White Knight Details: Create-a-Combo, 4-Player Online Quests

If you've been following along, you knew Level 5's White Knight Chronicles would appear at TGS 2008, and so it has.

Sadly, they didn't provide us with a North American release date, but they did hand out a few never-before-heard details that ought to satisfy RPG fans. First of all – and we just think this is really cool – you'll actually be able to "create and name your own combinations" with the combo attack system. We're not sure how complex this system will be, but the very idea is music to our customizing-happy ears. Players will also be able to share the save data with others; money and items can be shared in both online and offline multiplayer modes. As for the online mode, some of you have asked if the developers will include a MMO-like feature, and the answer to that is apparently both "yes" and "no." We just learned that co-op gameplay will be offered over the PSN, but what we didn't know is that this will allow up to 16 players to hop into the Lobby, with 4 players each assigned to a Quest room. If you've played a MMO in the past, you know that cooperative quests are the backbone of the game, so we suppose this might qualify as "massively multiplayer online," even though it's not a huge seamless world where all players run around at the same time.

So that's the update for now, although we'd like to know if this game has reverted back to the original title of White Knight Story . We were under the impression that Level 5 had changed it to White Knight Chronicles earlier this year, but now, it seems as if half the sources say Story and the other half say Chronicles . Damnit, make up your mind!
