Dead Space Headed To Big Screen, Sequel Confirmed

These days, if a game turns out to be popular, the developer/publisher is often quick to tell everyone that a sequel is in the works. Given the widespread popularity and appeal of Dead Space , you had to guess this was coming.

According to Variety, general manager for the game, Glenn Schofield, hinted that Dead Space 2 is definitely on the way when he spoke about the possibility of a big screen adaptation. Yeah, the game may seem perfectly suited for movies, but given Hollywood’s track record with video game films, we’d almost rather they didn’t try this time. That’s not stopping EA, though, who didn’t get to their position by ignoring huge money-making opportunities. Said Schofield:

“We’re talking with movie studios right now. We have been all along. The difference with this is we need to go in and say, ‘This is not a $10 million movie.’ Sure somebody could make it, but that’s not what we are looking for. It’s an expensive movie. By doing this now, we could have a movie that bridges the gap between the two games.”

The “two games” part all but confirms the sequel, and now, it’s only a matter of time before someone ponies up the cash to make the movie, right? In writing this story, we can say we’re very happy to hear about a sequel – it’s guaranteed to kick ass – but we’re just plain bored with the announcement of a movie idea. Yeah, whatever. How can we not believe that Hollywood will butcher another awesome game? We’re almost positive they will, regardless of how much money gets dumped into the project, and given that, we’re far more interested in hearing details on the second Dead Space . Give us that , EA. It’s what the gamers want, we promise.
