RE5 Demo Hitting Japan Next Week?

Update: Thanks to a reader, we have learned of an update at ShackNews, which says that Capcom does plan to release this demo in North America.  Unfortunately, they wouldn't give a date, but the confirmation is enough for now.

Original Story:

Well, if you were one of the ambitious ones to set up a Japanese account for your PlayStation 3, you may get another chance to benefit this week.

We know Resident Evil 5 isn't scheduled to arrive until March of next year, but we've been wondering about a playable demo for 2008. And now, according to NextGen News, Famitsu has revealed that Capcom will release just such a demo on December 5, and it will even feature the much-publicized co-op gameplay. Obviously, given the source, we have to assume that if it's true, the demo will only come to the Japanese Store, which is why North American survival/horror fans will be very unhappy. Then again, Capcom may release the demo in other territories as well, only at a later date. This is one publisher who has been pretty good about releasing media and demos for new titles so far this generation – it's one of the reasons they have their very own section on the PlayStation Store – so we should see the demo at some point. However, December 5 remains up in the air, and if anything, it will debut in Japan first. Maybe you should just take a few days and visit those relatives of yours that live in the Land of the Rising Sun; they'll be glad to see you!

It may seem a little early for a demo, but we're not about to question good news, even if it is unconfirmed rumor. Nah, we only question the bad news.
