Whether this is a glimpse into the bizarre and surreal future of gaming, or whether it's just typical over-the-top Japanese fare, we can't decide. We can only describe it, and then step back and wonder to ourselves, "…what the hell ?"
What you're looking at here is a kinda like the Wii-mote; it goes with a video game, and it…uh…does stuff, but it's also hands-free. It's known as the SOM, designed by game developer Overflow (you'll laugh at that in a second), and it's a "dream device" that goes with their erotic game, Cross Days . According to Kotaku, the game's official website says the SOM "moves in real time to corresponding on-screen motions during 'climax scenes.'" The final quote, which really had us almost on the floor, is: "Install SOM and experience a next-gen reality!" And oh, it doesn't end there. These guys have more "devices" for the electronic pleasure seekers, and they're featured over at the aforementioned site. The SOM is for men, but they've got one for the ladies, too, which…er…well, you can guess what it might look like. There's nothing explicit on the home page, but we're warning you that this isn't a site to visit when at work or in front of shocked-out-of-their-shoes parents. So visit at your own risk .
The manufacturer notes that it uses a material called "septon" in these little toys, which is used in some medical devices. Well, whatever, but if this is the future of interactive gaming, we don't know whether we should laugh or cry. We can't talk about this anymore; just draw your own conclusions. Sheesh.
