The more we hear about God of War III – even if it isn't official – the more excited we become. Killzone 2 has already blown us away and we're thoroughly convinced it'll be a legitimate Game of the Year 2009 contender, but will another PlayStation 3 exclusive actually top Guerilla's unbelievable project?
A little while back, David Jaffe caught a glimpse of GoWIII in action during a visit to Sony, and he came back rantin' and ravin' as Jaffe tends to do. After a variety of curse-laced exclamations (starting with, "HOLY HOLY HOLY FU**ING SH**!!!"), he said it was the best-looking title he'd ever seen. Well, the new set of details for the game also claims GoWIII will set a new visual benchmark for the industry. The supposed inside info comes from the VG Tilt blog, and the tipster said "the detail is crafted with highest of care and the animations sell the experience like nothing you've ever seen." He also confirmed the final product will natively support 1080p resolution and run at a full 60 frames per second. Any early footage you see now isn't quite to this level yet, though, so keep that in mind whenever you stumble across a teaser trailer.
As for other little details that may or may not be true, there is the possibility that someone else may be stealing away some of Kratos' thunder; there might be another playable character in the game. We have no idea who it might be, but you may see him in the teaser that shows up at the Video Game Awards on Spike this week. As for the gameplay, they will implement a few tweaks: the camera will be closer, everything is "bigger," and there are "three new mechanics" for the gameplay engine that will "drastically alter" the experience depending on how you play. There's also going to be an online mode, with options including Gladiator and Co-Op mode, and this sounds like the most plausible of the rumored information. Lastly, we can expect a playable demo to show up on the PSN some time in the coming months. Now if this is true, we'll start drooling right now .
Anyway, none of this is confirmed, but we have to admit- most of it sounds reasonable and even expected in some cases. The only concern we have is that closer camera; if it's too close, it's gonna annoy the crap out of us. But we have complete faith in the SCEA Santa Monica team, so we'll just let 'em do what they're gonna do.
