut loose a few titles that were scheduled to be published by Vivendi, including Brutal Legend and Ghostbusters: The Video Game .

While Tim Schafer's project just recently found a home with EA, Atari snapped up Terminal Reality's Ghostbusters , and president Phil Harrison couldn't be happier with the acquisition. In fact, the former Sony executive actually called out Activision/Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick for opting to pass on the promising title, which – if we're remembering Harrison's laid-back temperament correctly – seems somewhat out-of-character. But we like this side of Harrison. Here's his quote to MCV, in regards to Kotick saying he didn't want the game because it "didn't offer enough long-term revenue potential."

"What Bobby, perhaps unhelpfully said, was that those games were franchises which wouldnt make $100m of revenue and generate sequels. If thats his benchmark, then fine and wed love to aspire to the same benchmarks. But you know what? I would love to turn Ghostbusters into a $100m franchise, just to prove him wrong."

You prove him wrong, Harrison! If you haven't seen much of the game in question, check out the latest Atari Live Trailer , which is both comical and promising. We have high hopes that Ghostbusters will be a worthy title; next year is the 25th anniversary of the classic movie, and we'd hate to see its good name dragged through the mud. They've got all the original guys involved, so that's a good sign, right? Stay tuned for more as we scrounge up extra info and details.
