Some PS3 Launch Titles Require Firmware Update

According to recent PS3 testing at IGN , it appears that several launch PS3 titles are going to require a firmware update, which should sound familiar to PSP owners.

The first game that needed the update was Madden NFL 07 ; it required the firmware update "v1.02" before play could begin. However, this doesn't appear to be the case with all EA games, as Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 worked just fine without any necessary update.

And apparently, it doesn't end there. They found three more games that will require v1.02: Genji: Days of the Blade , Ridge Racer 7 , and Resistance: Fall of Man will also require the newest firmware version before you can dive into the next-gen goodness. PSP owners should recognize the message you'll receive prompting you to upgrade, and thankfully, v1.02 ships right on the game discs, so you won't have to download anything. However, if you wish to be proactive, you can always jump online and take care of things before playing the games.

Sony has confirmed that v1.02 is the most recent version, but we're not sure yet which firmware edition will ship with the PS3.
