Treyarch On World At War: “The Game Will Speak For Itself”

Last we checked, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was the most popular Xbox Live game on the planet, and certainly one of the most popular on the PlayStation Network. This isn't much of a surprise, considering the awesome intensity of that game's online multiplayer, but once again, Treyarch is confident they can compete this year with Call of Duty: World at War .

According to a recent interview with Videogamer.com, World at War senior producer Noah Heller has said the game "feels much better than any Call of Duty I've had a chance to play." We'll have to assume that includes CoD4, but Treyarch's effort, scheduled to arrive on November 14, could be a worthy competitor to CoD4. Ever since it was announced that the fifth series installment would return to World War II after Infinity Ward took it forward to modern day, the doubters have been everywhere. But Treyarch is well aware of the doubters, and they believe the new game will speak for itself. Heller said:

"Infinity Ward is a great studio and there's always going to be great studios. I think that the game will speak for itself and it will show people that we're a serious studio that people should take notice of. I'm not going to compare us to Infinity Ward but I will say that everyone who is involved in the CoD brand holds it to the highest degree and we feel like we're finally approaching the bar that we needed to approach, and that's a significant thing for us. So when it comes to the time for us to make our next game, or even when it comes time to make the next map packs or anything else connected to this game, we're going to know that that bar is set pretty high."

To their credit, Treyarch has been saying for months that they're not ignoring the quality bar set by CoD4. In fact, they realize they have to produce the best WWII shooter ever if they wish to live up to expectations, and you know…they may have done just that. Come mid-November, when the craze generated from the super huge titles has died down a bit, Call of Duty: World at War should be an excellent option.
