With the Killzone 2 open beta in full swing – in Europe, at least – more and more people are beginning to offer new details and information gleaned from their experience with the test. So far, a lot of it is interesting and all of it seems to be overwhelmingly positive.
Firstly, what we're hearing from testers is that Killzone 2 offers a sense of "heavy realism," of sorts. In other words, rather than just kinda floating around the screen with this disembodied hand holding a gun, you actually feel like a futuristic soldier clad in extraordinarily heavy armor. This doesn't mean you won't be clumping around like a mech, though; the controls and overall gameplay mechanic reportedly work extremely well. Another interesting little tidbit popped up today, which talks about the role of the Sixaxis motion controls when attempting to snipe. See, sniping requires a steady hand, so if you can't manage to keep the controller perfectly still, your scope will be shifting about. We assume you can turn off the motion sensing, though, in case you don't like this idea. Lastly, everyone continues to comment on just how pretty and atmospheric the game is; the backdrops and combat effects are apparently second-to-none, which ought to make the graphic hounds happy.
All in all, Killzone 2 is shaping up quite nicely, and if we ever land a spot in the beta, we'll bring you our impressions as well. We don't particularly like to rely on second-hand information for such a huge title, but it's okay for now. For now , Guerilla. We want in!
