There was quite the dramatic uproar when the December cover of EGM got leaked online, portraying a message in the upper right that read, "Metal Gear Solid 4 On Xbox 360?" Well, things are a little more clear now.
According to Joystiq , an ex-1Up employee was quoted as saying, "It's simply a rumor that Konami higher-ups are pressuring Kojima Productions to consider making MGS4 a multiplatform game because production costs on the game are unsurprisingly high and only getting higher … Whatever the case, I highly doubt it's going to happen so quit building yourself a disappointing kiloton bomb."
Konami had this to say in response to the EGM-oriented rumor:
"Metal Gear 4 is a PS3 title."
As of right now, the headline on EGM's cover doesn't appear to have any real foundation; they may have just tossed it up there to generate higher sales due to…well, this kind of drama. Besides, outside of the new Halo 3 details – many of which have already been leaked – there isn't much in the next EGM that's going to prompt a magazine rack blitz.
But now that the rumor is out, we're allowed a wee bit of speculation, are we not? Konami may very well be considering a move to multiplatform, coming to the conclusion that exclusivity isn't quite as important as more money. But at this point, the official word certainly doesn't make any mention of MGS 4 coming to anything but the PS3.
