Ben-DutkaIn the past few weeks, we've seen a lot of developers (and Sony themselves, of course) weigh in on the current state and future potential of the PlayStation 3. The latest, according to a recent Gamasutra interview, is from Team Ninja.
Now, it seems like with every passing generation, Team Ninja just wants to jump on board with the most powerful console on the market. This is why they fixated on the original Xbox last generation, and why they have kind words for the PS3 this generation. Here's a little of what Team Ninja's Hitoshi Hasegawa and Yosuke Hayashi had to say; the first is in reply to a question about the future of Sony's machine:
"For the PlayStation 3, we do not believe that we've seen the fullest of its potential from any standpoint: from a developer standpoint, and also a consumer standpoint — and just in products in general. The developers have been releasing products, but there is a bigger potential. There is greater potential, and we see that possibility the most in the PlayStation 3. It's going to be up to us developers and Sony to make sure that that does happen."
Now, a lot has been made of the extraordinarily complex development tools, but again, Team Ninja is typically up to the challenge. Furthermore, Hayashi said they're "very satisfied" with the help they've received from Sony in the realm of Dev Tool assistance, so that's good news. He also believes that most developers "would agree that the PlayStation 3 is the most powerful system out there," and then, he was presented with a question that has been popular as of late, which revolves around the idea of better PS3 exclusives in the future, just because of its power. His response:
"I agree that if we work exclusively with one console that the final product will be a better game than if we were to create it simultaneously for multiple platforms. Each system has its own philosophy behind it, so it's a matter if you can concentrate and focus 100 percent to adapt to that, or if you're going to have to balance that out with other titles."
