Codemasters Confirms Colin McRae: DiRT 2 For Next Year

There's no better way to honor lost lives than to pay tribute to their good name for all future generations to enjoy.

Although we lost a great champion when Colin McRae passed away last year in a helicopter crash, Codemasters plans to continue on with the video game saga that carries his name. During an IGN UK interview, the publisher confirmed that Colin McRae: DiRT 2 is currently in development and is due out some time next year for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Executive producer Gaven Raeburn said that fans of the original DiRT can expect "more physical modeling of the environment, improved lighting and shadowing, and higher texture detail." As for what Codemasters thinks about using McRae's name on another video game-

"His ventures into events such as the X-Games, Dakar Rally and the Race of Champions have inspired us to look at events covering the extremes of off-road motorsport. DiRT 2 will be a great tribute, and we'll be revealing more about this over the coming months."

We expect to hear more about this highly anticipated sequel over the next few months, and if it really is bigger and better than than the original, it ought to be very worthwhile for every racing fan out there. It seems that with each passing year, the once-niche off-road racing genre gets more and more popular.
